5 Electrical security installations Part 5-1-3: CCTV installations CCTV surveillance systems for use in security applications Installation, planning and implementation requirements 1 Scope This part of SANS gives recommendations for the planning and installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) equipment comprising of camera(s) with monitor(s), video recorder(s), switching control and ancillary equipment for use in security applications. The objectives of this part of SANS are: a) to provide guidance to the installers of CCTV systems with respect to the pre-installation (or planning) phase and the physical on-site installation phase; b) to provide an overview of the external environmental factors that need consideration during installation of the CCTV system, that could affect its operational performance; c) to provide an overview of the installation documentation requirements; and d) to provide an overview of the testing, commissioning and hand-over phase of the installation. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions that, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this part of SANS All standards are subject to revision and, since any reference to a standard is deemed to be a reference to the latest edition of that standard, parties to agreements based on this part of SANS are encouraged to take steps to ensure the use of the most recent editions of the standards indicated below.
