Lee Center, Alexandria, VA. The Zeta Chi Omega Chorale provided a musical prelude I Carry the Light written by Soror Negletha Johnson. The meeting was called to order by Soror Rhonda Luss, Basileus at 10:02 am. Meditation: Led by Soror Toni Carter Pearson. Recognized Breast Cancer survivors and all Cancer survivors Congratulated Soror Monique Robinson for her hard work and dedication in collecting signatures for the Ethel Hedgeman Lyle Stamp. Zeta Chi Omega received the 2017 Commemorative Stamp Award. Announced that Soror Negletha Johnson and the Zeta Chi Omega Chorale will sing, I Carry the Light, before the rededication ceremony at the Northern Western Virginia Cluster on Saturday, October 28, Announced that Zeta Chi Omega will host a reception at the National Founders Day. Soror Leslie Dey Murray will serve as chairman and Soror Yvette Darnaby will serve as co-chairman of the National Founders Day Reception. Anti-Tamiouchos: Soror Katrina Anwar September report General Fund Account: Beginning Balance as of September 1, 2017 $115, Total Revenue $122, Total Expenditures $ 7, Ending Bank Balance as of September 30, 2017 $114, Property Fund: Beginning Balance as of September 1, 2017 $291, Ending Balance as of September 30, 2017 $293, Presented written report with footnotes. 3 Announced that the October birthdays will be celebrated at a birthday lunch at Rustico s located at 827 Slaters Lane in Alexandria. All sorors are welcome to attend. Graduate Advisor: Soror VaShawn Guice Veal Soror Vanessa Jackson attended the MAR Undergraduate Roundup in VA Beach, VA from September 22-23, The Chapter files were delivered for re-evaluation. The results of the re-evaluation have not been received. Due to timing, Sigma Alpha will not be able to conduct MIP for fall STANDING COMMITTEE REPORTS Programs: Soror Melonie Barrington, Chairman, Family Strengthening Committee Target I-Soror Andrea Sparks Brown Project Stepout October 10, 2017, from 4-5 PM Tutoring at St. John s Baptist Church every Monday from 4:30-7:30 PM Hurricane Relief Efforts Committee led by Soror Margarette Peterson will have a packing party on October 16, 2017, at the Alexandria Police Station Community Room. Target II-NAMI Walk- 7 Sorors participated in the annual National Alliance for Mental Health (NAMI) walk at Tysons Corner, VA. Chapter contributions included $670 in individual contributions and $500 from the IFNV. Target III-In observance of Childhood Hunger Month, the Chapter will be participating in the Arlington Food Assistance Center (AFAC) s Backpack Buddies program. The Chapter will sponsor 100 children at $7.50. Funds will come from the Target III budget. Senior Citizens Dinner-Soror Darlena Ricks, Chairman The Annual Senior Citizens Dinner is scheduled for Saturday, December 9, 2017, at Drew Model School. AARP will provide 150 goodie bags, 5 gift baskets for the raffle and a display table with literature. A New Member Orientation will be conducted immediately following the Chapter meeting in the auditorium of the Nannie J. Lee Center. In preparation for the 2017 gubernatorial race in the Commonwealth of Virginia, a forum is scheduled at Alfred Street Baptist Church in the lower level multi-purpose room on Thursday, October 12, This event is cosponsored by the Alfred Street Baptist Church and Northern Virginia Urban League Young Professionals Network. AD HOC COMMITTEE REPORTS Mentoring: Soror Michelle Jones, Chairman 4
5 A Mentoring Café was held prior to the Chapter meeting. This Café offered new members, transfers and reactivated members an opportunity to learn about various Alpha Kappa Alpha topics in an informal setting. The topic for this café was Alpha Kappa Alpha conferences, and it was presented by Soror AdeLeaka Gore. Upcoming activities include a tour of Howard University, Mentoring recognition at the December meeting, Mentoring Café in the spring, Mentoring webinar in the fall, and a Vision Board party to kick off the New Year. Volunteers are needed to serve as mentors for transfer and reactivated sorors. Sisterly Relations-Soror Allyson Hilliard, Chairman Thanked sorors for a very successful Chapter Retreat, which was held on August 18 th -19 th, at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center. The December Chapter Meeting and Holiday Luncheon will be held at the Westin Tysons Corner on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 10:00 AM. The attire is Black (no pants) with Green or Pink accents. Tickets are $45 for Chapter Sorors and $50 for Non-Chapter Sorors. Tickets will be available for purchase from October 7 th - November 17 th. A You Go, Soror was extended to newly initiated Soror Brandi Berry. A You Go, Soror can be given to any Soror who has exhibited extraordinary sisterly behavior. If you would like to recognize a soror, please the Sisterly Relations committee. National Founders Day Reception: Soror Leslie Dey Murray, Chairman The 2018 National Founders Day 110 th Anniversary Celebration will take place Thursday, January 11, 2018 Monday, January 15, The host hotel for the event is the Washington Hilton Hotel. Events will also be held at Howard University. Zeta Chi Omega has been asked to assist with the Founders Day reception, which will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018, from 9:30PM-12:00 AM. Registration will open in October. Sorors interested in working on the reception must be registered for the celebration. Please contact Soror Leslie Murray, Chairman or Soror Yvette Darnaby, Co-Chairman, Founders Day reception. UNFINISHED BUSINESS NEW BUSINESS ANNOUNCEMENTS IFNV: Soror Hazel Cameron, President Soror Madeline Wingate-Alfonso presented upcoming events for the 2018 Debutante Cotillion. Orientation will be held Sunday, October 8, 2017, at the Lyceum Museum, from 2-4 PM. A Sponsorship Workshop was held before the October Chapter meeting. The 2018 Cotillion is scheduled for April 14, Soror Jennifer Hansborough presented information on the 2017 Luncheon Fashion Show, scheduled for Sunday, November 12, 2017, at the McLean Hilton. The committee is requesting assistance in obtaining patrons and sponsors for the annual Cooley-Moore Luncheon Fashion Show. Hostess signup sheets were distributed. Time and Place: The next General Membership meeting will be held on November 4, 2017, at Nannie J. Lee Center at 10:00 am. 5
