6 GENERL The Purpose Of This Manual The pur pose of this man ual is to give a guide line how to de sign and plan an in stal la tion of the ServoMaster fire de tec tion sys tem Chap ter and 3 will de scribe the ba sic prin ci ples of the fire alarm panel and how to de sign the fire alarm panel ac cord ing to your needs Chap ter 4 through 7 de scribes how to con fig ure the de tec tion loops and how to plan the in stal la tion of the field equip ment sep a rate sheet is de liv ered with each unit con tain ing mount ing de scrip tion, di men - sions, con nec tions and tech ni cal data Definitions EN 54 Loop Collective loop ddressable loop Sensor ServoLN Local LN ServoMasterConfig European standard defining the function and environmental requirements of fire alarm equipment The wires where all sensors are connected loop system where it is not possible to individually identify each sensor In case of fire alarm it will not be possible to determine which sensor gave the alarm, only which loop loop system where all elements have its own separate address In case of fire alarm it is possible to individually identify each element unit connected to detection loop such as a detector, a call point, a local addressable buzzer, a fire door controller etc The internal RS485 communication bus used to communicate between the different modules in the ServoMaster system The internal communication bus used when output modules are connected directly to a main control unit within the same cabinet software tool for configuration and programming of the ServoMaster fire detection systems 3 Rules nd Regulations The fire alarm panel and all its com po nents have been tested ac cord ing to the EN 54 reg u - lations ny ap pli ca ble na tional reg u la tions have to be re spected ServoMaster Installation Manual Page 5

7 4 asic Principles For Planning The ServoMaster fire de tec tion sys tem is based on mod ules which makes the sys tem ex - tremely flex i ble The fire alarm panel can ei ther be de liv ered as a standalone unit or as a de cen tral ized sys tem where the dif fer ent mod ules are spread out in sev eral cab i nets The fol low ing fac tors de ter mine which sys tem con fig u ra tion is most prac ti cal: Laws, reg u la tions, guide lines Cus tomer re quire ments Size and type of building or ves sel Whether it is a new in stal la tion or a re place ment of an old sys tem Cost / ben e fit ra tio 5 ServoMasterConfig, Software Configuration Tool The ServoMasterConfig soft ware pro gram is a very use ful tool when de sign ing the fire alarm panel y us ing this tool it is pos si ble to con fig ure the whole fire alarm sys tem on a PC The soft - ware tool will cal cu late power con sump tion, bat tery backup re quire ments, etc The con fig u ra tion tool is also used to down load the sys tem con fig u ra tion into the fire alarm panel It is im por tant that the con fig u ra tion of the sys tem al ways is in ac cor dance with the ac tual in stal la tion ny changes in the in stal la tion must be re flected in the con fig u ra tion pro gram and be down loaded to the fire alarm panel The manual for this program can be ordered on CLI 8 Collective Loop Driver 6 The Loop Systems The main con trol units () can be de liv ered with driv ers for col lec tive or ad dress able loops The loop con trol lers are mounted on top of the mod ule There are two types of loop con trol lers: Mod ule CLI Loop con trol mod ule with 8 col lec tive loops Mod ule DLC Loop con trol mod ule with ad dress able loops One mod ule can con tain CLI mod ule (8 col lec tive loops) or DLC mod ules (4 ad dress able loops) It is pos si ble to ex tend the num ber of col lec tive loops by add ing col lec tive loop modules (CLM) on the LocalLan Each CLM mod ule con tains 8 col lec tive loops 3k3 3k3 3k3 3k3 3k3 3k3 3k3 3k3 DLC ddressable Loop Driver DLC ddressable Loop Driver 6 Collective loops The amount of sen sors con nected in a col lec tive loop should not ex ceed 3 Each loop must be ter mi nated with an 5k6 end-of-line re sis tor con nected in the base of the last sen sor in the loop In case of a fire, the fire alarm panel will in di cate in which loop the fire is de tected The fire alarm panel is not be able to de ter mine which sen sor the alarm is com ing from It is pos si ble to have a mix of smoke sen sors, heat sen sors and man ual call points in one loop Collective loop 5k6 ServoMaster Installation Manual Page

8 6 ddressable loops One ad dress able loop can con tain up to 7 sen sors Sen sors can be detectors, manual call points, fire door re lease units, address units, etc The ad dress able loop is formed as a -wire ring loop start ing and end ing in the fire alarm panel This two-wire line sup plies power to all ad dress able de vices, and also pro vides two-way data com mu ni ca tion be tween the panel and the de vices ll sen sors con nected to the ServoMaster ad dress able loops are self ad dress ing Dur ing the ini tial iza tion of the loops, each sen sor will be ad dressed ac cord ing to the place ment in the loop One loop may cover sev eral floors or decks since all con nected sen sors have short cir - cuit protection ddressable loop Shorted and broken loop protection ddressable device ddressable loop ll ad dress able de vices have two con nec tion ter mi nals for the pos i tive loop wires oth ter mi nals can act as both input and out put and thus com mu ni cate in di vid u ally or si mul ta - neously The in- and out go ing neg a tive wires are con nected to one com mon ter mi nal or two in ter con nected ter mi nals There is an elec tronic switch be tween the pos i tive ter mi nals con trolled by the ad dress able de vice The in ter nal switches in the ad dress able devices are ini tially in the open (iso lat ing) state when the fire alarm sys tem is started up The loop con trol ler will au to mat i cally go through a se quence of clos ing the switches one by one, and ver i fy ing the con ti nu ity of the pos i tive loop line af ter clos ing the switch of the last de vice in that loop ro ken loop The elec tri cal con ti nu ity of the ad dress able loop is con tin u ously mon i tored by the panel There will be a fault mes sage on the con trol panel s dis play if there is a break in ei ther wire or in both at the same time ll ad dress able de vices will re main op er a tional with a break in ei ther wire, or even with both wires bro ken at the same time, re gard less of the lo ca tion of the wire break Shorted loop If two loop lines are shorted to gether at any point in the loop, the loop volt age will drop to zero and the cur rent will be lim ited to a safe value The con trol panel will iden tify the short cir cuit con di tion and dis play a fault mes sage ll in ter nal switches will open and the panel will start re build ing the loop by clos ing the switches one by one un til the short cir cuited seg ment is reached short cir cuit con di tion will again be pres ent The panel will mem o rize the lo ca tion of the short and start re build ing the loop a sec ond time It will stop clos ing the iso la tors just be fore the shorted seg ment, and in stead con tinue the re build ing from the other end of the loop gain it will avoid the last and short cir - cuited seg ment ll ad dress able de vices will be re turned to nor mal op er a tion af ter the re build ing se quence is com pleted If there are two short cir cuits on the same loop, all de vices lo cated be tween the two shorts will be left non-op er a tional The panel will iden tify these de vices as faulty ServoMaster Installation Manual Page 7

9 7 Zone Numbers nd Zone ddresses ll sen sors con nected to ad dress able loops will be given an ad dress corresponding to the place ment in the loop The first sen sor (clos est to the / ter mi nals) will get the ad dress, the next ad dress and so on These ad dress num bers are only used dur ing the con fig u ra tion of the sys tem For later iden ti fi ca tion, all sen sors will be re ferred to as a zone num ber and a zone ad dress Dur ing the plan ning of the in stal la tion, the build ing or ves sel should be di vided into log i - cal ar eas or zones There can be up to 99 sen sors within one zone and each zone may con - tain sen sors from sev eral dif fer ent loops Each sen sor within each zone must be given an unique num ber from 0 to 99 The ad dress of the sen sor will be pre sented as a five digit zone ad dress: XXX YY The first three dig its rep re sent the zone num ber be tween 00 and 640 The two last dig its rep re sent the sen sor num ber 0-99 within the zone ZONE 00 ZONE 00 ZONE 003 ddressable loop ddressable loop Dur ing the con fig u ra tion of the sys tem, each zone can be de scribed with a 40 char ac ter text and each sen sor within the zone may also be de scribed with a 40 char ac ter text In the ex am ple below, all the sen sors are in the same zone Dur ing alarm they will all be de - scribed with the same zone text but dif fer ent lo ca tion de tails Zone no Detector no Zone text Zone Deck 3 MVZ Port Side Cabin Detector text 00 0 Deck 3 MVZ Port Side Cabin Deck 3 MVZ Port Side Corridor The zone iden ti fi ca tion is to tally in de pend ent from the ad dress num ber that rep re sent in which or der the sen sors are con nected on the loop One zone may only in clude sen sors from the same sub sys tem ServoMaster Installation Manual Page

10 4 4 C C MODULE DESCRIPTION The ServoMaster con cept in cludes a range of dif fer ent mod ules which are used to build up the sys tem ac cord ing to the cus tom ers needs E /4/8C, Main Control Unit The main con trol unit is a fire alarm controller without power sup ply, dis play or key - board ll ServoMaster fire alarm pan els must con tain at least one mod ule The mod ule can be de liv ered in three dif fer ent ver sions: for addressable loops (not available as expansion module) 4 for 4 addressable loops 8C for 8 collective loops Ex pan sion mod ules are de liv ered for TS35-rail mount ing The mod ules must be pow ered from a 8 VDC power sup ply and a 4 V backup battery The mod ule must be mounted in side a metal box to gether with power sup ply and bat tery Other mod ules may also be mounted in side the same box The op er at ing panel can be mounted on the box (com pact ver sion) or de liv ered separately (dis trib uted ver - sion) The mod ule has con nec tors for power, loops and alarms as shown in the ta ble be low Connectors for external equipment FUSES PS 50T TT 50T DH 0T 0T 0T CH 0T CH 0T Local LN / RSQ interface 6 CO TT PS DH 8 0 E NO C NC T RTN CHG NO FULT C NC NO FIRE C NC L L Charger voltage Do not readjust! 36 7 INSTLLTION 7 Planning ll ad dress able sen sors con nected to the ServoMaster fire alarm sys tem are self-ad dress - ing Due to the fact that none of these sen sors have to be man u ally ad dressed, the time needed for the in stal la tion should be re duced com pared to in stal la tion of tra di tional sys - tems When the loop is ini ti ated (pow ered up), all sen sors and ad dress units will be ad dressed ac - cord ing to the or der they have been con nected in the loop The ad dresses as signed dur ing the ini ti a tion will later be used for con fig ur ing the sys tem When the loop is mon i tored, the fire alarm panel will not iden tify the sen sors by their pre de fined ad dress, but by the or der they are con nected NOTE: It is of outmost importance that there is an exact match between the order of the sen - sors defined in the configuration program and the actual installation NOTE: The best way to achieve this is to fol low the in stal la tion draw ings with out any de vi a tions The ca bles should be pulled from sen sor to sen sor in the ex act or der as shown on the draw - ings In some cases the drawings may show impossible, difficult or unpractical cable routing This may require that the cables must be routed differently from the drawings In that case it is extremely important that the drawings are corrected ny added or removed sen sors must be reflected in the drawings The as-built drawings will be used as a basis for the configuration of the system If there is a mismatch between the drawings and the actual installation, the commission of the system will be difficult and time consuming efore the installation is started the following documentation should be available and checked: Installation drawings The draw ings must con tain the fol low ing in for ma tion: Place ment of all sen sors and ad dress units Type of sen sor or ad dress unit must be spec i fied Zone num ber and zone ad dress on all sen sors and ad dress units Ca ble rout ing (or der of sen sors) Data sheets for all sen sors, ad dress units, alarm de vices etc Make sure that all elec tri cians are fa mil iar with the equip ment and know how the dif - fer ent units should be con nected Panel draw ings show ing the ter mi na tion of all ca bles in side the panel cab i nets Draw ings show ing the in ter con nec tion be tween ex ter nal mod ules and the fire alarm pan els 7 Cabling 7 ddressable loop ddressable loop 7 6 The ad dress able loops are made as two wire ring loops, where the wires ex its the fire alarm panel on the ter mi nals () and (-) The loop re turns back to the panel on () and (-) ll sen sors and ad dress units must be con nected with cor rect po lar ity We there fore rec - om mend to check the ca ble cod ing or cable col ors and de cide which wire will be used as () and () Make sure that all electricians are aware of the coding The com mu ni ca tion be tween the fire alarm panel and any ex ter nal mod ules are done via RS485 com mu ni ca tion buses (CH and CH) The RS485 is a four wire bus (4V,, D and D-) It is im por tant to make sure that the com mu ni ca tion wires are con nected cor rectly be fore the panel is pow ered up Warning! Sensor labeling The build ing or ves sel is di vided into log i cal ar eas or zones dur ing the plan ning of the in - stal la tion ll sen sors within each zone are given a spe cific ad dress num ber (ref sec tion 7) This num ber is called the zone ad dress The zone ad dress is a given num ber and the ad dress does not nec es sar ily have any re la tion to the or der of the sen sors on the loop The zone ad dress is a five digit num ber XXX YY, Where XXX is the zone num ber and YY is the sen sor number ll sen sors, man ual call points and ad dress units should be la beled with this 5 digit num - ber This is usu ally done by at tach ing a small sticker on the sen sor base The la bel should be vis i ble from the floor level ServoMaster Installation Manual Page

53 e aware that the com mis sion ing tool is not able to down load the mod i fied con fig u ra tion files Exit the com mis sion ing soft ware and use the ServoMaster link pro gram to down load the mod i fied pro ject file, see sec tion 8 86 Detector Test If the Loop ver i fi ca tion has been car ried out thor oughly, the de tec tor test de scribed in this chap ter could be can celed We do strongly rec om mend do ing a spot check of ran domly cho sen sen sors This test is nor mally car ried out with rep re sen ta tives from the own ers and the class The num ber of sen sors to be tested must be agreed with those rep re sen ta tives Our rec om men - da tions would be approx 0% of the in stal la tion Dur ing the test each of the cho sen sen sors should be ac ti vated Use bot tled test gas for the smoke sen sors and a heat gun or hair dryer for the heat sen sors (e care ful not to over heat) The man ual call points can be tested with a spe cial key tool Dur ing each test, the fol low ing should be checked: the fire LED on the front panel start flash ing the in ter nal buzzer is ac ti vated the text shown in the dis play of the fire alarm panel cor re sponds with the lo ca tion of the detector the zone ad dress on the de tec tor la bel cor re sponds with the zone ad dress shown in the dis play and on the draw ings If the fire alarm is con nected to a mimic panel, a video graphic sys tem, a pag ing sys tem or a tele phone sys tem, the re sponse on these sys tems should be checked for all the test alarms If the fire alarm sys tem is used to mon i tor the sta tus of fire doors and fire damp ers, ev - ery sin gle fire door and fire damper should be opened and closed man u ally to check the cor rect re sponse on the sys tem The sta tus is nor mally shown on a mimic panel or a video graphic sys tem 87 Output Test Nor mally the fire alarm sys tem have out puts to con trol alarm sound ers, P sys tems, fire doors, fire damp ers, ven ti la tion sys tems and so on It is very im por tant that these func tions are tested care fully We rec om mend to trig ger fire alarms in var i ous parts of the ves sel (at least in ac com - mo da tion and en gine room spaces) in or der to check the re sponse on the out lets If there are alarm bells or si rens con nected to the fire alarm panel, the sound level in the var i ous ar eas should be checked to be in ac cor dance with the reg u la tions If the fire alarm panel con trols the fire doors, it should be checked that all fire doors close prop erly when re leased from the panel 88 Panel Test e fore the fire alarm sys tem is handed over to the cus tomer, we rec om mend to per form a small panel test The fire alarm panel was thor oughly tested be fore it left the fac tory This test is rec om - mended to make sure that the panel has not been dam aged dur ing, trans por ta tion and in - stallation Select Test LEDs and LCD dis play from the panel's main te nance menu and con - firm by Enter Press and hold the LED Test key Ver ify that all LEDs on the op er a tor panel are lit and that the sounder is ac tive If a mimic panel is in stalled, all LEDs should be lit Press and hold the LCD Test key Ver ify that all pix els are al ter nat ing be tween black and white ServoMaster Installation Manual Page

54 4 C E Charging voltage adjust 66-76V Press the ack key to re turn to the Main te nance menu Press all keys on the front panel one by one Check that a short beep is heard for each key Re move one sen sor from its de tec tor base Check for cor rect fault warn ing Loosen one of the ca bles in side a de tec tor base The panel should give a bro ken wire fault warn ing Make a short cir cuit be tween the plus and the mi nus wire in side a de tec tor base The panel should give a fault warn ing in di cat ing the short cir cuit Mea sure the bat tery volt age The volt age should be be tween 66Vand 76Vwhen fully charged at 0-5 o C Re move the bat tery fuse Check for bat tery fault warning Re move the 3 sup ply to the power sup ply Check for fault warning in the pri mary sup ply Use a 50 Ohm re sis tor to make a con nec tion be tween TT or and ground Check for earth fault warning In spect the panel for loose screws, scratches and me chan i cal dam age Dur ing this fi nal test it is al ways wise to give the crew a small in tro duc tion how to op er ate the sys tem They should at least know how to read out alarms, how to si lence the alarms and how to ac cept alarms 89 Yearly Testing nd Servicing The com plete fire alarm sys tem (panel, de tec tors, alarm bells/si rens and con trol func tions) should be tested at least once a year by ap proved per son nel The test is per formed as fol - lows : Per form the LEDs and LCD dis play test, see sec tion 83 Check that all lamps on the front panel are lit Press all keys on the front panel, one by one, and check that a short beep is heard for each keystroke Check that all alarm bells op er ate cor rectly by ac ti vat ing a man ual call point Check all de tec tors vi su ally for faults Each detector has a self check system for fault condition which is indicated by a flashing lamp on the detector (SSD53/5 with Hz and UTD53/5 with 0 Hz) ll manual call points and detectors in each zone must be inspected c ti vate at least one de tec tor or man ual call point in each zone and loop Check that all control functions operate correctly Check the fault warn ing by re mov ing one de tec tor head from its base in each zone Check the bat tery charg ing volt age at the TT ter mi nals The charging voltage is temperature controlled and should not be adjusted as long as it is within the range 66V to 76V at 0 5 o C The bat ter ies must be re placed ev ery four years See de scrip tion in sec tion 93 Re plac ing bat ter ies The test is com plete The POWER LED is lit and the text "Nor mal op er a tion" is shown on the dis play If a non-re pair able fault is de tected, please con tact for qual i fied ser vice ServoMaster Installation Manual Page 53

55 80 Maintenance It is im por tant that the sys tem is al ways fully operative This can be en sured by care ful maintenance and regular tests The fol low ing op er a tions should be car ried out by a per son who is ap pointed and trained to be re spon si ble for the sys tem: 80 Panel En sure that the fire alarm panel is un dam aged and kept clean Make sure that the panel al ways is eas ily ac ces si ble 80 Sensors 05 m min c cu mu lat ing dust or paint in smoke and heat sen sors may cause false alarms If a sen sor is faulty, the LED on the smoke sen sor SSD 53/5 flashes at Hz and the heat sen sor UTD 53/5 flashes at 0 Hz Check the sensors at regular intervals and replace them with new as required Replace malfunctioning sensors as soon as possible See section 94 Make sure that fur nish ing and stor ing etc have not re duced the open space be neath the sen sors to less than 05 me ters If a bilge sen sor is con nected, check the mov able parts of the sen sor and the con nec tion box for cor ro sion of ter mi nals 803 Manual call points En sure that man ual call points are not painted over, dam aged or dusty Check the glass cov ers of all man ual call points Replace broken or removed glass covers immediately Make sure that all call points are vis i ble and eas ily ac ces si ble 804 larm units En sure that all alarm bells, si rens, and alarm lights are un dam aged and clean Test them reg u larly 805 Function test ll com po nents must be in or der before the func tion test com mences Refer to section 83, 'Functional test' ServoMaster Installation Manual Page

56 4 C 9 FULT FINDING FULT SYSTEM FULT ny faults must be cor rected im me di ately Use the fol low ing pro ce dures for lo cat ing and cor rect ing faults: 9 System fault The fire alarm panel is non-func tional! The FULT and/or SYSTEM FULT indicators are lit Take immediately contact with the manufacturer or his representative for repair PS 5 T TT 5 T TT PS E 9 Supply fault Check the sup ply volt age at the PS ter mi nals U = 8VDC Check the sup ply fuse (PS) 50 T (5x0mm) and the sup ply ca bles to the panel If these points are in or der, the fault may be in ter nal, and the cir cuit board must be re - placed If the panel is supplied from an external 4 VDC supply through a CCU00 DC/DC converter, check the converter input voltage (-8 VDC) and the converter output 66-76V 8V voltage (nominally 3 VDC) See CCU00 description section 6 93 attery fault Check the charg ing volt age at the bat tery poles it should be within the range of 66 to 76 Volts Check the bat tery fuse (TT) 50 T (5x0mm) and the bat tery ca bles in the panel If these are in or der, the fault may be in ter nal and the cir cuit board must be re placed NOTE! 93 Replacing the batteries Open the panel front by re mov ing the four bolts Dis con nect the power sup ply ca bles from the PS in let and re move all wires from the bat tery poles Ob serve and note the col ors and po si tions of the wires! Re move the bat tery bracket by re mov ing the screws and spring wash ers (use a mag - netic screw driver), and lift the com plete unit with bat ter ies out of the cab i net e care ful not to short cir cuit the bat ter ies! In stall the new bat ter ies into the bat tery bracket with the poles point ing out wards and to wards the cab i net bot tom Fas ten the com plete unit in the cab i net with screws and spring wash ers e care ful not to short cir cuit the bat ter ies! Con nect the bat tery poles ex actly as noted Re con nect power sup ply ca bles Press the Menu <> larm but ton and en ter the ac cess code (if valid) Select the Main te nance menu and Test LEDs and LCD Ver ify that all LEDs are lit Mount the panel front by plac ing the front on the cab i net and fas ten it with the bolts 94 Sensor fault fault in a sen sor is shown on the dis play as a fault warn ing with sen sor ad dress (five dig - its) and a text stat ing the lo ca tion ServoMaster Installation Manual Page 55

57 4 C C Remove the sensor (detector / manual call point / addressing unit) and insert / mount a new one Reset the panel and check the function of the sensor 94 Replacing sensors faulty sen sor on an ad dress able loop can be changed while the loop is ac tive Re move the faulty sen sor from its base by turn ing the sen sor coun ter clock wise In sert a new sen sor within 40 sec to avoid fault warn ing, Miss ing sen sor Wait 3-5 sec for the red sen sor in di ca tor light The light will be on for -3 sec while the sen sor is au to mat i cally con fig ured The sen sor is now con fig ured and rec og nized by the sys tem and put into ser vice For mass re place ment of sen sors, con tact the ser vice re spon si ble DH T T T 6 TT 8 0 E - DH - - L L DH - - E 95 Ground Fault ground fault is likely to oc cur out side the panel The fol low ing method of elim i na tion is used to lo cate the fault: One or more of the fol low ing ca bles may have a re sis tance less than kω to ground: at tery pole (TT) or Loop ca bles (L-4) or larm bell out let (-) or Door hold out let (DH-) or larm in put (IP-) Re move the wires for De tec tion loop (L) and press cknowledge If the fault dis - ap pears, the faulty out let is found IP IP IP IP L4 L3 Re peat for Loop, 3 and 4 (L/3/4), Input and (IP-), larm bells and (/), and Door Hold (DH) If these are in or der, the fault may be in ter nal, and the cir cuit board must be re placed 96 larm ell Outlet Fault Check the T fuses and n alarm de vice con nected with wrong po lar ity will cause a fault in di ca tion Verify correct polarities Re move the alarm out let ca bles from the ter mi nals and Connect a 0 kohm resistor over the terminals and reset the panel If the fault reappears, the circuit board must be replaced If not, continue to next point Mea sure the cir cuit re sis tance and note the value Reverse the polarity and measure the resistance again The highest value is used If the measured re sis tance is more than kohms, there must be a break in the ca bles or a poor con nec tion If the re sis tance is less than 9 kohms there is prob a bly a short circuit ServoMaster Installation Manual Page
