3 Description: The PL140 Sump Liquid Sensor-Controller Kit consists of a DCS140 liquid float sensor and an MPC100 controller in an explosion proof housing as shown in Figure 1. Figure 1: PL140 Sump Liquid Sensor-Controller kit The PL140 controllers at a site constitute a peer-to-peer network of devices which can communicate with each other and with alarm displays, shut down their own dispenser or turbine motor, or other devices in the network. These capabilities are pre-programmed so that the devices simply need to be installed at a site in order to begin communicating. Alarms generated by the PL140 powerline sensor-controller kit can be displayed locally with the PL-1 or PLS-10 alarm displays as shown in Figure 2. The PL-1 displays a visible and audible alarm notification when liquid is detected in any location at a site, while the PLS-10 displays sensor status by location for up to 10 sensors at a site.

4 Figure 2: PL-1 (left) and PLS-10 (right) Alarm Displays Another option for alarm display is the ILON-PL-1 remote notification unit, shown in Figure 3. The ILON-PL-1 can be accessed remotely for sensor status, and can also be set up to generate notifications. Figure 3: ILON-PL-1 Remote Notification Unit

5 Installation: PL-1/PLS-10 Alarm Display or ILON-PL-1 Remote Notification Unit: The PL-1or PLS-10 Alarm Display unit should be located inside the station with access to 110 VAC power, in a location where the audible and visual alarm will be noticed. The Alarm Display unit must be connected to power in accordance with local electrical codes. The ILON-PL-1 Remote Notification Unit should be located inside the station with access to 110 VAC power and to an Ethernet router. Mount the unit inside a NEMA approved housing and connect power to locations 1 (Ground), 3 (Neutral) and 4 (Load) in the red box shown in Figure 2 on the previous page. Use CAT5 cable to connect the unit to the Ethernet router. DCS140 Liquid Float Sensor: The DCS140 sensor should be positioned so that the sensor is at the lowest point in the containment sump (see Figure 4). 6 MPC100 Controller: Caution: Disconnect power before servicing. Mount the MPC100 controller to the junction box inside the containment sump. Wire the MPC100 controller per Figure 5 for 110VAC typical dispenser installation or Figure 6 for 220VAC typical turbine motor installation. 7 Figure 6: Wiring Diagram for Typical 220VAC Turbine Motor Installation Plug the DCS140 sensor into the MPC100 controller. Restore power to the dispenser.

8 Operation: For the PL-1/PLS-10 Alarm Displays, when a sensor goes into alarm a visible and audible alarm will be generated. These alarms will remain activated until the sensor returns to normal status, although the audible alarm may be turned off by flipping the Alarm Silence position to the off position. At this time, the technician should verify that the Alarm Silence switch is returned back to the on position. For the ILON-PL-1 Remote Notification Unit, access the unit with a PC and Ethernet cable and navigate to the sensor status web page to verify that an alarm generates for that location. Testing: Both the DCS140L and DCS140NL sensors can be tested for proper operation by placing the sensor into a bucket and adding liquid until the sensor goes into alarm. Verify shutdown of the associated dispenser or turbine, if the system is programmed for shutdown. Alternatively, use one of the alarm display options to verify alarm status, as discussed above. Resetting: The DCS140L will need to be reset by placing the supplied reset tool through the small hole located at the top of the sensor, until the float is released (see Figure 7). The reset tool must be removed from the hole for the sensor to operate properly. Figure 7: DCS140L Sensor Reset Tool
