1 SAFETY GUIDELINES IN ANY EMERGENCY ALWAYS CALL 911 FIRST ENTERPRISE SQUARE SECURITY CAN BE REACHED AT

2 Fire Alarm If you discover fire or smoke: 1. Sound the alarm by pulling the closest area alarm box. 2. Immediately evacuate the area and the building, proceeding to your designated musterpoint. Do not attempt to extinguish the fire. ENTERPRISE SQUARE and 102 St. CENTRE (Manulife classrooms) are separate buildings and have different evacuation procedures and muster points (see below). An alarm in either Enterprise Square or 102 St. Centre will trigger fire-doors to drop at the pedway, and access between buildings will be cut off. If the fire alarm sounds in Enterprise Square Classrooms included: 2-167, 2-173, all Concourse-level classrooms. 1. Faculty of Extension policy requires that you immediately evacuate the building using your nearest fire-exit stairwell. DO NOT use pedways. 2. YOU MUST EVACUATE WITH YOUR CLASS AND REMAIN TOGETHER AS ONE GROUP. You are expected to follow your instructor at all times. 3. Continue evacuating even if the alarm stops ringing. Do not attempt to re-enter the building or return to your classroom. 4. Proceed to the designated muster-point, the underground pedway tunnel in the Bay/Enterprise Square LRT station (see map on page 3). This tunnel is on the same level as the ETS ticket-dispensers, one level above the LRT platform. In a building evacuation situation the LRT pedway tunnel MUST be entered from the sidewalk entrances. You cannot use the Atrium escalator to get into the LRT station, as Concourse-level access will be cut off by roll-down fire doors. Everyone must exit Enterprise Square and use a sidewalk LRT entrance. Depending on your exit-point, Paladin Security will direct you along one of two new evacuation routes (see map on page 3): EVACUATION ROUTE A: Exit from the South or West side of Enterprise Square (onto 103 St. or Jasper Ave.) use the sidewalk LRT entrance closest to Enterprise Square. EVACUATION ROUTE B: Exit from the East side of Enterprise Square (onto 102 St., close to Tim Horton s), cross Jasper Ave., walk 1 block west and use the sidewalk LRT entrance closest to Canadian Western Bank Place. 1

3 5. Upon arrival at the muster point, IMMEDIATELY REPORT ANY MISSING STUDENTS TO YOUR INSTRUCTOR, A FIRE WARDEN OR A SECURITY OFFICER. 6. Follow any instructions given by Fire Wardens or Security officers 7. Remain at the muster point until given alternate instructions by the Chief Fire Warden or Security officers. 8. When the all-clear signal has been given by the Chief Fire Warden or a Security officer, return directly to your classroom. PERSONS WITH MOBILITY DIFFICULTIES When the fire alarm sounds in Enterprise Square, elevators and escalators are automatically deactivated. When EVACUATING FROM THE CONCOURSE OR 2 ND FLOOR, persons with mobility difficulties who cannot use staircases should proceed immediately to the elevator bay for assistance from Security. DO NOT use the elevator. Ask your instructor to inform Security of your location, or telephone Security yourself at (780) Fire Department personnel will proceed to your location immediately upon their arrival. After leaving Enterprise Square, anyone unable to use LRT staircases should use Evacuation Route A, regardless of their exit-point, in order to access the LRT elevator and descend to the pedway tunnel level. Then, follow steps 6-8, above. Any student with difficulties that may prevent them from using staircases during an evacuation should inform their instructor! See map on following page 2

5 If the fire alarm sounds in 102 St. Centre Classrooms included: 2-901, 2-907, 2-916, 2-917, 2-922, 2-923, 2-926, 2-938, 2-948, 2-957, 2-958, 2-970, Faculty of Extension policy requires that you immediately evacuate the building using your nearest fire-exit stairwell. DO NOT use pedways unless you or a student has mobility difficulties (see below). 2. YOU MUST EVACUATE WITH YOUR CLASS AND REMAIN TOGETHER AS ONE GROUP. You are expected to follow your instructor at all times. 3. Continue evacuating even if the alarm stops ringing. Do not attempt to re-enter the building or return to your classroom. 4. Proceed to the designated muster-point, the Extension Gallery space in the Atrium of Enterprise Square (see map on following page). As automatic fire-doors will block indoor access, you must use fire exits stairwells to exit 102 St. Centre onto 102 St. or 103 St. sidewalks and re-enter Enterprise Square from outdoors (see map below). 5. DO NOT block access to the building by congregating near any doors. 6. Follow any instructions given by Fire Wardens or Security officers. 7. Remain at the muster point until given alternate instructions by the Chief Fire Warden or Security officers. 8. When the all-clear signal has been given by the Chief Fire Warden or a Security officer, return to your classroom. PERSONS WITH MOBILITY DIFFICULTIES should use pedways to evacuate to Enbridge Place or Manulife Place (see map below). If possible, have another student accompany you. If possible, telephone Security at (780) to notify them of your location. Any student with difficulties that may prevent them from using staircases during an evacuation should inform their instructor! See map on following page 4

7 Medical Emergency If someone becomes ill or is injured and requires emergency medical assistance: 1) Call ) DO NOT LEAVE THE INJURED PERSON ALONE. Call or send a runner to inform Enterprise Square security ( ). 3) Unless you are trained, do not attempt to render first aid assistance before trained responders arrive. (EXCEPTION: Sudden Cardiac Arrest see below.) 4) Do not attempt to move an injured person unless they are in immediate danger. 5) Comfort the person with reassurances and try to limits others entering the area. 6) Send someone to meet the medical responders. 7) Practice precaution try to protect yourself from blood and bodily fluids that may be present. 8) Remain to provide information to the emergency medical responders and provide assistance if required. 9) Notify the Dean s Office when time permits. In case of Sudden Cardiac Arrest Automated External Defibrillators (AED) may be used by anyone, no training necessary, to deliver electrical stimulation and increase chances of survival until first responders arrive. There are two AEDs at Extension: Security desk in Enterprise Square Atrium Student Lounge area in 102 St. Centre 6

8 Suspicious Person / Unusual Behaviour 1. Be aware of what is going on around you at all times. 2. If you are concerned, call Enterprise Square security at or visit the Security Desk in the Atrium. 7

9 Security Services and Safety Escort The Enterprise Square Security Desk is staffed by Paladin Security. This is a 24 hour on-site security presence. The Security Desk is located on the main floor of Enterprise Square just east of the Registration Desk. You can also contact security by calling Enterprise Square has approximately 30 cameras located in hallways, entrances and exits for additional safety. Scheduling a Safety Escort Paladin Security staff will escort students from the main lobby between 6:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., weekdays and anytime on weekends. This service is available for a one- block radius of the Enterprise Square Campus, but arrangements can be made with security staff in other buildings if needed. Escort can be arranged at the Security Desk on the main floor or by phone. An escort will be provided at the time of the request, no prior arrangements are necessary. 8
