7 Turning device on & off Status Check C Button Press and hold both the status button and the amber alert button until Turning on = 1 vibration and both the network signal and battery lights will flash red Amber Alert button Turning off = 2 vibrations and will immediately switch off When to use the device Status Checks This confirms whether the device has adequate battery life, signal strength and is active Amber Alerts Very important help us help You Red Alerts As and when needed

9 Key responsibility 3 Amber alert Press and hold Until Amber Alert button 3 short vibrations (Alarm activated ) Both lights constant Amber. (Dialling) DO NOT SPEAK YET Call automatically shuts down When connected lights Flashing Amber SPEAK NOW Return to constant amber lights to indicate 10 seconds left to speak Red Alert When do I use it? Whenever you feel at risk! It creates an open voice call straight to an experienced alarm handling operator, at the Reliance ARC, the sooner they can listen the better.
10 Red Alert Alert How do o I raise one? one e? If the RIP plug is pulled from the body of the device a Red aler t is raised You will feel 3 shor t vibrations to indicate the alar m has been activated Once the call is connected and live the device will give 2 quick vibrations ever y 10 seconds Lanyard d -rip. alarm alarrm To cancel firstly re-inser t the plug, confir m you are safe and, state your name before pressing and holding the Red aler t button
11 Cancelling Red Alerts Ensure the call is connected (wait for first heartbeat) Ensure you clearly state that you are safe before cancelling Press and hold the Red alert button, the device will vibrate twice. False Alarm Wait for the first heartbeat (call connected and live) and then clearly state that it is a false alarm. Press and hold the Red alert button, the device will vibrate twice. What if the devices gives one long vibration? >>>You are Not connected<<< You Y Need to If safe to do so move, to try and get a better signal while in redial mode The device will automatically attempt to redial for approx 30 seconds If you do not reconnect in 30 seconds keep pressing the Red Alert If connection is lost during Red Alert Re press the Red Alert Button
12 Red Alert Alarm Handling Red Alert Received Genuine Incident A Access Amber Alert t Definite False Alarm Continue to monitor and perform location fix Unsure? Contact user and check OK, plus ask to close alarm down Police? If situation warrants plus confirmation of user location Points of Contact What Warrants W A Police Escalation? If the Operator: Can determine an assault is taking place Believes an assault is likely to happen Hears that the User sounds in real distress Hears the User state they want Police calling location
13 User Responsibilities Charging Status Checks Amber Alerts All Users leave your name on an Amber alert All due care should be taken to maintain the device in good working order. This is for the user s benefit. Health & Safety The device maximum SAR (Specific Absorption rate) is 0.5 W/Kg (EU maximum is 2 W/KG). There should be no risks associated with wearers with implanted pacemakers. However, it is recommended that users consult their doctor and/or the manufacturer of the pacemaker device. Use of device, as per mobile phone, should be in accordance with regulations/protocols/stipulations relating to that specific environment. Where the use of mobile phones is prohibited, such as in a High Dependency Unit, the device should be turned off. If the area has signs asking that mobile phones, because of nuisance, should not be used then this does not necessarily mean the device should be turned off and this should be discussed with a line manager
14 Dynamic Risk Assessment Devices issued are safety equipment and provided to the user in support of providing a safe working environment as required under H&S legislation Ensure you always carryout your normal risk assessment, but now include the status check and Amber Alert as part of that daily assessment Devices should be used in conjunction with lone worker policies, always follow your own organisations procedures and attend CRT training Dynamic risk assessment The lone worker device must always be used in accordance with the instructions and training provided Used correctly it will provide a useful safety device. However, it has technical and practical limitations. These might include: The ability of The Emergency Services to respond to an alert The network coverage in the area where you are working Following your risk assessment of a task, if you are in any doubt, do not rely on the device if you think you will be putting yourself at unnecessary risk The Reliance Protect solution and lone worker device is designed to enhance your Trust s existing Lone Worker Policies and Procedures. It does not replace them or the need for the user to conduct their own risk assessment of any task being undertaken
15 Customers Responsibilities Lone Worker policy in place which complies with Data Protection requirements Risk assessments in place for all lone worker staff Health body risk register in place Compliance with Health and Safety legislation Data Protection and Freedom of Information Act. On raising amber or red alerts, information about your location will be stored on the electronic management system solely managed by Reliance Protect. This information will only be used in the event of an incident occurring that requires additional intervention. The information stored will be made available to the Police and CPS in the event of an incident occurring that leads to criminal investigation and/or prosecution. This information will also be made available to the LSMS and NHS SMS to assist in any investigation and or legal action against an alleged assailant Additionally, under the Data Protection Act, audio recordings made on raising red alerts may be disclosed to the person recorded. Such recordings may also be disclosed in connection with legal proceedings

18 How does the GPS Work? GPS is sent from the Identicom via SMS It requires line of sight with satellites. It s performance is significantly compromised indoors Accuracy is less than 10m when outdoors. The device only sends the current location when the red alert is raised. It updates itself frequently but only sends the information when a red alert is raised The ARC can request a location fix This information is used in conjunction with the amber alert and LBS (Location Based Service) location fix. How does the LBS Work? (Location Based Service) The mobile phone network, will only provide a crude location position, accuracy to around 100m at best, will work indoors The ARC can request a location fix outside of red alerts as per the GPS above
19 Man-down Settings Your Identicom device has been configured to send an alarm to the ARC when it detects any one of the following three key triggers The Identicom Is Looking For Three Key Triggers Key Trigger One No movement The device can be set to monitor non-movement for a period of time before escalating the alarm seconds
20 The Identicom Is Looking For Three Key Triggers Key Trigger Two Tilt The device can be set to monitor the angle of the tilt from the vertical Can be set between degrees from vertical The length of time it monitors this when the angle of tilt is reached before escalating the alarm seconds The Identicom Is Looking For Three Key Triggers Key Trigger Three Sudden Impact The device will recognise forces of 2 kg or higher and look for nonmovement thereafter If the period of non-movement elapses before further movement is recognised then the alarm will escalate Can be set between degrees from vertical The length of time it monitors this when the angle of tilt is reached seconds
21 Pooled Devices Pooled User Responsibilities Status Checks Complete status check as per individual user Amber Alerts: when taking over device leave an Amber Alert Always leave an Amber alert with: Your full name Location and Post Code if known These details will assist in identifying the correct user and where you are in the event that the emergency services are required to be contacted Note: To call the Police we need to have confirmation of your location This is through the Amber alert. We cannot contact the Police if we cannot confirm your location
22 Pooled User Responsibilities Charging: Regularly charge the device Wherever possible ensure fully charged on handover Hand over charger to next user Advise next user of when device last charged All due care should be taken to maintain the device in good working order. This is for the benefit of all user s Pooled User Responsibilities On handover of device leave an Amber Alert Check for damage when taking responsibility for the device In the event that damage is found: Contact your Manager for instructions Contact the Reliance Protect service desk Report all defects ASAP / Line Manager or Service Desk Each pooled user must have completed individual: User Profile form Escalation form
