1 592 INDIANA HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS MIAMI COUNTY I FEBRUARY 2, 1832: Formation by statute, effective April 2, 1832, corrected by statute of January 30, 1833, effective on publication. The formation affected Cass County and attached territory. Miami was organized by a law of January 2, 1834, effective March 1, BOUNDARIES: The description in the original act of formation read: "beginning at the north west corner of section five, town twenty-nine, of range five, being the north west corner of Wabash county, thence south with the western boundary line of said county, twenty-four miles, thence east five miles to the north west corner of Grant county, thence south six miles, thence west, to a point due south of range line dividing townships three and four east of the second principal meridian line, thence north with said range line, to a point due west of the place of beginning, thence east to the place of beginning." Laws of Indiana, , p Ambiguities in the description were corrected by the act of January 30, 1833, which outlined the county boundaries as follows: "beginning at the north east corner of section three in township twenty-nine north, being the north west corner of Wabash county, running thence south with the western boundary of said county twenty-four miles, thence from the south west corner of the county of Wabash, east four miles to the north west corner of Grant county, thence south six miles, thence west fourteen miles, thence north with the range line dividing ranges three and four east of the ~econd principal meredian thirty miles, thence east ten miles on the township line dividing townships twenty-nine and thirty to the place of beginning." 3 594 INDIANA HISTORICAL COLLECTIONS MIAMI COUNTY I1 JANUARY 2, 1834: Alteration by statute, organizing Miami County, effective March 1, BOUNDARY CHANGE: The act attached to Miami County the territory included in the following boundaries : "beginning at the south west corner of the county of Miami, running thence west two miles, thence north with the section lines thirty miles, to the north east corner of section three, in township twenty nine, and in range three, thence east two miles on the line dividing townships twenty-nine and thirty, to the north west corner of the county of Miami." COUNTY SEAT: Commissioners appointed under this act hesitated between two town sites, Miamisport and Peru, both of which are now included within the city limits of Peru, in their choice of a county seat. Peru was chosen, though county business was done at Miamisport before the newer town of Peru was sufficiently established. BOUNDARIES: "Beginning at corners of sections two and three in township twenty-four north of range number three east, and the corners of sections thirty-four and thirty-five in township twentyfive north of range number three east, that being the south-east corner of Cass county; thence north thirty miles to the corners of sections two and three in township number twenty-nine north of range number three east, and the corners of sections number thirtyfour and thirty-five in township thirty north of range three east; on the line dividing said last named townships, eight miles to the north-east corner of township number twenty-nine north of range four east; tllerice north three miles to the corners of sections thirteen and twenty-four in township thirty north, range number four east, and the corners of sections numbered eighteen and nineteen in township number thirty north of range number five east; thence east four miles to the corners of sections fourteen, fifteen, twentytwo and twenty-three in township number thirty north of range number five east, that being the north-west corner of Wabash county; thence south twenty-seven miles to the corners of sections two and three in township twenty-five, and of sections thirty-four and thirty-five in township twenty-six of range five east," [east four miles, south six miles, and west to the place of beginning]. BOUNDARY CHANGE: All that,part of Miami north of the township line dividing townships 29 and 30 north, and east of the range line dividing ranges 4 and 5 east of the second principal meridian, was transferred to Fulton County.
