Fig Tree Lane, Plantation, FL Dear BCBC Members and Friends: We are so deeply saddened that Elane Neuhring, the former President of the Miami Blue Chapter of NABA, is no longer able to share her joy of life with us. Elane will be sorely missed. We will be collecting donations for the next two months and are checking into Broward County s policy for memorials in the hopes that we could do something in Elane s honor at Long Key Natural Area and Nature Center. Elane and her husband, Ron, were instrumental for the Butterfly Photographs on display at Long Key. Elane was also the reason for the Miami Blue s and the BCBC s participation with Long Key for the National Moth Week events for the past two years. If you would like to make a contribution, please make your check payable to the BCBC. We will keep you posted on what will be happening. Hank Poor s presentation last month wowed us as usual. Hank shared new macrophotographs of butterflies and we were amazed to see the various kinds of butterfly legs as well as other astonishing photos and to hear Hank s stories regarding how he got those fabulous photographs. Join us on Tuesday, March 11 th to hear Kelli Whitney s presentation on how to identify Sulphur Butterflies. Kelli is the Park Naturalist at Long Key Natural Area and Nature Center, so be sure to bring some paper so you can take down good notes on those challenging yellow streaks flying above us. April Meeting: Members and Friends Photo Night:

2 It is that time of year when we are requesting that you submit five or six photos of some forms of a butterfly s life cycle, which will be presented at our April meeting. Photos should be in Jpeg format, and if possible the name of the photographer should appear on the picture. This would be a very helpful and ensure that photos do not get mixed up. Submissions are due on April 1 st and any entries received after that date will not be accepted. Thank you to Betty Cullinane and Ann Poe for renewing their memberships. 12 th Annual Broward County Water Matters Day Saturday, March 8 th Tree Tops Park, Davie 9:00 to 3:00 We were very fortunate to be able to secure a larger tent this year to handle all of our displays and the visitors who swarm our booth at Broward County s Water Matters Day. Thank you to Broward County for that generosity! It looks like we are one of the few groups to get a larger tent. Look for us at booth location #46, which seems to be across from where we used to be and now just past the beginning of the food trucks, a new addition to the event. Also, A BIG THANK YOU to Nancy Johns who volunteered to chair this event and to those 12 other members/friends who agreed to assist. Please be sure to bring water for yourself as it will not be provided this year to volunteers and bring some funds to partake of the 20 Food Trucks if you get hungry. If you are coming to the event, admission is $1.50 for anyone over 5 years of age. Insect ID Help I found some interesting eggs on Blue Mist Flower leaves and Sandy Koi was nice enough to send my photo of them on to Lyle Buss, who is the manager of the Insect Lab at UF. Lyle offered some help to ID them and he also gave us the excellent link below for slide shows of insects to use for identification. There are numerous slide shows and the one on citrus plant pests was able to help me ID what was damaging my new key lime tree.
