4 C O O L I N G S Y S T E M S Surface ing and heating The long-term prospects for our way of life depend on whether we succeed in reducing energy consumption and increasing the use of renewable energy sources. Heating and ing systems consume the majority of a building's energy. Up to 45% of a family's budget is used for the costs of energy consumption for this purpose. 5 Surface temperature C Advantages When using radiant heating, no fan is required, resulting in the following advantages: l energy saving l no draughts l no noise generation l no servicing l no additional space requirement l no supra-regional air exchange (contamination, dust allergies) too cold too warm Room temperature C Comfort perception Through the addition of internal (computers, people etc.) and external (sun etc.) heat loads, the room temperature becomes higher than the surface temperature of the walls. The state-of-the-art air conditioning technology has the task of ensuring an atmosphere that is perceived by the people working and living in the buildings/rooms as being comfortable and pleasant and NOT keeping buildings and room air at a specific temperature. In detail "Thermal comfort" has a significant influence on well-being and health. Heating l If the human body emits more heat than it can generate, a feeling of cold is created. l The lower the temperature of the components, the higher the room air needs to be heated up in order to attain well-being. l The higher the temperature of the surface components, the lower the air temperature can be held with the same comfort. Cooling l The same effect applies conversely to ing; the air temperature does not need to be ed down as much as with convection ing. 12 C O O L I N G S Y S T E M S Easy steps to the tight FiX push connection Only use trained assembly specialists! 1. Cut the FiX pipe to length at right angles with the WZ932 pipe cutter 2. Mark the insertion depth at the end of the pipe using the support sleeve (The insertion depth = the length of the support sleeve up to the flange) 3. Insert support sleeve completely into the end of the pipe, this will ensure that the O-ring is not damaged when being pushed onto the pipe, furthermore, the support sleeve prevents deformation of the pipe. 4. Slide the pipe in straight, as far as it will go into the push connection. The O- rings are lubricated, do NOT use any additional lubricant. A safe and tight connection is achieved if the marking described in Point 2 is still visible on the pipe at the end of the push-on cap. 5. Pull the pipe back slightly to ensure that the clamping ring and thus a correct axial connection has been activated. 12

13 Therefore, invest 5 seconds per pipe connection for your safety 3 sec.: Visual check of each pipe end for a surrounding bevel. This ensures: l The pipe is correctly calibrated l O-rings cannot be moved and damaged. l Pipes can be attached without particularly excessive force. 2 sec.: Visual check of the insertion depth. Marking on the pipe at the screw fitting This ensures: l The subsequent pressing or screw fitting creates the axial connection of the joint to an unlimited extent. l The mount is activated with push fittings, the axial connection is ensured. 0 sec.: Do not allow (wherever possible) any unnecessary time to pass between insertion and pressing/screw fitting. This ensures: l Pressing has not been forgotten l Screw fitting has not been forgotten. l With the push connections, the suitability for use is ensured by complete insertion. Check of the axial connection by pulling back the pipe ends. "inserted = tight"! 14 C O O L I N G S Y S T E M S Assembly instructions KELOX-WINDOX-U KWU - press connection Only use trained assembly specialists! 1.1 Easy steps for a tight KELOX KWU press connection 1. Cut to length Always at right angles - therefore straighten materials supplied in coils beforehand! 1.1 d16 25 with pipe cutter (WZ130) 1.2 d25 63 with pipe cutter (WZ935) 2. Calibrate and chamfer Always turn clockwise, both into and out of the pipe! 2.1 d16 32mm Click the universal handle onto the calibration mandrel (WZ915) and rotate clockwise as far as it will go. This achieves the following: Cutting angle corrected to 90 Inner pipe wall is calibrated Deburred on the outside Surrounding inner bevel at the end of the pipe with a depth of approx. 1 mm visual check! 2.2 d40 63mm Turn in the deburring tool (WZ913) clockwise as far as it will go. This results in: Inside of pipe exactly round Inner bevel at the end of the pipe with a depth of approx. 1mm visual check! 2.3 Slow-running (max. 500 rpm) drills or cordless screwdrivers can alternatively be used. Remove the handle for this The plastic/aluminium chips MUST be removed from the calibration tool/protective cage after each calibration process. 14

15 4. Pushing on the press fitting WITHOUT using excessive force Slide the moulded piece onto the KELOX pipe end. Important: Push the pipe in as far as it will go 4. Check for the correct insertion depth on the viewing windows of the press fittings! Make the press connection immediately after joining the pipe connection! 5. Pressing Fit the KELOX-conform pressing tool with the correctly sized KELOX pressing jaws (U-contour). Press the WINDOX KWU or KC fittings - position pressing jaws in the middle of the pressing sleeve and press. CORRECT! INCORRECT! 5.1 Additional check security "leak before pressed" does not replace the visual check. The design, in conjunction with the special profile geometry, allows the UNpressed fittings to be identified and localised with certainty during the pressure test. - simply press - done! 5.2 The pressing procedure is completed when the pressing jaws are completely closed. After pressing, open the pressing jaws again and lift the pressing tool off of the pressed part. The pressing procedure can only be performed once! 5.3 The same procedure applies if a manual pressing tool (WZ983) is used. For assembly corrections, the joints may be turned by up to one rotation after processing! 5. Unpressed joints are not tight on the basis of the design and can specifically pose a danger with an air pressure test if the pipe and fitting separate. The axial connection will only be created by pressing. Therefore, perform a visual check of ALL joints. 15

Calibrate and chamfer the entire circumference: Always turn clockwise, both into and out of the pipe! d16-32mm Click the universal handle onto the calibration mandrel (WZ915) and rotate clockwise as far as it will go. Alternatively, a slow running drill or power screwdriver can be used (max. 500 rpm). 3. The plastic/aluminium chips MUST be removed from the calibration tool/protective cage after each calibration process. This achieves the following: Cutting angle corrected to 90 Inner pipe wall is calibrated Deburred on the outside Surrounding inner bevel at the end of the pipe with a depth of approx. 1 mm visual check! Ensure that pipes that have already been joined to a fitting at one end do NOT turn when the pipe is being calibrated at the other end! 4. Sliding on the push fitting Push the fitting straight onto the calibrated pipe end, NOT at an angle, as far as it will go. 4.1 A protector ring that is intact prevents pipes that have NOT been calibrated from being pushed into the fitting! This achieves the following: Permanently watertight joint Axial connection made by the patented grab ring Check the insertion depth at the push fitting! For assembly corrections, the joints may be turned by up to one rotation after processing! After the pressure test has been completed and when the system is in operation it should NOT be possible to see the end of the pipe in the viewing window (page 10)! 17

18 C O O L I N G S Y S T E M S FiX KC3A The suspended ceiling The FiX KC3A ceiling heating and ing module for installation in suspended roof structures. The elements are suitable for use in new buildings, as well as for subsequent installation with renovations. Through the customised size adaptation, the modules can be used for all conventional ceiling structures. The use of heat-conducting baffles guarantees an optimum transfer of energy into the ceiling structure, so that even heat/cold distribution within the ceiling is guaranteed and maximum output is reached. 22 C O O L I N G S Y S T E M S Assembly instructions KC3A and KC4A Ceiling design: For the assembly of the FiX KC3A or KC4A elements, it is necessary to consult with the drywall builder. He should be integrated into the planning of the assembly procedure as early as possible. All installations in the suspended ceiling must be notified prior to the installation of the ingheating elements (light, fire alarm, sprinkler, ventilation etc.) The production of the ing-heating elements will be started after the approval of the reflected ceiling plan. ceiling slab 130 mm air space Support rail Panelling KC4A incl. insulation 333 C-profile General points that must be provided on site! l The sub-structure must be installed at a minimum distance of 13 cm to the ceiling. Please note that the modules must be connected according to the Tichelmann procedure. 1.1 It is recommended to insulate the connection lines, so that the necessary energy requirement of the KC4A or KC3A elements is ensured. 2. After the ceiling structure has been installed by the ceiling builder, (distance of the C-profiles 333mm), the KC3A or KC4A elements can be suspended in the grid. 2.1 Lift the module into its position and cut one side of the module into the C-profile. 3. Lift the other side of the module, slide the loose C-profile into the correct position below the hook of the element and allow the module to lower. 3.1 The KC4A module is now hanging between two C-profiles, the assembly is completed. 3.2 The KC3A module is affixed to the substructure by additionally locking the holding rail into the C-profile through a barbed hook. 4. In the factory, the KC4A modules will be produced with a maximum length of 5m and the KC3A modules with a maximum length of 3m. l With serial interconnection of KC3A or KC4A modules, the total d10 or d12 pipe length must not exceed 40m. l Connection lines in d16 or d20 to the KC3A or KC4A modules should be sized according to the output requirement and kept as short as possible. This ensures that the planned pressure loss is not exceeded. To obtain optimum hydraulic balancing, the pipe length deviation of the individual ing and heating circuits elements can be a maximum of 15%! l To connect small modules to a ing or heating circuit with long elements, smaller elements can be switched in series with one another. 24

28 Assembly instructions KC90B modules For the assembly of the FiX KC90B elements, it is necessary to consult with the construction company. This should be integrated into the planning of the assembly procedure as early as possible. All installations in the concrete ceiling must be notified prior to the installation of the ingheating elements (light, fire alarm, sprinkler, ventilation etc.) The production of the ing-heating elements will be started after the approval of the reflected ceiling plan. Positioning of the KC90B elements on the formwork on site. 1.1 Outlets and partition walls must be drawn onto the formwork on site, so that precise positioning of the individual elements can be ensured. 2. Affix the element to the formwork using stainless steel nails, so that the position of the individual elements is fixed. The tips of the nails are removed with pliers after the removal of the formwork. 3. Install the connection lines from the module to the formwork protector in a conduit and check the correct positioning of the protective caps on the pipe ends, so that the penetration of dirt into the pipe ends is prevented. 4. Mount the formwork protectors separately for each of the flow and return lines on the formwork (stainless steel nails). Insert the flow and return lines of the modules separately into the entire length of the formwork protectors. Ensure that the protective pipe is pushed cleanly into the formwork protector, so that no concrete can penetrate into the formwork protector. 29

34 Assembly instructions FiX KCL1: For the assembly of the fix KCLC1 modules, consultation is required with the construction company, as well as the subsequent trades (installer, drywall builder, electrician etc.). The professionals should be integrated into the planning of the assembly procedure as early as possible. All of the system parts and designs for mounting on the ceiling must be clarified in advance. 35 Assembly process FiX KCL1: Min. 2.5 m For smooth-running mounting of the modules, it is recommended to use an assembly team comprised of several people. 1. Bringing in the modules a sufficient passage width and height must be provided for this. It should be possible to bring these in using an extended forklift truck or two forklift trucks. 2. Measurement of the modules The measurement of the modules can take place individually, for connection lines on the same level as the modules, the space requirement must be planned in. For the measurement of the modules, a string line or laser measuring device should be used. 3. Correct positioning The individual modules are positioned at the planned location on the ceiling using a panel lifting device (lifting height is a minimum of room height) 4. Mounting the modules Depending on the type of ceiling, the modules are mounted using suitable mounting materials (e.g. nail gun nails, wall plugs and screws, self-tapping screws etc.). Mobile mounting frames are usually used for this purpose. 5. Pipework for the connection lines For optical reasons, the installation of the connection lines should take place in parallel with the modules, preferably using KELOX bars. In practice, the KM610 FB clamping rail has been well-proven as a mount for the connection lines on the underside of the ceiling. 35

36 FiX KC75W climate panel element for the wall FiX climate panel element, the wall heating and ing system for drywall, is comprised of 15 mm thick plasterboard with heating or ing pipes integrated in the factory. Simple assembly of the system panels on the drywall structures, the pipes lie on the back in omega-shaped, milled pipe ducts in the panel element. This set-up guarantees quick-reacting temperature control, the surface is ready for painting. 42 Regulation of the FiX systems Room temperature controllers offer the user the possibility of individually regulating the temperature of each room. l If commercially available room thermostats have dew point sensors input and these are compatible with the dew point sensor, they can be used for controlling FiX systems. l In this case, the KELIT KC562 dew point sensor is required, it must be used as an interface to the commercially available room thermostat of the KC560 dew point sentinel. (see pages 44 and 45) l The temperature perception is different with surface ing than with air conditioning or fan coil systems. l On many days, surface ing systems can be operated with a higher air temperature level than fan coil systems. l Therefore, energy savings can be achieve with at least the same or higher comfort level. Dew point control for the ing mode The dew point control is used in order to prevent the formation of condensation on the pipes and modules. A dew point sensor should basically be installed in every room where ing takes place. These sensors ensure that the ing surfaces are switched off if the dew point limit is exceeded. If the relative humidity reaches a critical point, the KC562 temperature sensor, in combination with the KC560 dew point sentinel, or KC594 climate controller, interrupts the power supply to the ing modules with an actuator. 43 Positioning of the dew point sensors The dew point sensors should be mounted in the est or dampest area of the room, as far as possible. This position is usually in the vicinity of the windows. KC4A / KC3A FiX ceiling ing and heating element With suspended ceilings, the dew point sensor is mounted onto the pipe with a cable tie and the ready-mounted double-sided adhesive tape, so that the sensor tips pierce the ceiling panels and can measure the humidity of the room. The ends of the sensor tips that protrude are closed and must be cut off after the paintwork is completed. KC90B FiX component activation near the surface With concrete ceilings, an electric socket must be installed in the formwork for assembly of the dew point sensor; a pipe of the KC90B module is installed through this. The KC562 dew point sensors are mounted onto the pipe in the same way as with KC4A. The ends of the sensor tips that protrude are closed and must be cut off after the electric socket is uncovered and the paintwork is completed. 44 Hydraulic connection diagrams for ing ceilings For the system to function properly, a detailed calculation of the building (ing loads, shade, insulation values, etc.) must be prepared during the planning phase by the developer, architect or building services planner. Furthermore, professional installation and adjustment of the system is essential. The temperature and dew point control takes place by the KC594 climate controller. 46 Filling the FiX systems: 1. Connect all circuits to the manifold 2. Create a water connection on the flow of the manifold; the return flow is connected to a drain. 3. Ensure that the flow and return flow valves of the circuit to be rinsed are opened completely. 4. Rinse the system with a maximum pressure of 6 bar; use a rinsing pump for this, if necessary, allow the water to circulate at maximum speed until air is no longer escaping from the return flow of the circuit. 5. Connect the rinsed circuit to the flow and return flow and proceed in the same way with the other circuits (Point 3 and 4) Use pressure measurement devices that allow a pressure change of 0.1 bar to be easily read off. The pressure measurement device should preferably be at the lowest position in the system. The result of the leak-tightness test, the testing pressure and testing time must be recorded in a test report. If there is a risk of frost, suitable measured must be taken, e.g. use of anti-freeze, air pressure testing or heating the building. If frost protection is no longer necessary for normal operation, drain the anti-freeze and rinse through the system, changing the water at least three times. If the pressure test is performed with air, it is recommended to carry this out in accordance with ÖNORM B Pressure test KE KELIT recommends testing ing and heating systems on the basis of ÖNORM EN After installation and prior to closing the brickwork slots, wall and ceiling openings, the ing and heating pipelines must be subjected to a pressure test. The ing and heating system must be filled completely with water and bled (protect from frost!). Examine the system for leaks with a water pressure test. The testing pressure must not be less than 4 bar and must not be higher than 6 bar. Remarks: l Temperature fluctuations can influence the testing pressure l Every pressure test is a snapshot of the actual state and cannot be a guarantee against installation errors. l After successful pressure testing, we recommend the preparation of a confirmed test log. 46

47 Pressure test log for ing and heating systems KE KELIT recommends performing the leak-tightness test on the basis of pressure test under ÖNORM EN Every pressure test is a snapshot of the actual state and cannot be a guarantee against installation errors. Attention! Prior to every pressure test, ensure that all points of the assembly instructions (page 12 to 17) have been conscientiously carried out. Pressure test Test the pipeline network with double operating pressure, however at least with 4 bar and up to a maximum of 6 bar, at every point in the system. Only use pressure measurement devices that allow a pressure change of 0.1 bar to be easily read off. The pressure measurement device should preferably be at the lowest position in the system. The temperature equalisation between ambient and filling water temperature must be taken into account after the testing pressure is generated. The testing pressure should be restored after the waiting time, if necessary. All containers, devices and fittings that are not suitable for the testing pressure should be disconnected from the system during the pressure test. The system is filled with filtered water and bled completely. During the test, a visual check of the pipe connectors and screw fittings must be performed. To identify damage to the pipe, testing pressure must be applied to the pipes while the concrete is being inserted. KE KELIT recommends a testing time of 1 hour Calculated testing pressure: Testing time... bar... Hr. During the testing time, NO loss of pressure was determined. 48 Important assembly and installation instructions 1. FiX ing systems are made of plastic and require careful handling in relation to shock, impact, nicks and kinks. 2. Store and transport FiX ing systems (modules) such that they are protected from moisture, dirt and damage. 3. Protect pipes, fittings and conducting parts of the FiX ing system from long-lasting, direct UV exposure. The external protective layer is stabilised against UV influences; however, the pipes must not be exposed to long-lasting, direct sunlight. The conventional storage and processing times are not affected by this. 4. Vitally important! Observe the processing instructions for the screw, press and push connections (page 8-17) l always cut pipes straight, at right angles to the pipe axis l pipe cutter d mm (!) l precisely calibrate KELOX pipe ends l mark the insertion depth for the FiX system using the support sleeve l insert the support sleeve d10 into the end of the pipe l Slide the fittings on completely, without damaging the O-rings l Do not forget pressing with the KELOX system. This is the only way to achieve an axial connection and a permanently tight joint l Push connection: pushed = tight! 5. Avoid using heat to bend pipes; never use open flames! Avoid kinks! Do not install pipes that are damaged or incorrect! 6. Subject each installation to a pressure test in accordance with the standard (page 46). Keep a log of the pressure test (page 47). 7. Water containing glycol for the frost protection is not a problem for FiX. Observe the application instructions of the suppliers. 8. To ensure the warranty services (warranty agreement with the Federal Guild), FiX system components must exclusively be used according to ÖNORM ENV

49 9. Switching/connecting the individual FiX ing elements in the Tichelmann system. (see pages 24 and 25) To obtain optimum hydraulic balancing, the pipe length deviation of the individual ing and heating circuits elements can be a maximum of 15%! 10. Every room with a ing surface should be fitted with a dew point sensor. As the dew point (see table page 42) is not a fixed temperature point, the dew point formation can be minimised by changing the relative humidity downwards. 11. Guideline values for spans of connection lines d16 u. d20 mm of cm. The specified mounting distances prevent waterfilled horizontally installed KELOX pipelines are effectively prevented from buckling. Alternatively, it is possible to apply the distribution line to the substructure of the drywall; insulated connection lines do not require any damping base. If pipes without insulation are used, a damping base is required between the sub-structure and the distribution lines. IN O X 12. Compliance with ÖNORM H Prevention of damage by corrosion and scale formation in closed warm-waterheating systems with operating temperatures of up to 100 C. 13. Use non-corrosive materials for mounting the KC90B modules (e.g. stainless steel nails). 14. Proper calculation, installation and adjustment of the ing and heating surface are required for a feeling comfortable living conditions. 15. Fault-free installation of the FiX system requires a minimum of tools. For your safety, we recommend using the original tools that have been tried and tested many times in practice and their regular servicing. 16.
