The regulator shall be installed only by qualified personnel in compliance with the regulations and standards in force. The regulator must not be installed or used in the installation with an ineffective protection system specified by the regulations and standards in force. The regulator with any mechanical damage must not be installed or used danger for health and life! Any repairs shall be made only by the manufacturer s service or an authorised service point. Any attempts to make repairs by unauthorised people cause a loss of rights arising out of the warranty. HOW TO USE THE MANUAL The manual contains the information for the installer, controller s user and service people. The user decides to what degree they want to get to know the device and which functions they want to use. Chapters that the user may skip (mainly for the installer and service people) are preceded with the symbol. Functions reserved only for the installer and service people that require the mode SERVICE to be started are preceded with the symbol. Sections requiring a special focus are marked with the symbol. References to other sections of the manual where a discussed function is described broadly are preceded with the symbol. Manual for RX910-FOX Page 1 of 28

2 INTENDED USE OF THE REGULATOR Regulators RX910-FOX are designed for a control of boiler rooms with a cascade of 2 or 3 low-temperature boilers with one or two-degree oil or gas burners. The cascade may be operated in one of four typical process systems. Each boiler has to be equipped with the regulator RX910-FOX. Regulators are connected with a communication link RS485. One of the regulators is the master regulator and the others are slave regulators. Each regulator, apart from burner and boiler s local hardware control, may control one central heating (CO) circuit with a mixer and one circuit of hot usable water (CWU) preparation. Moreover, regulators RX910-FOX enable cooperation of the cascade with the process heat (CT) circuits with the independent automatics. CONFIGURATION OF THE REGULATOR The regulator s configuration consists in setting the switches under the stopper in the upper right corner of the desk in relevant positions. The switch lever moved up means state ON (1). The switch lever moved down means state OFF (0). A position of switches may be changed by means of a small screwdriver or a ball pen. The table describes functions of specific switches: Switch Function Comments S1, S2, S3 Binary-coded unique number of MASTER regulator, the regulator for communication SLAVE1 regulator, purposes SLAVE2 regulator, S4, S5 Binary-coded number of a selected process circuit other settings forbidden. 00 system U0, 01 system U1, 10 - system U2, 11 system U3. 5 DESCRIPTION OF OPERATIONS Operating mode The regulator may operate in one of two modes: Zima (Winter) weather control in the CO circuit and CWU preparation, Lato (Summer) control of the CWU preparation. The mode may be selected manually or automatically. In the mode Zima (Winter) the CO circulating pump is switched on permanently. In the mode Lato (Summer) the pump is started everyday at 15:00 for 1 minute to avoid seizure. After switching off the pump the regulator opens and closes again the mixing valve of the CO circuit. It prevents aggregation of deposits and tarnish in the valve mechanisms. Protective switching on of the pumps and moving of the valve mixers outside the heating seasons assure correct operation of the devices in winter the biggest number of pump, servo-motor and valve failures are detected at the beginning of the heating season. More about the operating mode in section CLOCK AND MODE - Mode. Regulation in the CO circuit There is the weather regulation in the CO circuit the set water temperature in the CO installation is calculated based on a selected heating curve and active program of inside temperature changes. The curve determines dependencies between the outside temperature (Tzew) and temperature of water in the CO installation (Tco) assuring a maintenance of the inside temperature () at a level of 20 C. A shape of th e heating curve depends on a degree of wall insulation, window tightness, performance and area of heaters, rate of heating medium flow, etc. The below diagram shows a set of curves to be chosen: Tco[ C] Tzew[ C] Curves 0 to 3 are used for floor heating, curves of 4 to 15 for systems of heaters. The regulator enables week inside temperature programming in CO circuits. The week program of each circuit consists of a 24h-program for working weekdays (Monday-Friday), program Saturday and program Sunday. Manual for RX910-FOX Page 5 of 28

6 Each of 24h-programs may consist of two ranges with comfortable temperature (T.Kmf) intervened by economical temperature (T.Eko) ranges. The below diagram shows an example of a 24h-program: ( C) time of the day In the example T.Eko=16 C, T.Kmf=20 C. Apart from the week program, a program of constant temperature Ferie (Holiday) program - may be chosen for the CO circuit with a set temperature that does not depend on time. During the program Ferie, the set inside temperature equals T.Eko. If the set inside temperature (resulting from the regulation program) is lower or higher than 20 C, the required installation water temperature i s read out of a respectively moved curved: Tco[ C] Curve for w=28 C Basic Curve (w=20 C) Curve for w=8 C Tzew[ C] w[ C] More about a choice of the active heating curve and settings connected with the CO program in section CO settings and CO program. For regulation of the installation water temperature in the CO circuit the PI regulator was applied with the indexing output controlling the mixing valve servo motor. Regulation parameters (amplification Kp, integration time Ti and servo motor run time Tps) are available only in the service mode. If an inside temperature sensor is installed in the CO circuit, the regulator enables an automatic correction of the temperature in the CO installation depending on a result of a comparison of the inside temperature measured and set. The correction coefficient WspKorCO may have values from 0 to 9. With WspKorCO=0 the correction is not made, with WspKorCO=9 the correction has a high impact on a set installation water temperature in the CO circuit. Parameter Tcomax determines the maximum installation water temperature in the CO circuit. CO parameters: Kp, Ti, Tps, Tcomax and WspKorCo are available only in the service mode. 7 Regulation in the CWU circuit CWU regulation is performed by a CWU charging pump control with the set hysteresis. The set temperature of water in the container is taken from the active, week or constant temperature (Ferie) CWU program. The week CWU program is structured similarly as the week program for the CO circuit. During the operation of the program Ferie the set temperature in the CWU container is T.Eko. CWU preparation may take priority over CO regulation. It depends on the parameter PriorCW; however if the CWU circuit operating with the priority was assigned to the MASTER, the priority covers all CO circuits. The operation of the priority of the CWU circuit assigned to the SLAVE regulator is local, i.e. it affects only the CO circuit of the regulator. More about settings connected with CWU in sections CWU settings and Program CWU. When feeding the CWU container, the required feeding temperature is: TzadCWU+ TCW The parameter Tcw (excess of the feeding temperature over the set CWU temperature) is programmed. After reaching the set temperature in the container, the charging pump is switched off with a delay specified by parameter WybPomCW. The CWU regulation hysteresis is specified by parameter HisterCW. Parameters WybPomCW, Tcw and HisterCW are available only in the service mode. The CWU circulation pump is switched off in the periods when the economical temperature results from the CWU program. The CWU circulation pump works within the ranges with the comfortable temperature. Control of the boiler and boiler s hardware Each of cooperating regulators RX910-FOX, apart from functions connected with the regulation in the local CO and CWU circuit, controls devices connected with the boiler to which it is assigned, i.e.: work of one and two-degree burner, position of the boiler s cut-off valve (system U0 and U1), work of a local pre-mixing pump (system U1), work of boiler s pump (system U2 and U3), position of the return regulation valve (system U3). If the slave regulator receives commands of switching on and off the burner s degrees from the master regulator, the control of the other mentioned elements is autonomous. Parameters deciding about the boiler s operations: ZwlZal2st: delay in switching on the second degree of the burner, MinCzPrac: minimum time of the burner s operation, MinTPowr: minimum boiler s return temperature, WybPPodm: rundown of the premixing pump (refers to a local pump in system U1 or a premixing pump controlled by the MASTER regulator in system U0), ZwlZamKla: delay in closing the valve of the follow-up boiler after switching off the burner of the boiler in system U0 and U1, WybPomKot: rundown of the follow-up boiler pump in system U2 and U3, Kp: only in system U3 - parameter Kp of the PI regulator controlling the work of the return regulation three-way valve servo motor, Manual for RX910-FOX Page 7 of 28

8 Ti: only in system U3 - parameter Ti of the PI regulator controlling the work of the return regulation three-way valve servo motor, Tps: only in system U3 runtime of the return regulation three-way valve servo motor. The boiler s regulator limits the boiler s temperature to 92 C. Boiler cascade control The MASTER regulator receives by means of the communication link required feed temperatures, among others, from slave regulators. Based on the figures, taking into account requirements of own CO and CWU circuit and the required boiler s minimum return temperature to which it is assigned, it calculates the maximum being the set feed temperature. The set feeding temperature is limited up to 90 C. Depending on the demand for heat, MASTER commands switching on a relevant number of power degrees. A delay between switching on successive boilers of the cascade is the cascade s parameter (ZwlZalKot), similarly as the minimum time of the boiler s operation. Cascade s parameters set in the MASTER regulator decide about the cascade s operation: LiczbaKot: number of cascade s boilers (from 1 to 3), NrKotWiod: number of the leading boiler, AutZmKot: interval of the automatic change of the leading boiler (number of days between changes of the leading boiler), Kp: coefficient of the cascade s PI regulator amplification, Ti: integration time of the cascade s PI regulator, ZwlZalKot: delay in switching on another boiler of the cascade. Setting of the cascade operation parameters has an essential importance for the quality of regulation and economics of the cascade operation. The settings may be changed only by persons of relevant knowledge and experience. Change of the order of boilers The order of the Cascade s boilers may be changed automatically every set number of days according to the rule: leading boiler no. 1 (order of boilers 1-2-3), leading boiler no. 2 (order of boilers 2-3-1), leading boiler no. 3 (order of boilers 3-1-2), leading boiler no. 1 (order of boilers 1-2-3), etc. The cascade s parameter AutZmKot decides about the leading boiler change frequency. If the parameter AutZmKot=0, a change of the boiler order will not be made automatically. The order of boilers may be changed manually in the service mode. Return protection In the boiler s parameters of every cooperating regulator a minimum return temperature is defined. The regulator s operation within a scope of the return protection depends on a selected process system. In the system U0 the MASTER regulator measures the temperature of water returning to the boilers in points Tp and Tpi. If the temperature in point Tpi is lower than max{mintpowr1, MinTPowr2, MinTPowr3}+5 C, the regulator switches on the premixing pump. Manual for RX910-FOX Page 8 of 28

9 If during the operation of the premixing pump the temperature in point Tp is lower than max{mintpowr1, MinTPowr2, MinTPowr3}, MASTER commands closing of the mixing valves of CO circuits and/or switching off the CWU charging pumps. In system U1 the return temperature is controlled individually for every boiler. If during the activity of the boiler, the temperature in point Tp drops down below MinTPowr, the regulator switches on the boiler s premixing pump. The premixing pump operates with the rundown specified in parameters. In system U2 the MASTER regulator measures the temperature in point Tp. If the temperature in the point drops down below max{mintpowr1, MinTPowr2, MinTPowr3}, MASTER commands closing of the mixing valves of CO circuits and/or switching off the CWU charging pumps. In system U3 the boiler s regulators control their return temperature autonomously by means of mixing valves installed on the returns. The return protection mechanism operates in the mode Zima (Winter) and during the CWU container feeding in the mode Lato (Summer). During the boilers stop in the mode Lato (Summer) the return is not controlled. Cooperation with the process heat circuit Closure of the binary input WeBin causes an increase of the set temperature of the cascade s feeding collector to the temperature specified by parameter TzadCT. The mechanism can be used upon feeding additional circuits from the cascade, e.g. ventilation centres with water heaters, process heat systems, etc. Upon designing the systems using the function, a removal of heat produced by the cascade should be assured together with the closure of WeBin input (e.g. by switching on the process circulation pump, opening of the valve, etc.). Heat removal, especially in the mode Lato (Summer) should be switched off with a time delay after divergence WeBin. Other functions The regulator enables output testing (function Output Test). All measured temperatures may be displayed in function Temperatures. Manual for RX910-FOX Page 9 of 28

10 SENSORS Characteristics of the temperature sensors The regulator has measurement inputs adapted to cooperation with sensors KTY The measurement range is -29 C to 95 C. The below table shows the characteristics of the measurement element. Temperature ( C) Effective resistance (Ω) Temperature ( C) Effective resistance (Ω) All sensors have the same measurement element. Information about available types of sensors and recommendations concerning their installation can be found in the catalogue sheet Temperature sensors with the measurement element KTY or on the website ASSEMBLY The regulator s casing is universal and designed for the following assembly type: baord, including in boiler control panels, wall (with a use of the base), on DIN rail (with a use of the base). Parameters important for the baord mounting: hole size: 138x92mm, depth of mounting: min 90mm, baord thickness: max 3,5mm. To fix the regulator on the baord it is necessary to use 2 extension catches located in the lower right and upper left corner of the face board. Standard dimensions of the casing enable assembly of the regulator in control panels of boilers made by many manufacturers. An assembly on a wall requires a use of the assembly base RX910-BAZA. The base is fixed to the wall with 4 screws. After connection of object cords to the base s terminals, the regulator is pushed into the base. Before putting and removing the regulator in/from the assembly base, turn off the power. Special attention is required when removing the regulator from the base. Excessive tilting of the regulator when removing it from the base may cause damage to the male part of the connector. The base may be also mounted on the DIN rail. A special base catch shall be used. 13 Power supply for the electronic part of the regulator (L) and executive circuits (L ) was separated to protect them separately (as in the below diagram): mains 230V/50Hz N L WT1 WT WT1 fuse element protecting the regulator, WT2 - fuse element protecting the executive circuits. WT1 should be 250mA, a value of WT2 should be closest to the total of currents consumed by devices supplied from the regulator (pumps, servo motors). In the simplest case the power supply can be led to terminal 17 and terminal 17 should be connected with terminal 18 as in the diagram: mains N 230V/50Hz L The regulator s supply circuit should be protected with a separate installation switch type S301. It enables, apart from the protection function, easy regulator supply switch off. At the board assembly, power supply and device cords N (blue most often) should be connected with a terminal strip N of the control cabinet or boiler s desk. Similarly, power supply and device cords PE (green-yellow most often) should be connected with a terminal strip PE of the control cabinet or boiler s desk. Base RX910-BAZA, apart from terminals seen in the diagrams, has a terminal strip N and terminal strip PE: Manual for RX910-FOX Page 13 of 28

14 Power supply and device cords N should be connected with strip N. Power supply and device cords PE should be connected with strip PE. Sensor cords or power supply cords (regulator s power supply, device control cords) cannot create a loop around the regulator. If the boiler s manufacturer did not assume a possibility of an external control of a burner, terminals 26, 27 of the regulator (control of 1st degree of the burner) should be included in the row with the boiler s regulation thermostat. Opening of the CO mixer means an increase of the flow from the boiler to the CO installation, closing means an increase of the flow of return to the CO installation. Opening of the mixer on the boiler s return means an increase of the flow from the CO installation to the boiler s return, closing means an increase of the flow from the boiler s output to the boiler s return. Communication links between the regulators (RS485) should be made as in the diagram: Communication connection is located in the middle of the back of the regulator. Plug RX910- W3 is used to make the connections. Connections in the distance over 2m should be made with a screened spiral. The screen should be connected in one point with the closest terminal PE.
