2 Intro 3 Floor trenches are the first choice for high-end rooms with floor-to-ceiling glazing. Conventional radiators often obstruct the view and draw unwanted attention to them. They clash with the architectural interior vision. 6 ADAC Headquarters, Munich, Germany In the ADAC headquarters in Munich, a bespoke version of the Katherm HK with energy-efficient EC tangential fans ensures quiet operation and energy savings. This trench version channels filtered, heated or cooled ambient air from the floor in line with current demand. Katherm HK and Katherm HK empty trenches were individually adapted to the polygonal external façade. Manufactured as customised units, the encased units harmoniously meet the architectural and design specification. They also help to heat the room up faster. In perfect symmetry.

7 Blending in unobtrusively. MobileLifeCampus, Wolfsburg, Germany The Volkswagen AG building features over 800 networked trench units. Heating and cooling is largely provided by 600 Katherm HK units. There are also an additional 200 Katherm units of other types. Some 1.2 kilometres of linear Optiline grilles produce a uniform appearance. Kampmann Tandem door air curtains also provide an optimum climate in the door areas.

SIDI Sport, Maser (Treviso), Italy 110 metres of Katherm HK trench units create perceptible interior comfort in the new building of the renowned sporting goods manufacturer. The trench units are synonymous with on-demand, individually adjustable heating or cooling from the floor. The Katherm HK configuration with EC tangential fans guarantees energy-savings of approximately 60 % over conventional fans. Empty trenches were connected to the active units to create a coherent interior architectural design. Natural aluminium anodised roll-up grilles and matching central covers enhance the sophisticated appearance.

Kampmann meets this demand with its Katherm QE, the trench heater with EC tangential fan-assisted convection and electric heating coil. No water connection is needed. High heat outputs with low noise levels are guaranteed. The Katherm QK is whisper-quiet. It is also available in 120 versions. It comes in non-standard lengths, with curved trench, mitres, cut-outs for columns or angles. Its ultra-long EC fan covers the entire heating range, from full space heating to cold air screening. Air conditioning systems are constantly evolving at Kampmann, which has enabled us to repeatedly reduce the dimensions of our Katherm HK. The Katherm HK is now 30 mm shallower and 50 mm slimmer than its predecessor without compromising on output (measured in accordance with EN 16430). Thanks to redesigned components, it now delivers optimised air flow for higher outputs. The Katherm HK is the trench unit that also provides cooling. The Katherm QK nano is even more space-saving than the Katherm HK, only 70 mm in height and 165 mm in width. The Katherm QK nano is used wherever depth is restricted for underfloor solutions and the room volume needs to be used to the full. Schloss Elmau Retreat, Germany Katherm QK trench heaters quietly and quickly warm up the space. The EC motor-operated fan blows heated air up the cool window fronts before it is drawn into the room and heats it evenly and without draughts. Katherm HK also provide additional heating as well as cooling. The KaControl system links the trench units to the building management system. The air outlets on the Katherm units stylishly complete their appearance. Lacquered oak roll-up grilles were selected for the Retreat, which wonderfully enhance the rest of the interior.

10 18 Product Elbphilharmonie Product Elbphilharmonie 19 Katherm made-to-measure trenches for the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg Kampmann is known for finding solutions to even the most challenging applications. The Hamburg Elbphilharmonie, one of Europe s most exciting new-build projects, is a case in point. Kampmann special Katherm HK trench heating and cooling units were developed especially for this project. The units are used in rooms which musicians use to warm up their instruments. Very specific temperatures are subsequently required in these rooms. In addition, a large volume of air has to be fed into the rooms to ensure that they are correctly air conditioned. And of course the concentration of the musicians must not be disturbed by external noise! According to these key specifications for the project, the units had to be practically silent. The ultrasilent Katherm HK tipped the balance in favour of Kampmann when the order was awarded. The task was to develop low-noise trench heating that simultaneously delivers high outputs the maximum sound pressure level was 32 db(a). In terms of output data, the focus was particularly on the cooling output. As cooling requirements were constantly changing, between 2009 and 2013 numerous measurements of the non-standard trenches were taken in the Kampmann Research & Development Centre (FEC). The final measurements were taken in June 2013 for the heating and cooling outputs with particular focus on the latter. The standard Katherm HK has only a single row of fans. A non-standard model boasting a second row of fans enables operation at the lowest level, which results in high outputs coupled with a low sound pressure level. The Katherm HK units were finally delivered in two different versions in a special non-standard design, in a width of 300 mm (the standard trench is 40 mm wider) and a single row of tangential fans, and also in a width of 470 mm with two rows of tangential fans, all units in 19 different lengths.

17 32 In detail EN In detail EN EN New EN standard for trench heating / cooling 28 C Thermal outputs and cooling capacities finally comparable! Until now there has been no uniform standard for determining the performance of heating / cooling trenches. The EN valid as from December 2014 provides common standards which apply with immediate effect. The EN defines details for measuring performance data for heating / cooling trenches under real-life conditions and puts an end to uncertainties in the design and in comparing performance data of different manufacturers. Thermal outputs and cooling capacities The standard defines details for measuring performance data for heating / cooling trenches based on EN 442. Comparison of air flow patterns The diagram shows the major differences of the air flow of short-cut optimised and non short-cut optimised heating / cooling trenches in cooling mode. With the short-circuit optimised model the air at the façade rises significantly higher, blends and penetrates deeper into the room at a higher temperature. The result is a more even temperature distribution and higher comfort in the occupied zone. Heating / cooling trenches with a high short-cut percentage only provide part of the performance to the room. Performance data based on the entering air temperature are especially misleading as this can be significantly lower than the reference air temperature (room air temperature). 28 C 750 mm Three parts of EN specify the measurements. The reference air temperature is measured in the centre of the test booth at a distance of 2 m from the façade at a height of 0.75 m above FFL. The reference air temperature must not be mixed up with the entering air temperature into the coil which may deviate due to the inevitable short-cut between leaving air and entering air. The development and design of the Katherm HK have been optimised to minimise the short-cut as far as technically possible. All performance data refer to the reference air temperature measured at a distance of 2 m from the façade, the area in the room occupied by people. 17 C 26 C 2000 mm
