The exhibit is on view in Gates Garden Court Gallery. 1

2 DEBORAH BUTTERFIELD: THE NATURE OF HORSES May 23 October 18 The Gardens 2015 outdoor exhibition features Deborah Butterfield, an American sculptor renowned for her life-size horses that have been the subject of her work for more than 30 years. Sculptures are displayed throughout the Gardens York Street location. The works are made of cast bronze wood collected from many locations including Montana, Hawaii, Washington, Israel and Iceland. DEBORAH BUTTERFIELD EXHIBITION TOUR Saturday and Sunday, June 4, 5, 11, 12, 18, 18, 25 & 25, 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. $14, $7 member, includes Gardens admission This one-hour, docent-led tour explores the artist s inspiration, her artistic process and the role of horses in the West. Immerse yourself in artist Deborah Butterfield s world of horses. CURATOR CONVERSATIONS: DEBORAH BUTTERFIELD Thursday, July 9, 9-10 a.m. $17, $10 member Explore Deborah Butterfield s sculptures with the keen eye of a curator. This one-hour tour will deepen your understanding of the artist, her artistic development, and what went into developing the exhibit. Be prepared to walk away thinking about horses in a novel way. Embark on a journey of art and nature with the whole family to explore the Deborah Butterfield: The Nature of Horses exhibition. For families with children ages CLASSES AT YORK STREET SUMMERTIME TEA IN THE GARDENS Saturday, July 18, 10-11:30 a.m. $42, $38 member, includes food and tea The Gardens and Denver Tea Room present a beautiful morning of tea tasting and education in the serene Woodland Mosaic Gardens Solarium. Margo Seymour, pastry chef, tea sommelier and owner of Denver Tea Room, presents a traditional British afternoon tea service with a nod to the various cultures that also enjoy the practice of taking tea. Guests sample sandwiches from England, desserts from France and Scotland and teas from Sri Lanka. Fine china and linens are used. WATER-WISE LANDSCAPE PLANNING Saturday, July 25, 9 a.m. noon $50, $46 member, includes $5 materials 3

4 Learn how to begin planning a landscape better suited to a dry climate AND your needs. While low-water-use plants are great, they re only as good as how you use them. This class explains how to think through your landscape before you plant to insure success and a put-together look. It will help if you want to plant a landscape yourself or before hiring a designer/contractor to do the work for you. CANVASES AND COMPANY Thursday, July 23, 6-8:30 p.m. $47, $42 member, includes materials Enjoy an evening painting session inspired by the Gardens beautiful setting. Bring libations and snacks and we provide the canvas and materials. Come with your friends or meet new ones! Instructor Judith Scott has been teaching art for over thirty years and provides guidance. This event is open to all levels, including beginners. BONFILS-STANTON SERIES TRIP: BIG HORN MOUNTAINS IN WYOMING July $548 double occupancy, $728 single occupancy $498 member double occupancy, $678 single occupancy July is peak season for flowers throughout the Rockies, but never more so than in Wyoming and the Big Horn Mountains area. Cody, Wyoming is base of operations for the trip. Drive to the summit of the Bighorn Mountains and explore this area that is almost mythical for its wildflower displays. We ll also visit Beartooth Pass, which is one of America s most spectacular highways featuring spectacular montane, subalpine, and alpine flower displays that should be at peak bloom. This area also has a fen (specialized bog), where we will see rare boreal and artic plants at the southern edge of their range. Other highlights include a visit to the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody and the Meeteetse Chocolatier in Meeteetse, WY. ROCKY MOUNTAIN MUSHROOMS: ESSENTIAL PARTNERS FOR PLANTS Thursday, July 23, 7-8:30 p.m., 6 p.m. social hour with tastings from Slow Food Denver $20, $15 member Discover the beauty and uniqueness of native mushrooms found in Colorado s varied ecosystems. Come along with acclaimed mushroom expert Vera Evenson as she shares photos and provides a fascinating lecture about the ecosystems involved within the world of mushrooms, as well as how our plants and fungi interact with one another in nature. Unearth how ancient, enduring interactions are absolutely essential for the health of our plants, our ecosystems and our planet. MUSHROOM FORAGING Saturday 24, 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. $46, $42 member Head into the Rockies with wild mushroom enthusiast Michael Heim for a woodland mushroom foray to gain a firm handle on the foundations of mushroom identification as you locate a variety of medicinal and edible fungi growing in the wild. Discover mushroom anatomy and learn the tools for contrasting mushrooms that may be poisonous with those that may inspire a dinner party. TRIP: STEAMBOAT SPRINGS July 31 August 3 $506 double occupancy, $674 single occupancy $456 member double occupancy, $624 single occupancy Summer is the perfect time spend a long weekend in Steamboat Springs. Take a tour of the various hot springs and treat yourself to some relaxation time. The trip will also include visits to the Yampa River, one of Colorado s most scenic and wild rivers. Explore the Yampa River Botanic Park and meet with a local herbalist. See headwaters of the Yampa in the Flattops of southeastern Steamboat, as well as the Elk River. 4

This is a trail of contrasts--rocky Mountain vistas of the Continental Divide peaks, delicate floral treasures, ancient bristlecone pines, cold summit winds and gentle summer breezes. Mount Goliath docents lead the slow-paced hike down the stunning M. Walter Pesman Trail, a moderately difficult 1.5 mile downhill trek. POLLINATORS AND PLANTS TOUR Saturday, July 4, 11, 18 & a.m. $14, $7 member Plants have amazing ways of attracting their pollinators to get pollinated. Some methods are outright deceptive. Enjoy a stroll in the Gardens as a docent points out some of the fascinating ways (landing pads, nectar, fragrances) that plants use to beckon pollinators to obtain pollen. SEASONAL DISCOVERIES TOUR Saturday, July 4, 11, 18 & p.m. $14, $7 member No matter the time of year, botanical treasures await your discovery with these guided tours of gardens at their seasonal peaks. Experience the Gardens landscape at its best in the colorful bounty of summer. COLORADO CONNECTIONS TOUR Sunday, July 5, 12, 19 & 26, 5-6 p.m. $14, $7 memberunderstand the climate, beauty, ecology and horticulture of the Rocky Mountain region with a guided tour of iconic gardens and plants in the West. Gain practical knowledge about water-smart gardening and take a closer look at the science and contemporary issues surrounding Colorado plants. URBAN HOMESTEAD CLASSES FEEDING COMMUNITIES: AN INTRODUCTION TO URBAN FARMING 3 class series: Friday July 3, 10 & 17, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. $95, $85 member The Feeding Communities course provides an overview of the skills necessary to plan and manage an urban agriculture project ranging in size from a backyard garden to a multi-acre city lot. Included in this course are lessons on design, soil prep, tool usage, seed starting, pest and diseases, harvesting and next steps. All lessons are taught by professionals in the urban agriculture field. HEALTH & WELLNESS CLASSES MINDFULNESS SATURDAY: THE FIVE SENSES Saturday, June 6, 1-4 p.m. $50, $45 member This series of afternoon retreats focus on themes related to mindful living. Be guided in exercises to help you zero in on single-minded seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and feeling. When we bring mindfulness to sense perceptions, we experience each moment more vividly and feel more alive. This session is led by Dr. John Steele, Ph.D., licensed psychologist and registered yoga teacher. KUNDALINI YOGA Mondays, July 6, 13, 20 & 27, 6-7:30 p.m. $10, $8 member Instructor Chris Anne Coviello teaches Kundalini, the oldest form of yoga. All levels welcome. Participants are asked 5

SUNRISE VINYASA YOGA IN THE GARDENS Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 7, 9, 14, 16, 21, 23, 28 & 30, 8-9 a.m. $12, $10 member Instructor Blake Burger teaches vinyasa yoga against the stunning morning light in the Gardens. All levels welcome. Participants are asked to bring water and a yoga mat. EVENING VINYASA YOGA IN THE GARDENS Wednesdays, July 1, 8, 15, 22 & 29, 6-7 p.m. $12, $10 member Instructor Blake Burger teaches vinyasa yoga against the stunning backdrop of the Gardens. All levels welcome. Participants are asked to bring water and a yoga mat. RENEW: BODY, SOUL AND FOOD Saturday, July 11, 8-10:30 a.m. $24, $20 member The program begins before opening hours to experience the quiet Gardens during a one-hour vinyasa flow yoga class. Afterwards, enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and stroll around our market farm stand to purchase fresh fruits and vegetables grown at Chatfield. The program concludes with an introduction to meditation. VINYASA, VIOLINS AND VINO Tuesday, July 28, 6:30-8:30 pm. $18 Yoga with a twist. Enjoy vinyasa yoga, live violin music and a picnic! Relax in nature as Blake Burger, certified instructor and Gardens horticulturist, leads an hour-long class in the Gardens. Conclude the evening with a bringyour-own-picnic and music performance. Wine and beer is permitted. Please bring your own yoga mat, water, picnic and a beverage or adult beverage of your choosing. Must have valid ID if consuming alcohol. TIBETAN SINGING BOWLS CONCERT Monday or Tuesday, July 27 & 28, 6-8 p.m. $15, $12 member Denver yoga instructors and sounds healer Chris Anne Coviello and Jason Coviello perform together. The concert begins sounds of the Hang Drum, a rare steel drum. It is tuned to the note whose vibration corresponds to the heart chakra. Jason and Chris Anne then begin playing the singing bowls that are tuned to the musical notes that correspond to the different chakras to balance the energy in the body.
