2 This handbook assumes that the reader and/ or operator is competent in the operation of chemical dosing systems and fully understands the inherent risks associated with the handling of liquid chemicals. If in any doubt please refer to chemical specification sheet and/or materials safety data sheets (msds).
3 The DosingCube is a self contained dosing system designed specifically for emergency dosing of water & waste water treatment chemicals from an IBC or existing chemical storage tank. The DosingCube is available to complement a number of types and sizes of dosing pump. Further in-built timers/controllers also available. The DosingCube itself forms a bund, which incorporates a level switch for leak detection. The pump is turned off if a leak is detected. By using the DosingCube Configurator you can build your own specification: Pump type, materials of construction, additional safety features such as safety guards, bund spill alarms, Pump protection, plus many other features, your company livery / logo? 5 Operation The WES DosingCube operates on 110V AC (or 240V AC). Certain models/ specifications incorporate a Timer/Controller unit. See programming details. Once power is supplied switch unit ON via the controller isolator, then set the controller to the required mode and the pump to the discharge volume via the pump s digital display (pump manual also provided). Site the DosingCube in an appropriate/safe location (brackets are supplied for use with an IBC). Place suction pipe into chemical and run discharge pipe to the point of application. Use a dual contained pipe arrangement where possible. The DosingCube itself acts as a bund and includes a relief valve and float switch, however, a tank/ibc bund is also recommended. Please note that the materials of construction for this product are suitable for most chemicals commonly used in water and waste water treatment. The operator should confirm that chemical compatibility is suitable. Chemicals to be used should be defined at point of order. Once correct installation is complete the DosingCube is ready for use and can be operated in the chosen mode, i.e. manual, automatic or flow proportional (additional cables required for flow proportional). For long suction runs the pump may need to be manually primed before the system is ready for automatic use (see pump manual). The lid of the DosingCube is lockable for safety of operation and to prevent tampering. The pump head can be constructed from different materials. Generally PVC is suitable for the following chemicals. Aluminium Chloride, Ammonia 10%, Calcium Hydroxide, Calcium Hypochlorite, Chlorine Dioxide, Ferric Chloride, Ferric Hydroxide, Ferric Sulphate, Hydrochloric Acid 37%, Hydrogen Peroxide 30%, Sulphuric Acid 70%. Smart pumps below 60l/hr head is polypropylene. Please contact supplier if unsure about compatibility. Note: system MUST be flushed if different chemicals are used. The cube is designed to offer maximum protection to the operator and environment from accidental chemical spillage or system failure. It is the operator s responsibility to ensure that all possible steps are taken to maximise the safe positioning of the DosingCube, handling of the chemical and the routing of the dosing pipework.
6 Fault Finding Error Cause Remedy Pump will not start No mains power Connect 110V power supply Pump will not run/start No mains supply to pump Switch isolator on controller to ON position Liquid in bottom of DosingCube Possible blockage & PRV relieving into bund Pipework leak/ breakage Remove restriction or blockage Check & repair as necessary & drain bund via sump plug Liquid in bund, pump will not start Float switch is raised causing pump cut out Empty bund via sump plug Mains available, pump runs, no chemical dosed If there is a long or high suction lift the pump needs priming Refer to pump manual for priming assistance Pump will not run at required times Check controller for correct setting Refer to controller fault finding Specific fault finding details are included for pump and controller/timer
7 IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTE PLEASE READ SAFETY DATA SHEETS BEFORE HANDLING CHEMICALS THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT WEARING THE RELEVANT PERSONAL SAFETY EQUIPMENT This manual must be read in conjunction with the operating instructions for other items of plant not covered in this manual that form part of the complete chemical dosing package, along with the Process and Instrumentation Diagrams and General Arrangement drawings relating specifically to this equipment. General Good Practice and Housekeeping In addition to the prescribed maintenance detailed for the component parts by the respective manufacturers the following should be carried out. All spillages, no matter how small must be cleaned up immediately. Check all threaded union joints for tightness, this should be carried out weekly or if a leak has occurred. Check the alarm settings, the float switch in the bund and the flow indicator. The level switch can be manually actuated to check the system. These checks should be carried out every month.
