1 DATES: Monday Friday, June 12-16, 2017 PURPOSE: (1) To provide teachers with expanded content knowledge and laboratory/field experience in the area of aquatic and upland plant biology and ecology, with special emphasis on invasive plants. Participants will learn about and experience first hand, the impacts invasive plants are having on Florida s ecology and economy. (2) To inspire teachers to share their knowledge with students and colleagues. (3) Participants will learn new investigative techniques and instructional methods for teaching about aquatic and upland plants. LODGING: Springhill Suites by Marriott (352) SW 40 th Blvd. Gainesville, FL Arrive by 3 pm; Session starts at 3:30 pm Two teachers per room IMPORTANT: We have a busy schedule. Please be on time. Daily starting times vary; refer to agenda every day. Snacks, water and Gatorade will be provided. (If you need specific snacks or drinks, please bring them.) Please plan to attend the entire workshop (and arrive on time on the first day). We can only provide professional development points (PDP) and materials to participants who are here the entire time. If you need to cancel, for any reason, please let us know as soon as possible A FEW MORE DETAILS: o Hotel accommodations are reserved and the cost is covered for June 12-16; checkout is on the 16 th. You will be responsible for any incidental charges (room service, movies, etc.). o Meals: Dinner on your own Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (June 13, 14 and 15). All other meals are provided, thanks to our sponsors. o Transportation to field trip locations is provided. You are responsible for transportation to and from Gainesville. Potential soggy soils and tall grass. Skin protection (long-sleeve shirt or sunscreen) recommended. A hat and old shoes that can get damp/wet are a good idea. Wear open-toed shoes at your own risk, there are plenty of snakes in the area. For the airboat, lightweight outdoor wear is recommended along with skin protection. A hat and shoes that can get wet are a good idea.
