2 Chairman s Message I have great pleasure in inviting delegates to the 28th IISSM Annual Global Conclave on Security, Safety, Fire and Loss Prevention to be held from 28th to 30th November 2018 at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. Security and Safety functions are increasingly becoming highly crucial and vulnerable to the management of businesses, industry and other commercial enterprises. The IISSM Annual Conclaves use state of the art tools for learning, up-gradation and self renewal of the practicing security and safety professionals. All inputs are imparted only through the medium of panelists-participants discussions involving specially handpicked domain experts and key note speakers including foreign faculty. Over the years this professionally organised event has gained immense popularity among Safety, Security and Loss Prevention professionals from India and abroad. The Conclave discussions have extensive coverage spanning conventional and contemporary themes including challenges of social media and data privacy, growth in Healthcare, Hospitality and Retail Sectors and Security/Safety imperatives in Smart Cities. 3 Executive Chairman s Message My Dear IISSM Members and Stakeholders, remains at their core. I welcome all the delegates and stakeholders to this year's Global Conclave being held in New Delhi. Be it business or industry their security and safety cannot do without digital technology. The banking sector is vulnerable to fraudulent transactions, hacking of accounts of internet banking and cloning of debit and credit cards. Though we have taken safeguards against it, a lot more needs to be done in this eld. Nothing is secure in this world. However, Security and Safety are of paramount importance to peace and prosperity. Recently, the super oods in Kerala destroyed public infrastructure and private property worth crores of rupees apart from claiming hundreds of precious lives. Similarly, the very recent earthquake & the Sulawesi Tsunami in Indonesia claimed 2000 lives and destroyed property worth billions of dollars. The message is, no matter how developed and advanced a nation is we have to be prepared to face seemingly insurmountable challenges and take such preparatory action as to mitigate damage to property and to safeguard the lives of our citizens. However, a good planning regular monitoring and preparedness can certainly minimize the impact of any disaster and help in recovering in the minimum possible time. Friends, the overall theme of this year's Global Conclave is SECURITY, SAFETY, FIRE AND LOSS PREVENTION. While the concepts of security and safety have gone beyond manual protection to factories, industries, monuments, public places and protection to individuals, manual guarding of vital assets and protecting lives For a secured business environment, electronic gadgets, digitized measures should have matching support of human skills and expertise. Drones are useful in keeping vigil over a premise from above. CCTV cameras are in use today. But there is and there will be no substitute for human intelligence in making this world more secure and safe in face of any challenge, natural or man-made. I am con dent that these huge problems can and will be surmounted by introducing new and innovative ideas to the areas of security and safety and introducing advanced digital and other technologies to help our efforts to save lives and protect vital assets. In this light I hope that your deliberations during this conclave will add to our knowledge base in these areas and help formulate new strategies that will be more effective and more ef cient.
