4 Gas Heating Technology Fall Semester: Valley View and Columbus Locations Investment is $1725 for tuition, and $150 for books and materials. ProTecs and Bryant Tech Plus dealers, ask about your discount. An intensive 18-week, one-night-aweek course designed for the entry or intermediate level service/install technician who wants to advance his heating skills. Includes classroom and hands-on lab activities with NATE certified instructors. Both Valley View and Columbus labs have 10 functional furnaces, which include standing pilot, spark ignition, draft-induced, and condensing models. Students take the AHRI Industry Competency Exam at the end of the program to obtain certification. Classes begin Tuesday, August 24th in Columbus and Wednesday, August 25th in Valley View, from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. 5 Refrigeration Technology Fall Semester: Valley View Location Investment is $1725 for tuition, and $150 for books and materials. ProTecs and Bryant Tech Plus dealers, ask about your discount. 3 This semester long program of 18 weeks, one-night-a-week is aimed at the intermediate level technician who wants to acquire commercial refrigeration troubleshooting skills. It consists of classroom and handson lab activities with an ARI certified instructor. The lab has reach-in coolers, a walk-in freezer, ice machines, multiple evaporator project, as well as a water-cooled condensing unit. Students get to work with a variety of refrigerants in order to prepare them for real world experiences. They take the AHRI Commercial Refrigeration Exam at course conclusion in order to obtain industry certification. Classes are from 6:00pm to 9:30pm, and begin on August 24th,, from 6:00pm to 9:30pm. Taught by two industry veterans; Richard Wirtz in Columbus and Jim Filliez in Akron. 11 Skills Training Class Descriptions 9 R-410A This class addresses the many myths about the replacement of R-22 with R-410-A. Topics include the Montreal Protocol, proper refrigerant handling, piping, oils, service techniques, and safety requirements. Class is state license and NATE certified for 3 hours. ECM Motor Technology Learn how to accurately, and efficiently troubleshoot ECM-driven motors. Become familiar with ECM versions 2.1, 2.5, 3.0, and x-13. Topics include motor identification, module replacement, identifying failures, and tech tips. Course is state license and NATE certified for 3 hours. EPA Refrigerant Certification Course prepares attendees to take the EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Certification Test. Subject material includes core, small appliances, high pressure appliances, and low pressure machines, such as chillers. EPA test concludes second half of session. Course is state license and NATE certified for 3 hours. Brazing & Coil Repair This class enables students to repair copper coils without destroying them. Covers oxy/acetylene, acetylene-only, nitrogen propane, soft solder, and silver solder techniques. Hands-on practice for maximum effectiveness. Course is state license and NATE certified for 3 hours. Wiring Diagrams The ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams is essential for a technician. This course covers types of diagrams and familiarization, wiring diagram reading, and troubleshooting. Course is state license and NATE certified for 3 hours. Rooftops Covers the installation, operation, and troubleshooting of Carrier/ Bryant rooftop package units from 3 to 25 tons with R-410a refrigerant. Subjects include the IGC board, compressor lockout, accutrol metering device, and economizer logic controls. State license and NATE certified for 3 hours. Hydronic Heating Systems Multiple class series for intermediate to advanced technicians which addresses hydronic fundamentals, piping, application, controls, expansion tank sizing, emitters- convectors & radiators, and troubleshooting. State license and NATE certified for 3 hours. NATE Training: Core & Gas Heating Preparation for both the NATE Core and Gas Heating Exams. Core session is soft skills, trade tools, safety, heat & matter, and electrical. Gas Heating is installation, service, system components, combustion, and venting. State license and NATE approved for 3 hours. Heat Pump Troubleshooting Understand and troubleshoot heat pumps with confidence. Reviews the fundamentals, as well as reversing valve operation, operational sequences, installation concerns, electrical circuitry, defrost, and troubleshooting techniques. State and NATE approved for 3 hours. Furnace Troubleshooting Addresses troubleshooting techniques for standing pilot, natural draft, draft-induced, and condensing furnaces. Topics are: sequence of operation, combustion air and venting, gas & ignition controls, electrical, and troubleshooting. State and NATE approved for 3 hours. Heat Exchanger Inspection Methods There just isn t one way to test all heat exchangers. Using the proper equipment will increase testing proficiency. Class covers: heat exchanger ID, designs, problem areas, failures, and different testing methods. State license and NATE approved for 3 hours.

12 Commercial Refrigeration Basics Technical overview of basic commercial refrigeration temperature, pressure, and defrost controls. Topics include refrigeration thermodynimics, reversing valves, discharge temperature control, superheat, sub-cooling, and cut-in & cut-out modes. NATE approved for 2 hours. Economizers This class will cover the initial set-up, controls, operation, and troubleshooting of Carrier factory installed and Micrometal economizers. Also addresses the operation and troubleshooting of Johnson and Honeywell logic controls. State license and NATE approved for 3 hours. Commercial Split Systems Reviews the installation, operation, and troubleshooting of Carrier commercial split system equipment. Subjects are: system plusses/ minuses, piping, oil return, TXV s, capacity control, low ambient, and hot gas bypass. State license and NATE approved for 3 hours. Venting & Combustion Air This class will provide an understanding of combustion analysis testing location and proper interpretation of the test results to insure safe, efficient, and reliable heating system operation. State license and NATE approved for 3 hours. 48PG/PM Rooftop Units This class will focus on the features and benefits of Carrier/Bryant s top of the line rooftop units with R-410A refrigerant. Subjects to be covered: unit design, operating sequences, controls, airflow, and troubleshooting. State license and NATE approved for 3 hours. Oil Heating This class will guide participants through a proper set-up for clean, efficient operation. Topics addressed are component familiarization, oil delivery system, venting & combustion air, start-up and check-out, and troubleshooting techniques. State license and NATE approved for 3 hours. Air Properties and Measurement Focus is on understanding air and its properties via a psychrometric chart. Topics include system air flow calculations, system capacity calculations, and air side problems which cause poor system performance. State license and NATE approved for 3 hours. Furnace Installations This class emphasizes industry-accepted practices for furnace installations. Subjects discussed are: application, gas piping, proper start-up, airflow, combustion, troubleshooting, and technical tips. State license and NATE approved for 3 hours. Tips, Tricks, & Rules of Thumb This class is a self-help guide to Carrier furnaces. The class manual provides the quickest methods for diagnosis on over 20 units. This program spans 20 years, covering the most common problems of Carrier s popular furnaces. State license and NATE approved for 3 hours.
