Please note: Recycling Program is MANDATORY Please keep this calendar in a handy place for quick reference. The day of the week that your garbage is collected will change as a holiday occurs. Refer to the shaded areas for the day you must place your garbage out for pick-up. Remember all garbage is to be placed out at the curb line for pick-up no later than 8:00 am on your pick-up day. The safety of your Garbage Collector depends on your cooperation in safely placing material for pick-up. Hypodermic needles MUST be placed in puncture proof containers prior to placing in the garbage. Broken glass must be clearly marked and packed securely to prevent the glass from protruding from the container. Containers containing liquids or materials of fluid consistency will not be collected (paint, oil, etc.). Landfill hours are Monday to Saturday 8:00 am to 4: pm. For further questions on what is accepted at Wild Cove Landfill and other related questions please contact Western Regional Waste Management at (709) A large print version of the calendar for your area is available upon request; please call If you have any questions please call or visit our website at
9 FAQ's How many bags are collected? Residents are permitted four (4) bags per week. Residents who sometimes require more than the four (4) bag limit may purchase bag tags for a small charge. Bag tags are to be used for typical additional household / kitchen garbage (i.e. NOT to be used for cleaning out an entire house). These stickers, when affixed to additional bags, will enable residents to dispose of excess garbage during the weekly curbside collection. Additional bag tags or stickers are available from the City and authorized retailers for $ each. All money collected through the purchase of bag tags goes toward the maintenance and expansion of the recycling program. Visit or call for a list of locations to purchase bag tags. There is no limit to the number of recycling bags you may place at the curb. What if I have a multi-unit home? If you have multiple units you are permitted to have four bags per unit. The City has a list of addresses where this applies and has shared it with the drivers for their reference. When and where do I put out my garbage? Garbage should be at the curbside no later than 8:00 a.m. on your garbage collection day. Place bags close to curbside but not on the sidewalk, roadway, or snow banks. What about plastic beverage containers? Other recyclables, such as beverage containers, glass bottles and aluminum cans can be brought to Scotia Recycling. What kind of bag do I use for recyclables? A clear, transparent, blue bag. These can be purchased at most department and grocery stores. The contents will be easily identified and will help the collectors distinguish between garbage and recyclables. What happens to recyclable material? Recyclable material is brought to the local Scotia Recycling Depot for processing. From there the material will be shipped to the CFK Inc plant in Hantsport, Nova Scotia. CFK is a manufacturer of sanitary food containers. Recycled material will be used to make items such as egg cartons, fruit trays, and take-out trays. Are recycle bags separated from regular garbage on the collection trucks? Yes. The trucks are split. The two compartments are side-by-side inside the truck body. One side is for regular garbage and the other side is for recycling. They use the same side entrance of the truck, and both the garbage & recycling gets compacted at the same time in their separate compartments. The material is then easily dropped off to their destinations: Scotia Recycling or Wild Cove Landfill.
10 The City of Corner Brook has updated its Garbage and Refuse Regulations Some of the changes include: - A reduction in the maximum allowable weight per garbage bag (22.5 kg) - Clarification of the types of bags that will be collected (4 bag maximum, including Kitchen Catchers ) - The requirement to cover all garbage when placed at the curb for collection - Clarification regarding collection from multi-unit residential buildings - Please remember that fiber (paper) recycling is MANDATORY. - Wildcove Landfill hours of operation: Monday - Saturday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:5 p.m. - Western Regional Waste Management phone number: (709) NOTE: The annual Spring Clean Up period is designated as the first 2 weeks in May on the regular collection day. Residents are required to have their clean up items placed at the curbside by 8:00 a.m. on the morning of their regular collection. Metal items must be placed in a separate pile at the curbside and will be collected by a designated truck.
