1 MALIBU ORCHID SOCIETY Volume XLVIII, xviii April 2012 President s Message: Annual Auction One of our most important events of the year is coming up in just a few days, our annual orchid auction on Tuesday, April 17. This is our biggest fund-raiser of the year and provides the income for the rent, insurance, shows, supplies and the speakers we hear every month. We acquired a large number of excellent plants from the vendors at the Santa Barbara Orchid Show, and a number of our own growers are donating plants for the sale. Be sure to come, and bring your friends! This is an excellent opportunity to buy some fine plants at very reasonable prices. Santa Barbara Orchid Show Although we had fewer plants on display this year, we still garnered 13 ribbons, which are listed in Birute s column nearby. In addition, they sent us a very nice, and unexpected, cash gift. We offer our many thanks to a couple who have donated so much of their time an effort to the society over so many years. Sale begins at 7:30pm Club Pacific Palisades Woman s Club 901 Haverford Avenue Pacific Palisades, Once a year MOS hosts an auction of high quality orchids. This year will be no exception. We have donations from Vendors and some of our best growers. We also need our members to bring plants from their collections to augment what we have from the other donors. It is important that we get as many members and guests as possible attending this event. Please pass the word around, that we will have a wide range of orchids both species and hybrids, indoor and outdoor plants. Refreshments will be offered. An illustrated presentation will be given by Falu Trieu and Birute Vileisis. SUNDAY APRIL 22 ND AM 2PM FOURTH ANNUAL BBQ & ORCHID SALE.
