Impotant safety infomation and installation pecautions! Read all instuctions Failue to follow all instuctions may esult in equipment damage o a hazadous condition. Read all instuctions caefully befoe installing equipment. Local codes and pactices Always install equipment in accodance with the National Electic Code and in a manne acceptable to the local authoity having juisdiction. Electostatic sensitivity This poduct and its components may be susceptible to electostatic dischage (ESD). Use appopiate ESD gounding techniques while handling the poduct. When possible, always handle the poduct by its non-electical components. High voltage safety test Expeienced electicians, at fist contact, always assume that hazadous voltages may exist in any wiing system. A safety check using a known, eliable voltage measuement o detection device should be made immediately befoe stating wok and when wok esumes. Lightning and high-voltage dange Most electical injuies involving low-voltage wiing esult fom sudden, unexpected high voltages on nomally low-voltage wiing. Low-voltage wiing can cay hazadous high voltages unde unsafe conditions. Neve install o connect wiing o equipment duing electical stoms. Impopely potected wiing can cay a fatal lightning suge fo many miles. All outdoo wiing must be equipped with popely gounded and listed signal cicuit potectos, which must be installed in compliance with local, applicable codes. Neve install wiing o equipment while standing in wate. Wiing and equipment sepaations All wiing and contolles must be installed to minimize the possibility of accidental contact with othe potentially hazadous and disuptive powe and lighting wiing. Neve place 24VAC o communications wiing nea othe bae powe wies, lightning ods, antennas, tansfomes, o steam o hot wate pipes. Neve place wie in any conduit, box, channel, duct o othe enclosue containing powe o lighting cicuits of any type. Always povide adequate sepaation of communications wiing and othe electical wiing accoding to code. Keep wiing and contolles at least six feet fom lage inductive loads (powe distibution panels, lighting ballasts, motos, etc.). Failue to follow these guidelines can intoduce electical intefeence and cause the system to opeate eatically. Waning This equipment (FCC ID: HS9AZWDGL) has been tested and found to comply with the limits fo a class A digital device, pusuant to pat 15 of the FCC ules. 4 Installation and Opeations Guide About Aleton s is a wieless communications device designed to eplace MS/TP and wall senso cabling in instances whee cabling is cost-pohibitive. It allows you to add a small (up to 15 contolles o devices) wieless subnetwok to a wied netwok. A scenaio whee the would be effective is a school that adds potable class ooms that need to be tied into the existing school Building Automation System (BAS). The cost of unning cable undegound to each potable is significant. is an ideal solution to this poblem allowing a wieless netwok to make the connection fo a lowe pice than the labo and mateials needed to buy a cable. It will also be useful when etofitting wieless contolles into places whee wiing o ewiing is pohibitively expensive - buildings with concete walls, fo example. The opeates in one of thee modes:. Coodinato - connects to the committed MS/TP netwok. Sends and eceives system data to/fom tansceives. Tansceive - connects to a unitay contolle by an MS/TP cable. Also suppots a wieless senso by communicating data between the unitay contolle and the wieless senso. Sends and eceives system data to/fom the coodinato. Repeate - Connects only to powe. Repeats tansmissions in aeas of weak eception. Note that the use of epeates educes the oveall bandwidth of the netwok. Dimensions Figue 1 dimensions Powe ating The consumes <5VA powe at 24VAC 50/60Hz typical. 4 LTBT-TM-AZWIOG Rev. 0001BETA Honeywell

Installation and Opeations Guide About netwok topology Figue 2 shows a typical, stand-alone, implementation. Fo examples of othe topologies, see the System Design Guide (LTBT-TM-SYSDSGN). Figue 2 Typical implementation Items to note in elation to Figue 2: The maximum numbe of devices on a netwok is 16 (1 coodinato and 15 tansceives/epeates). The connected to the BCM-ETH must be configued as a coodinato. This device manages the wieless netwok. The coodinato must have a dedicated BCM-ETH o BCM-MSTP. Do not connect multiple MS/TP devices to the coodinato s BCM. An Aleton Wieless Tempeatue Senso cannot be associated with a coodinato o a epeate. An tansceive o epeate may be associated with only one WTS. Both must shae the same ZigBee MAC addess. Locating a tansceive moe than 100 feet fom the coodinato may degade data tansfe ates. 7 Installation and Opeations Guide Geneal installation guidelines Geneal installation guidelines This section povides guidance fo wiing and poweing Aleton contolles. Fo installation instuctions specific to, see Installation on page 14. Using teminal blocks The uses heade-style temination blocks to simplify field wiing of powe, communications, and I/Os. Teminal blocks accept wie gage fom 12 24AWG. To teminate wie to a 1. Stip appoximately 1/8 of the wie jacket fom the end of the wie. 2. Use a small scewdive (1/8 max) to tun the adjustment scew fully counte-clockwise. The clamps in the wie slot sepaate as you tun the scew. 3. Inset the stipped end of the wie into it (ty to get the jacket flush with the teminal block). If using standed wie, be sue to inset all stands into the wie slot. If teminating multiple wies, tim wies to same length and tightly twist exposed wie togethe. 4. Hold the wie in place and tun the adjustment scew clockwise to tighten it until the clamps in the wie slot secue the wie. 5. Tug gently on the wie to ensue it is secue. Powe supply guidelines and equiements uses 24VAC powe fom a UL Listed Class 2 24VAC tansfome (not povided). The uses a half-wave ectifie to convet the AC powe supply to onboad powe. This enables multiple devices with half-wave powe supplies to be poweed fom a single, gounded tansfome. When shaing a tansfome make sue the sum of the MAX loads fo all connected devices does not exceed the Load ating fo the tansfome. maximum powe consumption is <5VA. CAUTION Half-wave devices and full-wave devices must not use the same AC tansfome. If a will shae its powe supply with anothe device, ensue that the othe device uses a half-wave ectifie and that polaity of wiing is maintained. Failue to do so can esult in equipment damage. Note All Aleton unitay contolles ae half-wave devices. Selecting a tansfome The safest way to size a tansfome is to ensue that the maximum VA load ating of the is less than 85% of the Nameplate VA ating of the tansfome. Even if all outputs ae not pesently used, this ensues that each has sufficient powe fo futue equipment additions. CAUTION If an will shae its powe supply with anothe device, ensue the tansfome is ated to handle the combined maximum load. Using and undesized tansfome may damage equipment. IMPORTANT Tansfome sizing should neve exceed the maximum UL Class 2 ating. Honeywell LTBT-TM-AZWIOG Rev. 0001BETA 7

Installation and Opeations Guide Powe supply gounding and wiing When connecting powe to the, ensue that one leg of the VAC seconday cicuit connects to a known eath gound. Also ensue that the GND teminal on the connects to the same known eath gound. Supplying a high-quality gound connection to a and then popely connecting the to the gound is one of the most impotant things you can do to ensue a touble-fee installation. The 24VAC seconday leads ae not intechangeable. Once a lead connects to the GND teminal on the, it is the gounded lead. Obseve and maintain polaity fo subsequent connections. The GND teminal povides a efeence gound fo the cicuit boad and communications wiing. Use 18 AWG cable fo best esults. WARNING Ensue that all powe, communications, and I/O cabling ae gounded accoding to these instuctions. Failue to follow these instuctions may esult in opeational and communication failues o equipment damage. Powe supply wie selection If you ae consideing long powe supply wiing uns, using the ight wie size is citical. If the wie diamete is too small, the esistance may be too high, esulting in a low voltage supply to the. This is known as line loss. The wie size is based on the length of the wie un and the cuent daw of the. Obtain additional infomation fom the tansfome manufactue. 8 LTBT-TM-AZWIOG Rev. 0001BETA Honeywell

Installation and Opeations Guide Geneal installation guidelines MS/TP LAN wiing The coodinato device communicates with the BACnet system ove the MS/TP LAN, which uses the EIA 485 signaling standad. Tansceives communicate with thei associated unitay contolles ove Note This section applies only to the coodinato device. Table 2 MS/TP LAN facts Tansmission speed Layout Cabling Segment length Maximum devices oveall Maximum devices pe segment MS/TP epeates Teminating esistos Shield gounding 9.6, 19.2, 38.4, 76.8Kbps (figued at global contolle). At statup, devices opeate at 76.8 Kbps. Bus. BACnet specifies the following. Shielded, twisted-pai cabling with chaacteistic impedance between 100 and 130 Ohms. Distibuted capacitance between conductos must be less than 30 pf/foot (100 pf/m). Distibuted capacitance between conducto and shield must be less than 60 pf/foot (200 pf/m). Foil o baided shield acceptable. Segments between tansceives and contolles/devices should be kept as shot as pactical to educe cable costs. Longe segments ae acceptable to impove adio signal stength. The segment between a coodinato and its associated BCM can be up to 4000 ft. (1071 m.), but will typically be much shote. One coodinato and 15 tansceives/repeates. One tansceive and one contolle pe subnet. Do not use. not applicable Gound tansceive shield dain wies at single point eath (panel) gound, not gound. Tape off the shield dain wie at the othe end. Gounding coodinato shield wies is not necessay unless the coodinato is located moe than ten feet fom its associated BCM. Teminating MS/TP LAN cabling MS/TP teminations ae located at the top of the. See Fig. 4 on p. 15. Maintain polaity of the MS/TP wie un thoughout the MS/TP LAN. Note Basic infomation about MS/TP teminations at the ae povided hee. 10 Installation and Opeations Guide Gounding the MS/TP LAN shield Pope shield gounding of the MS/TP cabling can help minimize the isk of communications poblems and damage to equipment because of tansient voltage spikes (fo example, lightning stikes). Follow these guidelines fo gounding MS/TP cable shields: Each tansceive MS/TP segment should have a single point of shield gound, pefeably as close to the middle of the cabling un as possible. Do not gound the MS/TP shield to an GND teminal. Do not gound both ends of a shield. Diffeences in potential between the gounds may induce cuent on the shield, causing intefeence. At ungounded, exposed shield points, tape back the shield to the wie jacket o, fo optimum tansient shunting, use 100V gas dischage tubes o 120V MOVs between the shield and gound. 10 LTBT-TM-AZWIOG Rev. 0001BETA Honeywell

Afte all devices ae installed, ensue that only the coodinato is wied to the pimay BAS MS/TP netwok. Wiing multiple s to the pimay MS/TP netwok will cause outing loops. WARNING Thooughly ead all instuctions befoe mounting and wiing. Install equipment in accodance with the National Electic Code, these instuctions, and in a manne acceptable to the local authoity having juisdiction. Failue to do so can esult in bodily injuy o equipment damage. Mounting Choose a mounting location that minimizes the amount of intefeence fo adio communication with the neaest node. Do not mount in a metal box o in a fibeglass box impegnated with feo magnetic` mateials. Leave at least six inches above the device fo connecting wies and an extenal antenna (optional). Some points to conside when selecting a location: The effective communication ange is 50 feet (though two non-metal walls). Any metal (ducting, equipment, metal studs, and so on) nea the device o between two devices will impede adio waves. If a wall has metal components (studs, ductwok, and so on) adio waves will tend to tavel along the plane of the wall. Mounting the device on the same wall as othe device(s) will incease signal stength. When mounting nea ductwok o othe metal, use double-sided tape to tempoaily mount the device while testing adio eception. Mount the indoos only. DIN ail mounting To mount the on a DIN ail 1. Hold the device with its top tilted towad the DIN ail and then hook the two top tabs on the back of the device onto the top of the DIN ail. 2.
