Operating Instructions The heart of the system is the electronic display panel located inside the shower cabin (see Fig. 1). The display is used to start up the four functions of the unit: the shower, the waterfall, the hydromassage and the steam bath. The display is composed of four distinct areas with clear symbols which allow you to easily identify the four main functions. (2) steam operating time (3) (8) Cycle speed (7) Steam low water indicator (13) Steam program start button (1) FIGURE 1. Waterfall start button (4) Shower start button (5) Turbo-massage start button (6) ON/OFF buttons for the jet groups To start any function: 1. Turn the inverter knob (X) to the outlet under seat position and open the waterflow by pulling the mixer lever (Y) (see Fig. 2). Then adjust water temperature by turning the mixer lever while checking the water temperature with your foot. 2. Turn the diverter knob (X) to the electronic functions position to close the water outlet under the seat. (X) - Diverter (Y) - Mixer Electronic functions Hand shower Outlet under seat FIGURE 2. NOTE: Earlier models had a different mixer/diverter configuration (see Fig. 3). If this applies to the model you are operating, use steps A, B, and C in place of steps 1 and 2 above in the following operation modes. A. Open the water flow by lifting lever Z. Water will begin to flow from the nozzle under the seat. Then adjust to the desired water temperature by turning the same lever Z. B. Pull out the diverter knob Y to close the flow of water from under the seat. C. Turn diverter knob K fully clockwise to allow water flow to the control system. NOTE: When turned fully counterclockwise water will only flow from the shower head. This is the manual operation position. IMPORTANT: After using the shower it is extremely important to close the mixing lever Z. The closing of the lever discontinues the flow of water to the system and releases the pressure keeping diverter Y in the OUT position. 2

Mixer/Diverter Valve Manual Diverter Valve ccw cw Y Z K FIGURE 3. To start the shower, perform previous steps 1 and 2 then proceed as follows: 3. Press the shower button 5 on the electronic display (Fig. 1). To stop the shower, press the same button again. The green light above 5 comes on when the function starts and goes off when it stops. In case of power failure after preliminary steps 1 and 2, the diverter knob X can be used to control the shower manually. NOTE: On earlier models, for manual mode turn the diverter K fully CCW. Cascade This function offers the pleasant sensation of a waterfall lapping over your shoulders and body as you are comfortably seated. To start the cascade, perform steps 1 and 2 then proceed as follows: 4. Press the cascade button 4 on the electronic display (Fig. 1) to automatically start water delivery from the nozzles above the seats. To stop the cascade, press the same button again. The green light above the button turns off when it stops. Starting the Hydromassage The J-Dream allows you to enjoy the benefits of a real hydromassage. The hydromassage is created by the combined action of 32 water jets (eight sets of four) under the pressure of an electrically powered pump. The action of each group of four jets is alternated according to a programmed sequence which can be changed as desired. 1. Press the hydromassage button 6 on the display (Fig. 1). All the lights relating to this function will light up. This function cannot be started while the small light is blinking. 2. Carry out the preliminary operations for starting any function. 3. If desired, use the 9, 10, 11 and 12 buttons (Fig. 1) to reduce the number of jet groups activated for the hydromassage (never less than four groups). Each group of water jets is individually controlled and its operation is illuminated on the electronic display panel. The system has a 45 second delay to allow for the setting of the speed of alternation and the desired jet activation. At the end of this delay, the jet reservoir begins to fill. The reservoir takes approximately 20 seconds to fill. The system is fully active after the reservoir is full and the green light above button 6 (Fig. 1) remains illuminated 4. Now press the button 6 to start the hyromassage. 5. To stop the hydromassage, press the same button 6 again. The cycle speed of the jet groups can be changed during operation by pressing the (+) and (-) buttons. Also the groups can be activated or cancelled by pressing the buttons. These variations can be made without stopping the hydromassage. When the hydromassage is switched off, all programming changes are automatically erased. Therefore, when this function is again started, the unit will automatically be programmed to operate at an average speed of alternation between the groups of water jets, and all eight groups of jets will be active. The intensity of the hydromassage can be adjusted on each of the 32 jet nozzles by turning the jet as shown in Figure 4. Turning the jet counterclockwise will produce a unified and compact water jet. Turning the jet clockwise will make a fan- shaped water jet. 3

FIGURE 4. Starting the SteamBath The beneficial effects of a steam bath have been recognized since ancient times. The steam bath has long since become part of every culture. 1. Press the steam bath button 1 on the display (Fig. 1). At this point, the time display will indicate 00 and the green light above button 1 will start blinking. The green light will flash (approximately 45 seconds) giving a delay for setting the water (step I) and the steam timer from 0 to 60 minutes using the (+) and (-) buttons. The function cannot be started while the light is blinking. 2. Carry out the two preliminary operations for starting any function. Note: A higher water temperature position of the mixer handle (Y) when the reservoir and steamer are filling will reduce waiting time for steam. 3. After the reservoir is full, the green and yellow lights above button 1 will come on continuously, indicating the steam unit is ready. Now press button 1 (Fig. 1) again and the green light will go out and the yellow light will start flashing. This indicates that the steam bath is now operational. The yellow light remains flashing until an audible buzzer sounds and steam begins to come out of the steam nozzle (approximately 3 1/2 minutes). The yellow light goes out after the one second buzzer sounds, and the green light comes on and remains on throughout the steam time setting. The steam bath can be turned off at any time by depressing button 1 during the operation; this will cancel the operational sequence. During the steam bath treatment, the time can always be varied by pressing the (+) and (-) buttons without interrupting the functions. Also for your convenience, a buzzer will sound when the steam timer reaches zero (00). There is a 10 second delay before the steam bath function is cancelled. During this delay the timer can be reset to allow more steam bath operation. The steam bath function is controlled with a safety device (indicated by a faucet with a water drop symbol on the display). This safety device operates in the event that water has been turned off before the steam timer reaches 00. If the steam water level drops below the minimum level, the red light (13, Fig. 1) above the faucet symbol will come on and an audible signal will sound warning that the water flow from mixer Y has stopped. This occurs approximately 5 minutes after the flow has ceased. If water is not restored to the steamer unit at this time, the steam bath function will be cancelled. The electronic device has a self test program which checks all functions when the power is turned on. All the lights on the display turn on in a programmed test sequence lasting 8 seconds and testing 14 events. The end of the test sequence leaves the steam digital time display (Fig. 1) reading (--). In case of power failure while the J-Dream is operating, any function will be completely cancelled. When power is restored, the self test will activate and any function can be reset at this time. The electronic unit is equipped with an internal safety program which automatically cancels any function if a program has not been completed within 60 minutes. Before changing from the hydromassage to the steam bath function, or vice versa, the water in the holding tank will be automatically exchanged, which requires approximately a 60 second waiting period. This feature is incorporated to decrease deposit buildups in the steam generator. 4

Routine Maintenance The shower head is equipped with a filter which must be occasionally cleaned of limestone and other deposits. The filter is placed between the flexible hose and the shower head. If limestone deposits are on the jet nozzles, the shape of the water jets may be altered. Remove and clean the nozzles occasionally. Forcefully turn the nozzle counterclockwise until a click is felt. Then remove the nozzle and clean it by soaking it in a moderate vinegar and water solution. Do not use metal tools (scissors, screwdrivers, etc.) to clean the nozzle. For routine cleaning of plastic surfaces, such as the side panel, the shower wall panel, etc., use a mild liquid detergent only. Do not use abrasive cleaners, alcohol, or other solvents. Any normal polish can be used to keep acrylic surfaces shiny. The glass panels can be cleaned with any glass-cleaning product available on the market. Do not use abrasive, solvents, or acetone on any part of the J-Dream. Special Maintenance Operations, Hard Water Areas If the steam bath is used frequently in a hard water area, particles of limestone may be deposited in the steam generator and reduce its performance. Jacuzzi Whirlpool Bath recommends the installation of a water softener unit, in order to eliminate or reduce limestone deposits. Jacuzzi Whirlpool Bath also recommends the installation of a particle filter because the solenoid valve can be obstructed by large particles in the water, thus causing malfunctions. To be sure that water conditions in your area will not require the installation of a water softener unit or a particle filter, consult a professional plumber. In a hard water area, filter screens in the solenoid valves may become obstructed over time or with heavy use. If the procedures under "Routine Maintenance Operations" do not correct a flow problem, call a qualified service technician to inspect and clean the solenoid valve filter screens, located in the equipment area of the shower unit. The valves are accessed through the vertical fixed panel adjacent to the sliding shower doors. The valves can also be accessed by removing 3 screws located between the glass and the edge of the seatwall and pivoting the seatwall inward. IMPORTANT: When installing the shower unit, be sure to leave adequate clearance to allow the removal of the vertical panel for service access. 5

HOW TO USE THE HAND SHOWER WHILE STEAM IS OPERATING UNITS AFFECTED: J-90, J-100, J-DREAM, J-DREAM II, J-CARRE Follow the steps below to operate the hand shower during steam operation without turning off the steam function. This procedure avoids the drain/fill/heat-up cycle that occurs when the steam control is turned off and back on again at the control panel. 1. During normal steam operation, the transfer valve is in the middle position as shown in Figure 1 and the mixer valve is open, or "ON". 2. Without changing the electronic control panel settings, turn the transfer valve handle to the "hand shower" position. Water will flow from the hand shower, and the mixer handle may be used to adjust the water temperature. The steam mode will continue to function. 3. When you have finished cooling down or rinsing off with the hand shower, turn the transfer valve handle back to the middle position leaving the mixer handle "ON". 9 SYSTEM OVERVIEW ' The operation of the J-Dream II, J-90, J-100, J-Dream Corner and J-Carre are identical (the J-Dream Corner does not have a steam function). The physical size, arrangement, pump/motors and plumbing differ from unit to unit, but they all possess the same electronic control boxes, 4-way solenoid valves, steam generators, system display panels and water level sensors. These units are all equipped with hinged access doors to allow for service and equipment repair/removal (see Fig. 5). The J-90 and J-100 seat walls open towards the shower enclosure, allowing the seat ' wall to move away from the back wall thereby gaining access to the equipment area. The J-Dream II, J-Carre and J- Corner units also employ this method to gain access to the equipment area. CAUTION: Care must be taken not to force the seat wall against the back wall or to put undue stress on the hinged area while the door is in the OPEN position. Electronic Display Panel The Electronic Display Panel (see Fig. 1) is located inside the shower unit on the back wall. This panel is used to control the four operating modes of the unit: the shower, the cascade waterfall, the hydromassage and the steam bath. The panel is composed of four distinct areas with clear symbols which allow you to easily identify the four main functions. This panel is connected through a control cable to the Electronic Control Box J-2 connector (see Figures 6,7, and 8). The 9-pin cable supplies the 5 VDC required by the panel for its internal program timing and operation, while also supplying the CPU in the panel status information for control of the functioning components of the overall system. Common to the Electronic Display Panel and Electronic Control Box is the internal troubleshooting diagnostic program. This system self-test feature is initiated by the Electronic Control Box to the Electronic Display Panel upon initial system power-up. System Self-Test As previously stated, this is an internal system diagnostic designed to test the interaction of the Electronic Control Box and the Electronic Display Panel. The test is self-starting when the main power to the unit is turned on at the house electrical breaker supplying the unit. Upon initiation, the Initialize LED (LD1) in the Electronic Control Box should briefly turn ON and and start the panel to test its alarm buzzer and all of its display LED lights in a sequential operation. These LEDs should sequence ON and OFF in a counterclockwise direction. This 8 second, 14 step test starts by sounding the alarm buzzer and continues by lighting the Steam Low Water Indicator LED (13), the Steam Mode yellow and green LEDs, places (88) in the Steam Time Indicator, lights the Waterfall, Shower, Hydromassage Jet Sequence, Cycle Speed Bar Graph LEDs, and ends by leaving (-) in the Steam Operating Time Indicator. Electronic Control Box Figures 6, 7, 8, and 9 show electrical information for the Electronic Control Box such as J connector location and pin and wire color descriptions. J1 through J4 connect the electrical power and communication to and from the Electronic Control Box, the box in which the CPU and power distribution are housed. There are four screws securing the Electronic Control Box to the metal J-Dream frame. These can be removed to lower the Box for service access. Numbers on the wires and cables direct you to their location within the Box. Incoming power from the 15 Amp power cord (240 VAC plug end) is routed to the Electrical Junction Box located next to the Electronic Control Box. This power to the unit is connected to J4 inside the Electronic Control Box. J4 is a 6-pin connector that distributes 240 VAC to T1 for conversion to low voltage control power. T1 power inputs (Primary) and two (Secondary) outputs 23 VAC and 26 VAC are shown for measurement reference. The J4 connector is also used to supply 240 VAC by program demand to the Jet Pump Motor or the Steam Unit. The Reservoir Tank is connected to the Electronic Control Box via J3 where 12 VDC is sent to the Water Level Sensor located in the Cap of the Holding Tank. J1 supplies all water solenoid relay valves. This connector is divided into four groups of four pins each. J2 supplies power and sends/receives information from the Electronic Display Panel. To the lower left of J2 is LD1. This LED is the one discussed in the System Self-Test. When the breaker is turned ON this LED should flash once and initiate the System Self-Test. Except for this one flash, LD1 should remain OFF. There is a 2-pin VCC TEST connection located next to LD1. This is to check for supply 5 VDC (VCC) to the Electronic Control Box and Display Panel. Manual Controls The manual operation of water flow is controlled by the valves shown in Figures 2 and 3. The Mixer/Diverter Valve set consists of a single handle mixing valve (Z) that controls the hot/cold water mixing and a Diverter Valve (Y) that controls the mixed output. When Diverter Valve Y is pulled to the OUT position, the mixing output is diverted to the Diverter Valve K. Depending on the clockwise or counterclockwise direction of Diverter Valve K, water is directed to the electronic controlled system operation, or to the manual shower operation. If the water supply out of the mixer is interrupted, Diverter Valve Y returns to the IN position. Water flow from Diverter Valve Y will then be routed to the 7

nozzle under the seat. J-Dream Water Flow Charts, Figures 10 and 11 illustrate the functions of these valves. 4-Way Solenoid Valve - System Solenoid Drain Valve Two types of solenoid relay valves are used on J-Dream Shower Systems: the 4-Way Solenoid Valve and the System Solenoid Drain Valve (see Fig. 12, Sheet 1 of 3). Both have 12 VDC coils and are Normally Closed () type valves. The 4-Way Solenoid Valve (RY1 through RY8) has one input and four possible outputs. The System Solenoid Drain Valve (RY9) has one input and only one output. Coil resistance for all relays is approximately 10 ohms. Electrical solenoid controlled relays are controlled by the Electronic Control Box in response to the function initiated by the user. Diverter Valve Y placed in the OUT position supplies water to Diverter Valve K. Positioning Diverter Valve K clockwise directs water flow to the input of the 4-Way Solenoid Valve. When the coil of RY1 is energized by 12 VDC, the valve opens allowing water flow to the Hand Held Shower. If RY2 is energized, water will flow from the Cascade Waterfall. If the Hydromassage or Steam Function is selected, outputs from RY3 and RY4 are connected in tandem to provide a fast fill for the Reservoir-approximately 20 seconds. Solenoid relays RY5, RY6, RY7 and RY8 control the flow of water to their individual set of 4 jets each. These solenoid relays also share a common water input to the 4-Way Solenoid Valve Body. Water Reservoir System When the Hydromassage or Steam function are selected, the Water Reservoir is utilized to provide the Pump or the Steam Unit with enough water volume for function demand. This compensates for areas where water supplies are inadequate to provide proper hydromassage action. RY3 and RY4 combine to provide the water input for filling the Reservoir (see Fig. 12, Sheet 2 of 3). The Water Level Sensor located in the Cap of the Tank helps to control the ON/OFF of the supply solenoid relays. There are three separate level checks measured by the Sensor. Low Level (S3) sets the condition for low level water and initial fill. Full (S2) is the level the unit strives to maintain. Over Fill (S1) ensures the water fill is stopped. A visual check can be made of the status of these three levels. Carefully remove the Cap Cover and view the Fill and LED indication. Trimmer pot adjustments are located next to the LEDs but these are factory pre-set and should not be field adjusted. There is an overflow line that discharges into the shower pan in the event of a Water Level Sensor failure. NOTE: In the event that field adjustment of the Water Level Sensor is required, refer to the Water Level Sensor Field Calibration Procedures in this manual or contact our Service Support Department or your Region Service Manager for assistance with this calibration. Steam Generator The Steam Generator is gravity filled from the Reservoir as the Reservoir is filling. Steam output is plumbed to a nozzle under the seat during the selected steam function. RY9 controls the drain down of the reservoir when the Hydromassage or Steam function is cancelled or completed. Power-240VAC/9Amps-to the Steam Generator is supplied from J4 of the Electronic Control Box (see Fig. 12, Sheet 3 of 3). The Steam function like the Hydromassage requires a full water reservoir. Should the water drop below the S2 (full) reservoir level for more than 30 seconds, the Low Water LED (13) on the Electronic Display Panel will light up and the audible alarm will sound. The Steam Low Water Level Alarm will stop when the water is restored to its full level. There is a Hi-Limit Safety Switch located in the Steam Tank. This switch can be reset by unscrewing the metal cap on top of the Steam Tank and pressing the reset button. The 2.2K heater coil has an approximate resistance of 26 ohms. NOTE: Low water level in the Reservoir can result in a premature tripping of the Steam Unit Hi-Limit Safety Switch. To correct this situation, the Water Level Sensors may have to be adjusted. Normal Reservoir full level is approximately 1/2" below the overflow line. Pump/Motor Assembly The J-Dream Shower System units employ a pump and motor assembly available as a combined unit. This combination provides equal pressure to all the jets while in the Hydromassage mode. 240 VAC power is supplied to the motor via J4 from the Electronic Control Box. Water input is plumbed to the top of the pump from the reservoir and output is sent out the discharge end to the 4-Way Solenoid Valve common inputs. Typical operating amperage ' for the motor is 1.5 Amps. The J-90, J-100 and J-Carre units have a capacitor-start motor where the capacitor is accessible by removing a cap on top of the motor (see Fig. 13). The J-Dream II also uses a capacitor-start motor but the capacitor is not accessible and if it fails the motor must be replaced (see Fig. 14). 8

Water Level Sensor Field Calibration Procedure The following is a field calibration procedure for the reservoir Water Level Sensor on the J-Dream Shower Systems. ' Current models using the water reservoir system are the J-90, J-100, J-Carre, J-Corner and J-Dream II. This adjustment may become necessary if the Water Level Sensor needs replacing or the water level continuously overflows or under fills. Having the water level too low can result in the Hi-Limit tripping (the Steam Tank fills to the same level as the Reservoir Tank). If one of the above conditions exist calibrate Sensors S3, S2 and S1 as follows: Gain access to the equipment and carefully remove (do not twist) the top cap off of the Water Level Sensor. This will expose the Connector, Trimmer Pots and Level Indicator LEDs ( see Fig.12, Sheet 2 of 3 ). Turn on the Hydromassage function to activate the Jet program sequence. The first function of this sequence is to energize RY9 and drain the reservoir. Forty-five seconds after the start button is pressed, RY9 is de-energized and RY3 and RY4 should energize and begin to fill the reservoir. As the tank fills, observe the LEDs on the top of the Water Level Sensor. These should start to light (in sequence) as the water level increases up the probe loop. S3 or the LED closest to the plug connector should light when the water reaches the bottom of the loop. S2 should light approximately 1" below the Over Flow Tube. S1 should light approximately 1" to 1/2" below the Over Flow Tube. If the LEDs do not light or the water level is set too low, adjust the trimmer pots to come ON at the proper level. S2 is the only LED next to its Trimmer Pot* S3 LED is adjusted by turning the Trimmer Pot S3 located next to the lower LED S1. NOTE: Counterclockwise adjustment of the Trimmer Pots turns ON the LED and clockwise adjustment turns it OFF. All LEDs should be ON with the reservoir FULL. When the water level drops below the S2 set point, LEDs S2 and S1 should both be OFF. This sends the signal to energize RY3 and RY4 to again start filling the reservoir. *Later versions of the Water Level Sensor have been changed so that the Trimmer Pot location is next to the LED it controls. 9
