Visitors under the age of ten can explore the mini-maze. Tickets include a hayride and unlimited jumping on a giant pillow. Pony and train rides are available for an additional fee. An array of food vendors sell favorite fall foods such as funnel cakes, hotdogs, freshly squeezed lemonade and kettle corn. FALL PLANT AND BULB SALE Friday, September 25, 9 a.m. 5 p.m. and Saturday, September 26, 9 a.m. 3 p.m. Free with Gardens admission Get a jump start on your spring garden at Fall Plant & Bulb Sale. Hundreds of bulbs and Grown at the Gardens plants are offered, along with expert advice from our horticulturists. It is best to arrive early, as supplies go fast. Please remember to bring your own wagon so you can stock up on all of your favorite plants. EXHIBITIONS DEBORAH BUTTERFIELD: THE NATURE OF HORSES May 23 October 18 The Gardens 2015 outdoor exhibition features Deborah Butterfield, an American sculptor renowned for her life-size horses that have been the subject of her work for more than 30 years. Sculptures are displayed throughout the Gardens York Street location. The works are made of cast bronze wood collected from many locations including 1
2 Montana, Hawaii, Washington, Israel and Iceland. DEBORAH BUTTERFIELD EXHIBITION TOUR Every Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. or 6 p.m. (no 6 p.m. tour Aug. 9 and 22) $14, $7 member, includes Gardens admission This one-hour, docent-led tour explores the artist s inspiration, her artistic process and the role of horses in the West. Immerse yourself in artist Deborah Butterfield s world of horses. WITHIN RANGE: PAINTINGS BY THEODORE WADDELL August 19 November 8 Theodore Waddell features cattle-scattered panoramas in his paintings. Influenced by time spent in New York in the 1960s, he combines elements of abstract expressionism with landscape to create a singular style. Organized in collaboration with Visions West Gallery. CHILDREN S AND FAMILY PROGRAMS DEBORAH BUTTERFIELD FAMILY EXHIBITION TOUR September 19 and 20, 10:30 a.m. $26 adult/child combo, $14 member combo, $7-$13 additional person Embark on a journey of art and nature with the whole family to explore the Deborah Butterfield: The Nature of Horses exhibition. Geared toward children (ages 4-12), the one-hour guided exploration provides opportunities for families to experience art in an inspiring and active way. HOMESCHOOL DAY: JOURNEY TO JAPAN Monday, September 21, 10 a.m. 2 p.m. $11 one child/adult combo, $6.50 additional person Journey to the land of the rising sun and discover the unique features of the Japanese Garden. Investigate bonsai, discover the art of Ikebana and create a miniature Japanese garden to take home with you. Homeschool Days offer families the opportunity to explore plant-based themes through a variety of hands-on activities, tours and take-home projects that families can do together. Activities are designed for children ages five and up, however all ages are welcome to attend. FAMILY FUN NIGHT: CAMPFIRE TALES Saturday, September 26, 5:30 p.m. $25, $20 member for family of four; $4, $3 member each additional person. Children two and under free. Gather around the campfire as we celebrate the end of summer. Make s mores, investigate signs of fall throughout the Children s Garden and plant a house plant to take home with you. Special guest storyteller Cliff Davidson will join us and share family friendly stories. Families are encouraged to bring a picnic dinner (no glass allowed). CLASSES AT YORK STREET CREATIVE CONDIMENTS: MAKE YOUR OWN Thursday, September 10, 6-8 p.m. $44, $39 member Discover how easy it is to make fresh, delicious and healthy condiments to add taste and pizazz to meals. From plum barbecue sauce and peach chutney to chimichurri and more, refill that refrigerator door with these zesty taste enhancers. Tastings and recipes included in this demonstration class. BEST FALL PLANTED BULBS FOR PERENNALIZING Saturday, September 12, 10 a.m. noon $31, $26 member Learn about the best bulbs and varieties for year after year of bloom. Whether for perennial beds or naturalized landscapes, you will learn planting and cultural tips for maintaining long life. Discussion includes how best to use bulbs and design considerations with other plants and elements in the landscape. VINES AND GROUNDCOVER Saturday, September 12, 2-5 p.m. $45, $40 member Vines and ground covers can add interest to walls and fences, and knit your garden together. Learn about the culture, care, features and limitations of vines and ground covers which are suited for the Front Range. PUTTING THE ROSE GARDEN TO BED Tuesday, September 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m. $32, $27 member Preparing your roses for winter is the key to growing those fabulous flowers in the spring. Learn why fall and winter care keeps your roses healthy from year to year and how to prepare new rose beds for spring planting. Get tips on early transplanting or rearranging the rose bed. A recommended list of roses that do well along the Front Range and higher altitudes will be included to take home. SENSATIONAL SALSAS, TAPENADES AND PESTOS Thursday, September 17, 6-8 p.m. $44, $39 member Create salsas using fresh fruits, herbs and veggies. Break out of the basil pesto rut and make combinations featuring herbs and greens. Learn how to make savory tapenades from olives, sun dried tomatoes and roasted peppers. Recipes and generous samples provided in this demonstration class. THE URBAN INDOOR GARDEN Saturday, September 19, 9:30 a.m. 12:30 p.m. $44, $36 member More and more apartment, condo and patio home dwellers are learning the many benefits of tending to something botanical and finding ways to overcome space and light challenges. This class discusses the art and science of houseplants, terrariums and dish gardens. Pests, diseases and cultural care are covered. The class concludes with a demonstration of building a terrarium and dish garden and repotting and taking cuttings from a houseplant. SUNRISE PHOTOGRAPHY AT THE GARDENS Saturday, September 26, 6-8:30 a.m. $41, $36 member Enter the Gardens before the sun and make beautiful images as the day breaks over our wonderful urban gardens. This is a full shooting class so bring your camera and tripod and we'll capture the beauty of the Colorado morning. AROUND THE WORLD WITH COFFEE Saturday, September 26, 10 a.m. noon $29, $26 member This class will be an introductory tour of coffees and their unique characteristics from places all over the world. We will discuss coffee growing and processing and how it relates to flavor distinctions. Coffee tastings included. 3
4 FERMENTATION BASICS: KIMCHI, KOMBUCHA & MORE Saturday, September 26, 2-4 p.m. $47, $42 member Fermentation is all the rage these days from house-made pickles to hot sauce and kombucha. Join Chef Elizabeth Buckingham for this delicious and informative class to learn basics of fermentation, its health benefits and how you can safely ferment at home. Generous food samples are served. INDIGO DYEING AT THE DYE GARDEN Saturday, September 12, 9:30 a.m. 3:30 p.m. $67, $62 member Learn about growing indigo plants, how to prepare leaves for dyeing and watch the magic of fabric turning indigo blue in a dye pot. You will learn two ways to prepare fresh indigo leaves for dyeing and go home with complete instructions along with dyed fabric samples. Bring a sack lunch. INTRODUCTINO TO WATER BATH CANNING Saturday, September 26, 9 a.m. noon $45, $42 member This hands-on class takes place in Chatfield s outdoor kitchen. Learn how to preserve fresh veggies with water bath canning. All participants take a home a gourmet jar of veggies. Please note this class is geared towards a beginning audience. Advanced techniques and pressure canning will not be discussed. BONFILS-STANTON SERIES LECTURE: SEED: THE FUTURE OF FOOD Thursday, September 10, 7-8:30 p.m., 6 p.m. social hour and tasting by Slow Food Denver $20, $15 member The added value, economic opportunity and social benefits of seed-saving are enormous. Rocky Mountain Seed Alliance s Bill McDorman inspires the audience to connect deeply with the world and begin to plant seeds wherever they are. WORKSHOP: SEED SCHOOL IN A DAY Friday, September 11, 9 a.m. 5:30 p.m. $95, $85 member The one-day workshop is aimed at shifting the seed paradigm back into the hands of our communities. This practical, hands-on program covers seed cultivation, harvesting, cleaning, marketing and distribution. HEALTH & WELLNESS CLASSES SUNRISE VINYASA YOGA IN THE GARDENS Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-9 a.m. $12, $10 member 4

MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION Thursday, September 17 or 24, 6-8:30 p.m., $25 The foundation of Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) is the cultivation of mindfulness clear, nonjudgmental attention to the present moment with regard to the ongoing experience of body, feelings, emotions and mind. MBSR studies reveal its power to reduce medical symptoms and psychological stress while enhancing the health and well-being of program participants. Various mindfulness tools are learned and practiced in a group context. VINYASA, VIOLINS AND VINO Thursday, September 17, 6:30-8:30 pm., $18 Yoga with a twist. Enjoy vinyasa yoga, live violin music and a picnic! Relax in nature as Blake Burger, certified instructor and Gardens horticulturist, leads an hour-long class in the Gardens. Conclude the evening with a bringyour-own-picnic and music performance. Wine and beer is permitted. Please bring your own yoga mat, water, picnic and a beverage or adult beverage of your choosing.
