1 MISSION STATEMENT 100 Quincy is a project to transform a vacant, underutilized lot in Bedford-Stuyvesant into a thriving urban garden and welcoming community space. We have individual and communal garden plots to share locally grown produce with residents. Through educational programming, rainwater collection, and composting, we promote sustainable practices that benefit the neighborhood. 100 Quincy Community Garden 100 Quincy St. Brooklyn NY quincy@gmail.com 100quincy.wordpress.com

Perhaps here we can experiment with different plants/methods (Japanese Garden) 20 FT Tables Plot Front of the garden has benches and is welcoming and can double as a demonstration and meeting area with the picnic tables. Compost collection bins. When these become full they are taken to the back where there is a larger collection system. 30 FT Walkways filled with either gravel or mulch. Plots are roughly LOT 37 5 feet in diameter. LOT 39 With the hexagon shape more plots can fit into the space while giving a large amount of growing room. Plots can just be portioned off on the ground or be raised beds. 40 FT Grill 50 FT Table 100 FT Table 60 FT Benches & chairs Trees or shrubs. These can also be container gardens of some kind. 70 FT Pond 80 FT This system has a plastic cover and wooden slats that can be removed from the front. 5 A NOTE FROM OUR NEIGHBOR Dear HPD, As a long time resident of Quincy Street (since 1976), I support the 100 Quincy Lot Group and their community building efforts. The green space on the 100 Quincy Street lot would be an area for my neighbors to interact with one another. More important, a new mixed- use space on this block is greatly needed for our neighborhood. Over the years I have experienced what can happen when neighbors work together. I believe in cooperation and how it benefits the entire community. I would love to see neighbors share in the responsibility of making our area better. In the past, neighbors have banned together to resolve some negative problems occurring on this block. Now I see the same unity to further enrich our neighborhood with something positive. I have gotten positive feedback when discussing the use of the lot with neighbors. Please permit the 100 Quincy Lot Group to use this space on 100 Quincy as a nucleus for beautifying our sidewalks, edifying our children on nature, and greening our shared village. If you have any additional questions, please contact me at Sincerely, Lillian Summers 79A Quincy Street Brooklyn, New York Quincy Community Garden 100 Quincy St. Brooklyn NY quincy@gmail.com 100quincy.wordpress.com

7 100 Quincy Community Garden Survey Results Take the survey: facebook.com/100quincy click on survey monkey 41 responses as of % of respondents live in the area directly around the garden. The rest live elsewhere in Brooklyn. Other zip codes include 11233, 11221, and How can the 100 Quincy lot best reflect your needs and those of the community? Garden Co-op Open space for group functions Urban Agriculture (Beekeeping, Chickens, Food Production) Quiet space for reflection and reading We will be required to host at least one event per year. What type of programming event would you be interested in creating? Workshops on sustainable environments Workshops on organic cooking Workshops on planting and soil enrichment Workshops for children on urban gardening We have created three preliminary layouts of the garden. Which design do you feel best makes the space available to the community? Design 1 Design 2 Design 3 None of the above Selected Quotes This would be a great addition to the neighborhood Green space is great! Thank you so much! This is deperately needed! Would be great to have the garden in the community in any form! I'm really excited! I live at 420 classon, am a science teacher, and would love to get involved. It would be great to convert that empty lot to a multifunctional community space including urban agriculture and opportunities for interaction and events. I fully support this project! Good luck! :) I am so excited about working to grow this community garden! Two things important to me are composting and rainwater collection. As president of the Clexy Multi Block Association, I endorse this project and will help mobilize our 100+ members of the Classon, Quincy and Lexington area. - Laura Benko, President, CLEXY I would like to see more involvement and engagement with the community rather than individuals (who may not live on the block) being assigned their own plot to garden. How can the youth be involved? Teaching gardening? Selling vegetables? I think it's important to make sure the space is maintained and people stay interested. This is truly a collaborative effort and it needs to be made sure that many people continue to be involved. Looks great!
