SHEVS Control Centre RWZ d. Putting the equipment into and out of service Only skilled personnel are permitted to work on the Control Centre! Before starting any work, be sure to eliminate any static charges (e.g. by touching the metal of a central heating)! Defects due to faulty connection will not be covered by our warranty or liability. Planning and installation of SHEVS is subject to compliance with the following regulations, as far as applicable: national building codes / model building code and regulations of the local building and fire authorities, VDE codes, esp. VDE 000, 008 and 08, VdS guidelines 098 and, DIN 8 or DIN EN 0, DIN 0, model guidelines for cable and pipe installation, safety guidelines BGI 9 and BGR.. Installation / putting the equipment into service Be sure the Control Centre is deenergised before performing any work! Be sure actuators are not operated by an external power supply (e.g. external accumulators) when already connected to the Control Centre. Otherwise, this may cause defects at the power output of the Control Centre. For wiring the Control Centre, follow the information given in the attached terminal diagrams. Turn on the line voltage. LED Malfunction-Power Supply flashes. Place the accumulators into the enclosure. Connect them as shown in the wiring diagram Line voltage and accumulators. LEDs lights up, LED Malfunction-Power Supply goes out, the equipment is ready for operation. Should a malfunction status continue to be shown, check the wiring. For this purpose, refer to Section (Fault finding / troubleshooting). If necessary, the Control Centre has to be deactivated again (see.). When putting the equipment into service, check all functions and status indications of the Control Centre and its components. The individual functions are described in Section (also simulate malfunctions and check whether they are reliably detected; see.). After about h of continuous operation, the accumulators will be sufficiently charged to ensure the standby time of 7 hours in the event of mains failure.. Putting the equipment out of service Disconnect accumulators from Control Centre (e.g. by removing the connection line to the accumulators). Accumulators can be stored approx. months. If stored longer, they have to be recharged. Turn off the line voltage.. Functions and operation Before operating or touching the control elements within the Control Centre, be sure to have eliminated any static charges (e.g. by touching the case)!. Alarm functions While executing an alarm function, the ventilation functions are blocked. At Control Centres with two RWA groups (RWZ..), the following description is likewise applicable to the second group. Alarm function: When an alarm is detected, the actuators of the SHE group will OPEN, and red LEDs Alarm show the alarm condition. Main alarm points with buzzer (RT --AA) will emit a continuous tone. For further alarm functions ( Malfunction = Alarm, Auto Close etc.) see., potential-free contacts (option PK) see.8, external warning devices (Option WTM) see.9. If upon reset of an alarm a closing action proceeds due to operation of button, manual ventilation will be possible only after up to minutes... Activating and resetting the SHE hand-operated fire alarm buttons When an alarm button is pressed, the LEDs Alarm of the hand operated fire alarms and of the Control Centre will light up. The alarm function will be executed as described in Section.. Page

SHEVS Control Centre RWZ d For reset, press the button Reset in a main alarm point or in the Control Centre. When releasing the button, the LEDs Alarm go out and the buzzer will be deactivated... Activating and resetting the automatic fire detectors When an automatic fire detector responds, the LEDs Alarm of the fire alarm buttons, of the Control Centre and of the active detector will light up. The alarm function will be executed as described in Section.. For reset, press the button Reset in a main alarm point or in the Control Centre. When releasing the button, the LEDs Alarm will go out and the buzzer will be deactivated. Should an automatic fire detector respond again, repeat the reset procedure (response may be due to smoke particles still remaining in the detector)... Activating and resetting the alarm by Fire Alarm Control Panel (FACP) If an alarm is given by the FACP, it will be released in all groups of the Control Centre. The LEDs Alarm of all fire alarm buttons and of the Control Centre will light up. The alarm function will be executed as described in Section.. Resetting the alarm will be done at the FACP. If no more alarm is present (if necessary, press the button Reset ), the LEDs Alarm will go out and the buzzer will be deactivated... Repetition of OPEN cycle in the case of alarm To ensure reliable opening of the actuators when an alarm has been activated, even in adverse circumstances (e.g. when seals are icy), the OPEN command will remain in the following repetition cycle for a period of 0 minutes: actuators move for minutes in OPEN direction, briefly in CLOSE direction and then for minutes again in OPEN direction, and so forth.. Status lights / functions of the SHE hand-operated fire alarm buttons For activating and resetting an alarm, see... Status light (green LED, main alarm point RT --BS) indicates: Troublefree operation. As soon as a malfunction is detected, this light will go out. Status light (red LED, all RT ) indicates: Alarm. Status light (yellow LED, main alarm point RT --BS) indicates: Malfunction (see also.). Red button Reset at main alarm points RT --BS serves to reset the alarm function. Main alarm points with indication of position OPEN (RT --BS-A): Status light (yellow LED) lights up, as soon as a travelling command in direction OPEN has been activated. If a travelling command in direction CLOSE has been active for the same length of time, the light will extinguish. Main alarm points with buzzer for indication of alarm and malfunction (RT --BS-AA): In the case of an alarm, the buzzer will emit a steady tone, while in the case of malfunction, an intermittent tone will be given. Yellow button Reset serves to deactivate the warning tone.. Status lights / control elements in Control Centre and in enclosure door Status lights in the enclosure door: Status lights, and in the enclosure door have the same function as the lights of the main alarm point (see.). Status lights on main board: Status light indicates: Troublefree Operation. When a fault is detected, this light will go out. Status light indicates: Malfunction-Power Supply (see also.). Status light indicates: Alarm (in RWZ.. provided separately for both SHE groups). Status light indicates: Malfunction Actuator / Signal Line (see also.). In RWZ.. light is provided separately for both RWA groups. Status lights / indicate active travelling commands in OPEN or CLOSE direction; they are provided separately for both ventilation groups. Page

SHEVS Control Centre RWZ d Button Reset (reset alarm): Red button Reset serves to reset the alarm function (see.). At Control Centres with two SHE groups (RWZ..), button will control both groups at the same time. Button Reset / (Reset Warning Tone / Timer): Yellow button Reset serves to deactivate the warning tone. Function Reset has been provided for installation and maintenance purposes only (see.). Potentiometer (ventilation position): see.. Potentiometer (ventilation time): see... DIP switches for setting of functions Auto Close DIP switch S- (first ventilation group) and S- (second ventilation group): In position ON, the actuators will be automatically closed upon reset of a present alarm. Once this function has responded, indoor ventilation will not be possible for up to. Factory setting: ON (automatic closing activated). Malfunction = Alarm DIP switch S- (first SHE group) und S- (second SHE group): In position ON, the alarm function proceeds as described in Section. if a malfunction is present in a signal line. After clearance of the fault, the alarm will be reset by pressing the button Reset at a main alarm point or at the Control Centre. Factory setting: OFF (no alarm in the case of malfunction). Thermal Alarm DIP switch S-: In position ON, an alarm will be triggered as soon as the enclosure inside temperature rises over 70 C. Factory setting: OFF (no triggering of alarm at temperature rise over 70 C). One ventilation group DIP switch S- and S-: In position ON, both ventilation groups will be controlled at the same time when pressing the ventilation buttons. Stroke limitation and Auto Close remain adjustable separately. Factory setting: OFF (ventilation functions separated for both groups). Travelling time min DIP switch S- (first ventilation group ) and S- (second ventilation group): In position ON, travelling commands for the actuators will be deactivated after minutes only. Factory setting: OFF (deactivation after minutes).. Ventilation functions When executing the ventilation functions, be sure not to exceed the rated duty cycle of the actuators. The two ventilation groups can be controlled either separately, or at the same time by activation of the function One ventilation group (see.)... Manual ventilation After briefly pressing a ventilation button ( / ), the actuators will travel up to their end positions or to the selected ventilation position (see..). If the button is pressed again, the actuators will stop. If the button is pressed for reverse sense of travel, the actuators will briefly stop and then reverse. If the button is pressed for a longer time (> s), the actuators will be travelling as long as the button remains pressed. This likewise permits actuator travel up to the end position or to the selected ventilation position (see..)... Setting / deactivation of ventilation position (stroke limitation) When stroke limitation is activated, the actuators operating in ventilation mode will not open beyond the desired ventilation position, determined by adjusting the travelling time in OPEN direction. Travelling times from to 0s or to 0s can be adjusted for this purpose (depending on total travelling time, see below). When the adjusted ventilation position is reached, there will be no response to pressing button. Actuators will fully open only in the case of alarm or deactivated function. Factory setting: stroke limitation is activated and set to approx. s. Page

SHEVS Control Centre RWZ d Activation / setting: Turn potentiometer P. (group ) or P. (group ) to adjust the ventilation position: Turning clockwise will increase the opening angle or deactivate the function. Turning counterclockwise will reduce the opening angle. Every time the setting has been changed, fully close the actuators using button. For precise setting, measure the opening time from the closed position to the desired ventilation position. Of a meter having a DC measuring range (V) up to V, connect (+) pole with measuring point MP. (group ) or MP. (group ) and the (-) pole with measuring point GND. Carefully turn potentiometer P. (group ) or P. (group ) for setting the appropriate value (see table): a) Actuators with total travelling time min (DIP switch S- / S- in position OFF) Opening time s 0s s 0s s 0s s 0s s 0s s 0s Setting P 0,V 0,V,0V,V,80V,9V,8V,97V,V,7V,V,V (Calculation of values: U = (t s) 0,078V/s) b) Actuators with total travelling time min (DIP switch S- / S- in position ON) Opening time 0s 0s 0s 0s 0s 0s 70s 80s 90s 00s 0s 0s Setting P 0,V 0,V,00V,8V,77V,V,,9V,0V,9V,07V,V (Calculation of values: U = (t s) 0,08V/s) Deactivation: Turn potentiometer P. (group ) or P. (group ) up to the right-hand end position to deactivate the function. After deactivating the function, fully close the actuators using button... Setting / deactivation of length of ventilation time (automatic closing upon ventilation) The function ventilation time has been factory deactivated. With this function activated, the actuators operating in ventilation mode will automatically close when the adjusted time ( to 0 minutes) has elapsed. Activation / setting: Turn potentiometer P. (group ) or P. (group ) to set the ventilation time: Turning clockwise will increase or deactivate the ventilation time. Turning counterclockwise will reduce the ventilation time. For precise setting, proceed as follows: Of a meter having a DC measuring range (V) up to V, connect the (+) pole with measuring point MP. (group ) or MP. (group ) and the (-) pole with measuring point GND. Carefully turn potentiometer P. (group ) or P. (group ) for setting the appropriate value (see table): Ventilation time min min 7min 8min 0min min min min min 7min 8min 0min Setting P 0,00V 0,V 0,V 0,9V,V,9V,8V,V,V,7V,0V,9V (Calculation of values: U = (t min) 0,V/min) Deactivation: Turn potentiometer P. (group ) or P. (grooup ) up to the right-hand end position to deactivate the ventilation time... Indication of position in ventilation button Status light lights up as soon as a travelling command in direction OPEN has been activated. If a travelling command in CLOSE direction has been active for the same time, the status light will go out... Blocking of ventilation If due to insufficient power reserves the accumulators are not likely to ensure the standby time of 7 hours, there will be no response to pressing the ventilation button. Closing by pressing ventilation button (or by an active WRC) is still possible. Indoor ventilation is possible again as soon as the accumulators have been sufficiently recharged. Blocking of ventilation does not affect an alarm... External Wind and Rain Control (WRC) Response of the Wind and Rain Control causes the equipment to automatically close. The ventilation functions remain disabled until enabled by the WRC again. An alarm will have priority. Page 7

SHEVS Control Centre RWZ d..7 Internal Wind and Rain Control (Option WRM) Response of the wind or rain sensor causes the equipment to close automatically. The yellow LED Wind or Rain on the module lights up. The ventilation functions remain disabled until enabled again by the wind and rain module. An alarm will have priority. The response thresholds of the sensors can be adjusted at the potentiometers for wind and rain on the module by means of a screwdriver: Turning clockwise will increase the sensitivity. Turning counterclockwise will reduce the sensitivity. Factory setting for both sensors is maximum sensitivity. Too low sensitivity settings may result in damage due to wind and rain, which will not be covered by our liability. The rain sensor, after having responded, will be heated. This enables the sensor surface to dry up more quickly once the rainfall is over, so that indoor ventilation may be resumed. Reduced sensitivity to wind DIP switch W:S-: In position ON, the Control will be less sensitive to gusts of wind. This setting does not affect the sensitivity to steady wind. This setting should only be used for sufficiently sturdy and rugged structures! Factory setting: OFF (normal sensitivity). Continuous heating of rain sensor DIP switch W:S-: In position ON, the rain sensor will be continuously heated at reduced power. This will prevent, for example, formation of dew in the morning, which would result in an activation of the sensor. If the sensor is activated by rain, the heating will operate at full power until the sensor is dry. Factory setting: OFF (heating is active only when sensor has responded).. Repetition of CLOSE cycle If an actuator overload protective function responds (e.g. due to gust of wind) during an automatic closing command (WRC, Auto Close, mains failure), the cycle can be repeated by briefly pressing ventilation button. The actuators will open for a short time; thereafter, the closing command will be activated again..7 Mains failure In the case of mains power failure the accumulators cannot be charged, but will supply the necessary power for a standby time of 7 hours. Mains power failure does not affect the alarm functions. Actuators in ventilation position will close, and there will be no response to ventilation button if pressed. Mains failure has to be cleared without delay, to avoid activation of the deep-discharge protection of the accumulators, to recharge them and thus ensure reliable operation of the equipment. Deep-discharge protection: In the case of critical condition of the accumulators, the complete Control Centre including status indications will be switched off. Please note that a low rest current (in addition to natural self-discharge) will still be flowing. Therefore the accumulators, if not recharged, are already in danger of being permanently damaged after a few days only..8 Potential-free contacts (PFC, option PK) PFC (PFC Alarm): The contact is activated when an alarm is detected. When the alarm has been reset, the contact will switch back into neutral position. PFC (PFC Malfunction): PFC Malfunction will be activated upon detection of a malfunction (see.). After clearance of the fault, the contact will switch back into neutral position..9 Outputs for controlling external warning devices (option WTM) The outputs for controlling external warning devices (such as multiple-tone sounder MS and strobe BL) will be activated as soon as an alarm has been detected. An early deactivation of output MS is possible by pressing an external reset button or pressing the yellow button Reset at the Control Centre or at main alarm points with buzzer. Resetting the alarm will automatically switch off the two outputs. Page 8

SHEVS Control Centre RWZ d Output MS upon malfunction DIP switch WT:S-: In position ON, the output for the multiple-tone sounder is activated on detection of a malfunction. When the fault has been cleared, the output will be automatically deactivated again. Factory setting: OFF (activation in case of alarm). Output BL upon malfunction DIP switch WT:S-: In position ON, the output for the strobe is activated on detection of a malfunction. When the fault has been cleared, the output will be automatically deactivated again. Factory setting: OFF (activation in case of alarm). Auto Reset DIP switches WT:S- and WT:S-: The output for the multiple-tone sounder will be automatically deactivated when the selected time has elapsed, even in the case of the alarm / malfunction still being present. For setting, please refer to the table beside. Factory setting: Both OFF (no automatic deactivation). Auto Reset DIP DIP deactivated OFF OFF after min OFF ON after min ON OFF after min ON ON Reset BL DIP switch WT:S-: In position ON, the output for the strobe will also be deactivated when Reset is pressed, or automatically deactivated according to the setting of the Auto Reset table. Factory setting: OFF (deactivation only after reset of alarm / clearance of fault).. Maintenance If no other relevant codes and regulations prevail, check all functions and indications of the Control Centre and its components at least once a year. This will also include checking the terminal points, connecting lines, indicators and fuses as well as cleaning various components where necessary. Check mounting brackets etc. for firm seating. Grease actuators and SHE Units (windows, domelights etc.) where necessary. For the individual functions of the Control Centre please refer to Section. Simulate malfunctions as well, and check whether they are reliably detected; see. Information about accumulators: Check the accumulators for proper function once a year and replace them every four years latest (observe date of installation / manufacture)! Instant method for checking the accumulators: Remove line fuse F. Voltage at the accumulator contacts will then be approx. - 7V. Activate the alarm function (open actuators). During opening, the voltage at the accumulator contacts should not fall below V. Reinsert line fuse F! The end user as last possessor is obliged to return waste batteries / accumulators to a distributor or to the public waste management authorities. This obligation to return batteries / accumulators concerns any end user, private and commercial. When putting the equipment out of service or deactivating it temporarily, accumulators must be unplugged and the line voltage turned off! Charged accumulators that are not connected can be stored for about months. If stored longer, they have to be recharged. Reset of travel control timers: Double click yellow button Reset in the Control Centre to reset the travel time control timers. This feature serves the sole purpose of shortening the time required for installation and maintenance work, it being not necessary to wait for timers to have elapsed before checking other functions. Within s after double-clicking, non-retracted actuators can be retracted by briefly pressing a ventilation button. In this case, the closing command will remain activated for or minutes depending on the setting of DIP switches S- / S- (see.) Caution when ventilation position is active: Double-clicking the button makes the Control Centre assume that all actuators are closed. If this is not the case, a selected ventilation position may be overridden by a subsequent opening action. Therefore, be sure all actuators have closed upon completion of the installation / maintenance work (if necessary, press button again)! When directly operating actuators, e.g. by external accumulators in the course of installation and maintenance work, be sure actuators are disconnected from the Control Centre! Otherwise, damage to the Control Centre power output may occur. Page 9

SHEVS Control Centre RWZ d Equipment with integrated Wind and Rain Module: The following work / checks have to be performed at least once a year: Clean the rain sensor with a damp cloth, using a mild detergent if necessary. Do not scour the sensor surface! Check the wind sensor for free movement Check the sensor functions Check all SHE Units / Ventilation Units for proper closing action. Fault finding / troubleshooting. General information Presence of a malfunction will be shown by yellow LEDs in the Control Centre door and at the main alarm points. As soon as a malfunction is detected, LED will go out. Owing to the separately arranged LEDs Malfunction-Power Supply (mains, accumulator, earth fault, service display module) and Malfunction (signal lines, actuators, accumulators) on the main board, causes of the malfunctions can be located. Detailed indication / analysis of faults using the Service Display Unit SD (see.). Detected malfunctions are: Accumulator or mains failure Failure of fuses F to F Wire-break or short-circuit of signal lines Wire-break or short-circuit of actuator supply lines Service module SVM (optional) is active, or has been removed In the event of malfunction, contact Maintenance Services, if necessary. Spare material: A bag with spare fuses and resistors is available in the Control Centre. Checking the signal lines: If a fault is thought to have originated here, the signal lines should be disconnected one after another in the Control Centre. Next the resistance can be measured at the ends of each signal line in the Control Centre:. Measure the two wires against each other: ~ 0kΩ Signal line is OK ~ 0Ω Short-circuit > 0kΩ Wire-break. Measure the two wires against the PE terminal: ~ 0Ω Earth fault For further measurement the respective terminating resistor (taken from the spares bag or from the last firedetector) may be connected in the Control Centre again (delivery condition). If a fault is not detectable any longer, the malfunction is probably due to a line or wiring fault or to a defective fire detector. Page 0
