3 Page 3 of 14 Executive Summary Objective Report Sponsor Address Summary of Conclusions This report presents an appraisal of Eurospec cylinders, when used with previously tested timber or mineral composite fire resisting doorsets. Eurospec Architectural Hardware Limited Stancliffe Street Mill Hill Blackburn BB2 2QR Should the recommendations given in this report be followed, it can be concluded that timber or mineral composite based doorsets incorporating locks, which have previously been successfully fire tested by a UKAS accredited laboratory, or assessed by Exova Warringtonfire, to have achieved up to 60 minutes integrity and insulation in accordance with BS 476: Part 22: 1987 or BS EN : 2000, as discussed in this report, may be fitted with Eurospec cylinders, without detracting from the overall achieved of the doorset. A full list of appraised hinges is given in Annex A. Valid until 1 st December 2014 This report may only be reproduced in full. 4 Page 4 of 14 Introduction This report presents an appraisal of Eurospec cylinders, when used with previously tested timber or mineral composite fire resisting doorsets. The doorsets into which the cylinder are to be fitted shall be latched or unlatched and may be of single-leaf or double-leaf configurations. The proposed doorsets are required to provide a fire resistance of 30 or 60 minutes integrity and insulation with respect to BS 476: Part 22: 1987 or BS EN : FTSG The data referred to in the supporting data section has been considered for the purpose of this appraisal which has been prepared in accordance with the Fire Test Study Group Resolution No. 82: Assumptions Supporting construction Clearance gaps Doorset details It is assumed that the construction, which supports the proposed doorset assembly, will have been the subject of a separate test and its is such that it will not influence the of the doorset for the required period. Door leaf to frame clearance gaps can have a significant effect on the overall fire of a doorset. It is therefore assumed that the leaf to leaf and leaf to frame clearance gaps will not exceed those measured for the relevant fire tested doorset and in any case shall not exceed 3.0 mm. It is assumed that the proposed cylinders will be fitted to timber or composite based door leaves which have previously been shown to be capable of providing 30 or 60 minutes integrity and insulation in the same configuration as that proposed, with regard to: a) Single-acting, single or double-leaf b) Latched or unlatched

5 Page 5 of 14 Proposals Basic Evidence It is proposed that Eurospec cylinders as listed in Annex A, may be used with previously tested timber or mineral composite fire resisting doorsets, without detracting from the overall achieved fire resistance of the doorset, with respect to BS 476: Part 22: 1987 or EN : It is proposed that the doorsets may be of single or double-leaf, single-acting configurations. WFRC No A test to determine the effects of various building hardware on the fire resistance of two single-acting, single-leaf timber doorsets within a low density rigid supporting construction, in accordance with BS EN : The test demonstrated the ability of Doorsets A & B to provide 34 and 60 minutes integrity and insulation respectively. WF No A test to determine the effects of various building hardware on the fire resistance of two specimens of a, single-acting, single-leaf doorset within a low density rigid supporting construction, in accordance with BS EN : The test demonstrated the ability of Doorsets A & B to provide 66 and 56 minutes integrity and insulation respectively. WFRC No A test to determine the effects of various building hardware on the fire resistance of two single-acting, single-leaf timber doorsets within a low density rigid supporting construction, in accordance with BS EN : The test demonstrated the ability of Doorsets A & B to provide 32 and 57 minutes integrity and insulation respectively. WF No A test to determine the fire resistance of two single-acting, singleleaf timber based doorsets incorporating building hardware, mounted within a low-density rigid supporting construction, in accordance with BS EN : The test demonstrated the ability of Doorsets A & B to provide 25 and 68 minutes integrity and insulation respectively.

6 Page 6 of 14 Assessed Performance Cylinders Eurospec locks/latches and cylinders including rim cylinders, have been the subject of several tests, as referenced in the support data section of this report. Observations from these tests indicated that none of the tested cylinders have contributed to failure of the tested doorsets before the required 30 or 60 minute period. The proposed MP5, MP6, MP10 and MP15 cylinders are of a steel construction and are comparable to the tested cylinders in terms of the critical aspects of their design and dimensions and therefore, the use of these cylinders with previously tested doorsets/locks would not be expected to result in any reduction in. Suitable doorsets As this appraisal is intended to be used on a general basis and not restricted to any particular manufacturer of fire doors, the following points are given to enable the cylinders to be used safely: The timber doorset, including door frame, intumescent seals and associated ironmongery (the door must have incorporated a lock) should have achieved 30 or 60 minutes integrity and, where applicable, insulation when tested by a UKAS approved laboratory (or assessed by warringtonfire) to BS 476: Part 22: 1987 or EN :2000. If the proposed doorset is to be used in double-leaf configurations, the test or assessment must relate to this configuration. Conclusions timber or mineral composite based doorsets incorporating locks, which have previously been successfully fire tested by a UKAS accredited laboratory, or assessed by Exova Warringtonfire, to have achieved up to 60 minutes integrity and insulation in accordance with BS 476: Part 22: 1987 or BS EN : 2000, as discussed in this report, may be fitted with Eurospec cylinders, without detracting from the overall achieved of the doorset. A full list of appraised hinges is given in Annex A.

7 Page 7 of 14 Validity This assessment is issued on the basis of test data and information available at the time of issue. If contradictory evidence becomes available to warringtonfire the assessment will be unconditionally withdrawn and Eurospec Architectural Hardware Limited will be notified in writing. Similarly the assessment is invalidated if the assessed construction is subsequently tested because actual test data is deemed to take precedence over an expressed opinion. The assessment is valid initially for a period of five years i.e. until 1 st December 2014, after which time it is recommended that it be returned for re-appraisal. The appraisal is only valid provided that no other modifications are made to the tested construction other than those described in this report. Summary of Primary Supporting Data WFRC No A test to determine the effects of various building hardware on the fire resistance of two single-acting, single-leaf timber doorsets within a low density rigid supporting construction, in accordance with BS EN : Doorset A had overall nominal dimensions of 2080 mm high by 995 mm wide and incorporated a door leaf of overall nominal dimensions 2040 mm high by 928 mm wide by 44 mm thick. The door leaf was hung within a softwood frame on three Euro Spec CEN 1433 stainless steel hinges and incorporated a Carlisle Brass AA45 concealed door closer, a Eurospec FLL 5040 flat latch (which was engaged for the duration of the test) and a Euro Spec LRS 4001 SAA Lever handle. Doorset B had overall nominal dimensions of 2080 mm high by 1010 mm wide and incorporated a door leaf of overall nominal dimensions 2040 mm high by 928 mm wide by 52 mm thick. The door leaf was hung within a hardwood frame on three Euro Spec CEN 1443 stainless steel hinges (protected on both flaps by 2 mm of Interdens ) a Eurospec Euro Cylinder Sashlock (protected on both flaps by 2 mm of Interdens ) (which was engaged for the duration of the test), and a Euro Spec LRF 1190 SSS/BB Lever handle. The results of the test were as follows: Doorset A Doorset B Integrity Sustained flaming 34 minutes 60 minutes Gap gauge 37 minutes* 75 minutes* Cotton Pad 34 minutes 60 minutes Insulation 34 minutes 60 minutes*

8 Page 8 of 14 Test date : 13 th August 2003 Test sponsor : Eurospec Architectural Hardware Limited & APC Architectural Products and Components (permission provided) WF No A test to determine the effects of various building hardware on the fire resistance of two specimens of a, single-acting, single-leaf doorset within a low density rigid supporting construction, in accordance with BS EN : For the purpose of the test the specimens were referenced Doorset A and Doorset B. Both doorsets were orientated such that they opened towards the heating conditions of the test. Both doorsets had overall dimensions of 2180 mm high by 1040 mm wide and incorporated a leaf of overall dimensions 2038 mm high by 924 mm wide by 54 mm thick. The leaf was installed within a hardwood frame and comprised softwood stiles and rails, a flaxboard core, with non-combustible board sub facings, hardwood lippings to the vertical edges and MDF outer facings. The leaf of Doorset A was hung on three Eurospec Architectural Hardware mild steel hinges referenced H26T2006 within a hardwood frame. The leaf of Doorset B was hung on three Eurospec Architectural Hardware mild steel hinges referenced H26T1004 within a hardwood frame. Doorset A was fitted with a Eurospec Architectural Hardware lock set, which incorporated a mortice sashlock referenced LS B5525 SSS, which was fitted with a LRFBB1190SSS/316, with APS5000 escutcheons. The lock set was bedded on 2 mm thick intumescent board and was engaged for the test duration. Doorset B was fitted with two Eurospec Architectural Hardware lock sets, which were in turn fitted with various items of handle hardware as detailed below. The locks were bedded on 2 mm thick intumescent board and were rendered latched for the test duration. The upper lock to Doorset B incorporated a lock case referenced MCN5025, which was fitted with a LCP1000 handle set and included a CYA SC Euro single cylinder. The lower lock set of the doorset incorporated a lock case referenced DLS72, which was fitted with a LBFBB3167SSS handle set with LSE 1600SS escutcheons and included a CYA SC Euro standard turn cylinder. The results of the test were as follows:

Doorset A had overall nominal dimensions of 2080 mm high by 997 mm wide and incorporated a door leaf of overall nominal dimensions 2042 mm high by 927 mm wide by 46 mm thick. The doorset included a softwood door frame and a door leaf comprising softwood stiles and rails, a flaxboard core, chipboard facings and hardwood lippings on the vertical edges. Doorset A incorporated a lock mechanism referenced MCN5025SSS which was bedded on acrylic based intumescent mastic. The door leaf was hung on three stainless steel hinges referenced HIN13225 CEN which were bedded on acrylic based intumescent mastic. Doorset B had overall nominal dimensions of 2085 mm high by 1006 mm wide and incorporated a door leaf of overall nominal dimensions 2037 mm high by 925 mm wide by 54 mm thick. The doorset included a hardwood door frame and a door leaf comprising softwood stiles and rails, a flaxboard core, noncombustible board sub-facings, chipboard outer facings and hardwood lippings on the vertical edges. Doorset B incorporated a lock mechanism referenced DLS7260EPSSS which was protected around the lock case and behind the strike plate via 2 mm thick Interdens intumescent material. The door leaf was hung on three stainless steel hinges referenced HIN14325 CEN which were bedded on 2 mm thick Interdens intumescent material. Both door leaves were orientated such that they opened towards the heating conditions of the test. Each doorset was rendered unlatched for the duration of the test.

Doorset A had overall dimensions of 2086 mm high by 1008 mm wide and incorporated a door leaf of overall dimensions 2040 mm high by 926 mm wide by 43 mm thick. The doorset included a softwood door frame and a door leaf comprising softwood stiles and rails, a flaxboard core and plywood facings. Doorset A incorporated two rim latches referenced RCN5240WHT and RCN5240PB which were bedded on acrylic based intumescent mastic and protected behind the strike box via 1 mm thick Interdens intumescent material, a lever handle referenced ZIN3121PC and a mortice latch referenced TLS5030BSS/SSS. The door leaf was hung on three stainless steel hinges referenced Enduro HIN1433/13SSS, which were bedded on acrylic based intumescent mastic. Doorset B had overall dimensions of 2081 mm high by 1012 mm wide and incorporated a door leaf of overall dimensions 2035 mm high by 930 mm wide by 52 mm thick. The doorset included a hardwood door frame and a door leaf constructed from softwood stiles and rails, a flaxboard core, non-combustable subfacings, MDF outer facings, and hardwood lippings to the vertical edges. Doorset B was fitted with a push bar operated panic exit device referenced Eurospec Touchbar Panic Exit Device with BZP Top Trip Keeper and BZP Bottom Easy Clean Socket. The device comprised a horizontal push bars and three point latching. The top and bottom latching was achieved by means of locking rods fitted externally into the door leaf. The door leaf was hung on three mild steel hinges reference Enduromax H2N1103/13BZP. The door leaf

11 Page 11 of 14 The doorsets where mounted such that Doorset A opened towards and Doorset B opened away from the heating conditions of the test.
