2 All Collections Materials should be curbside by 8:00 am on the designated collection day, but no earlier than 10:00 pm on the day before collection day. Collection days are Monday to Friday between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm excluding statutory holidays. Should your collection day fall on a statutory holiday, your collection will occur the following business day. To confirm the collection day in your area, please refer to the collection map and schedule on page 9 and 10 or at Garbage Collection Bi- Weekly The bi- weekly service is based on one litre can (maximum weight 23kg / 50lbs). Garbage must be bagged, not loose, and placed in the can. Additional garbage will be collected only if it is in additional can(s) and a bag tag is attached to the top bag in each can. (maximum 4 extra; 5 total) Single use bag tags can be purchased at the Regional District office at 4545 Lazelle Ave. for $2 each and are sold in groups of 10. Place garbage in a strong, water tight garbage can with lid. No recyclables, household furnishings, major appliances, larger construction materials, prohibited materials, liquids or electronics products are permitted in residential garbage collection program. See page 8 for what to do. Curbside Garbage & Recycling Collection Recycling Collection Bi- weekly Unlimited amounts of recycling are accepted if in secured bags, which are placed in cans. Use specified can(s) and labeling, along with transparent bags. Flatten cardboard, bundle and place beside your recycling can. 4 Organics Collection To receive collection, please: TO THE CURB Set organics cans out no later than 8:00 am on your collection day, but no earlier than 8:00 10:00 pm on the day before collection day. am Container Size & Limit A maximum of six items may be placed at the curb each week, consisting of two containers with lids (which may contain kitchen waste and/or yard waste) and up to four kraft paper bags or bundles of yard waste only. Each rigid container must be no more than 99 litres and 23 kg (50 lbs) when set out for collection. Each kraft paper bag must be no more than 110 litres and 23 kg (50 lbs) when set out for collection. Each bundle of yard waste must be no larger in any dimension than the height of the 110 litre kraft bag, and must be no heavier than 23 kg (50 lb). Bagging Requirements Organics that consist of kitchen waste or kitchen waste mixed with yard waste must be placed in rigid, lidded containers. The Regional District recommends, but does not require, the use of compostable bags to help keep containers clean, reduce odour, and reduce animal attraction. Compostable bags may be small (e.g. the size used to collect food scraps in the kitchen) or large (e.g. the size used to line the entire container). Compostable bags must display one of these logos: Requiring one of the two logos above means that both paper bags and bags made entirely from plant starch are acceptable. Biodegradable plastic bags such as those distributed as carrier bags by many retail outlets are not acceptable, as that type of plastic does not truly compost. 4 Regional District of Kitimat- Stikine

Maximum weight for any can: 23 kg/50 lbs. Maximum volume: 121 L per can. Place the container within 2 m (6 feet) of the roadway by 8:00 am, and please remove the empty container no later than 10:00 pm on collection day. Oops! Oops Stickers are intended to provide information to help you use the collection service correctly. If necessary, they will be placed on your can to help you sort your materials and set out your cans correctly. Most Oops Sticker messages are triggered by safety. If the can is too heavy, or if it is too far or too close to the roadway, it may be unsafe for the collector or other vehicles. The stickers will let you know. Have extra garbage to put out? Purchase your bag tags at the Regional District Office. ($2 each, sold as a sheet of 10) Display a bag- tag sticker clearly on the top bag of each extra garbage can in addition to the one can limit (maximum 4 extra; 5 total). Missed Collection?
