Triple rinse empty containers in the following manner: Invert the empty container over the spray or mixing tank and allow to drain for at least 30 seconds after the flow has slowed down to a drip. Thereafter, rinse the container three times with a volume of water equal to a minimum of 10 % of that of the container. Add the rinsings to the contents of the spray tank before destroying the container in the described manner. Destroy the empty container by perforation and flattening and dispose of it in a safe manner. Never re-use the empty container for any other purpose. Prevent contamination of food, feeds, drinking water and eating utensils. SYMPTOMS OF HUMAN POISONING: If product is aspirated into the lungs during ingestion or vomiting, mild to severe chemical pneumonia may be caused. May cause burning, itching or tingling sensations of the skin and readily disappear within 24 hours after exposure. Inhalation causes nasal dischargea and a scratchy throat. Symptoms of high-dose ingestion include nausea, prolonged vomiting, stomach pains and diarrhea, which progresses to convulsions, unconsciousness and coma. FIRST AID TREATMENT: Remove patient from source of poisoning and keep him quiet and reassured. Eyes: Flush eyes with clean gentle flowing water for at least 20 minutes, occasionally lifting upper and lower lids, until no evidence of chemicals remains. If irritation occurs and persists, obtain medical attention. Skin: Remove contaminated clothing and rinse contaminated body area thoroughly with plenty of soap and cold water, until no evidence of chemical remains. Do not rub skin. Apply olive oil to affected areas for prompt relief. Get medical attention if irritation occurs and persists. Inhalation: Move the patient to fresh air. If breathing difficulty or irritation occurs and persists, obtain medical attention. Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. If the patient is alert, have the month thoroughly rinsed with water. Do not give anything by month. Get medical attention. NOTE TO PHYSICIAN: This product contains a pyrethroid and an aromatic solvent. If product is aspirated into the lungs during ingestion or vomiting, mild to severe chemical pneumonia may be caused. The stomach should be emptied as soon as possible by careful gastric lavage. Antidote is not available. Treat symptomatically and supportively. In case of ingestion, consider gastric lavage with water or 5% sodium bicarbonate solution. Convulsions should be treated with anti-convulsants. AKITO/13/01/
RESISTANCE WARNING: For resistance management, AKITO is a group code 3 insecticide. Any insect population may contain individuals naturally resistant to AKITO and other group code 3 insecticide. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the insect population if these insecticides are used repeatedly. These resistant insects may not be controlled by AKITO or any other group code 3 insecticide. To delay insecticide resistance: Avoid exclusive repeated use of insecticide from the same insecticide group code. Alternate or tank mix with products form different insecticide group codes, Integrate other control methods (chemical, cultural, biological) into insect control programmes. For specific information on resistance management contact the registration holder of this product. Warning against resistance: Resistance of (Helicoverpa armigera) to synthetic pyrethroids has been confirmed. As part of a resistance management strategy to prevent the development of widespread resistance of this pest, only apply AKITO according to the following guidelines: Cotton: Synthetic pyrethroids must only be applied to cotton during the period 1 January to 28 February. All Other Crops: Do not respray more than two applications per growing season. If a pyrethroid gives poor performance, do not respray with any synthetic pyrethroid, even at a corrective dosage rate. Use a product from a different chemical group with a different mode of action. USE RESTRICTIONS: The use of AKITO for control of thrips in citrus may lead to a buildup of the red scale population. Therefore only apply a maximum of one application per season, preferably in the period 4 weeks after petal drop to 20 December, and only use in orchards in which red scale is under commercial control. If it is intended to use AKITO during this period, apply a registered preventive treatment for red scale control in the early spring and again 7 to 11 weeks after petal fall. Do not use on trees with a history of red spider mite infestations. If the soil is dry, do not apply for cutworm control. Inspect the fields if it had rained soon after application. If necessary, repeat the application. DIRECTIONS FOR USE: Use only as directed. Compatibility: AKITO is compatible with a wide range of pesticides. However, since it is not possible for Arysta Lifescience South Africa to test all possible combinations, the onus lies with the user to carry out a compatibility test in the event of any uncertainty. Do not mix AKITO with seaweed extracts or vamidothion, prothiophos, chinomethionate, amitraz or wettable powders. Do not add spray adjuvants or mineral oils to AKITO when spraying deciduous fruit. AKITO may be mixed with buffers, molasses and most acaricides commonly used in cotton. When AKITO is used in mixtures with other remedies, observe the label WARNINGS, PRECAUTIONS and DIRECTIONS FOR USE as indicated for these remedies. Do not mix with other pesticides unless physical and chemical compatibility has been confirmed. Consult the supplier for the latest information on the compatibility of AKITO. AKITO/13/01/
Quality of the dilution water: The efficacy of AKITO can be reduced by very hard water (> 500 p.p.m. solutes) and it is unstable when mixed with water having a ph of 8 or above. In such cases, use a registered buffer to adjust the ph. Refer also to Mixing Instructions below. The addition of molasses has a ph-reducing effect and will also reduce evaporation of the spray mist. For ground application, add 10 % by volume and 20 % for aerial application. Mixing Instructions: Half fill the spray tank with clean water. Measure out the required quantity of AKITO and premix this with at least 10 litres. Add this mixture to the water in the spray tank whilst agitating continuously. Add the remaining water while still agitating. If any other product is to be added as an ingredient in a tank mixture, it must be pre-mixed and added in the same way after the AKITO. IMPORTANT: If a buffer is used to adjust the ph of the water it must be mixed with the total volume of water required for that particular spray mixture before adding the other products. Maintain agitation whilst spraying and do not leave the spray mixture standing in the tank for any length of time, e.g. overnight. Ensure that agitation takes place for a few minutes prior to commencement of spraying after normal operational stops, e.g. lunch break. General Directions: AKITO resists rain wash-off provided the mixture is given sufficient time to dry off completely after application. Application Techniques: All spray applications must be made with appropriate equipment that is properly calibrated to give the desired coverage for that particular method of application. It should also be clean and in good working order. Ensure a good even application of spray mixture on the target crop for maximum efficacy. Ground Application: Apply in enough water to ensure even coverage of the target area. Ensure that sprayers are calibrated before spraying. High volume application (HV): 1000 litre per hectare or more of the spray mixture is applied by suitable ground equipment to the point of run-off. The volume of water to be applied per hectare in deciduous fruit orchards is calculated according to the Tree Row Volume Formula. If there is any uncertainty consult the supplier. Aerial application of AKITO may only be done by a registered Aerial Application Operator using a correctly calibrated, registered aircraft according to the instructions of SANS Code (Aerial Application of Agricultural Pesticides). Ensure that the spray mixture is distributed evenly over the target area and that the loss of spray material during application is restricted to a minimum. It is therefore essential that the following criteria be met: Volume: A spray mixture volume of 30 litre per hectare is recommended. As this product has not been evaluated at a reduced volume rate, the registration holder cannot guarantee efficacy, or be held responsible for any adverse effects if this product is applied aerially at a lower volume rate than recommended above. AKITO/13/01/
Droplet coverage: 30 to 40 droplets per cm² must be recovered at the target area. Droplet size: A droplet spectrum with a VMD of 250 to 280 microns is recommended. Limit the production of fine droplets less than 150 microns (high drift and evaporation potential) to a minimum. Flying height: Maintain the height of the spray boom at 3 to 4 metres above the target. Do not spray when aircraft dives, is in a climb or when banking. Use suitable atomising equipment that will produce the desired droplet size and coverage, but which will ensure the minimum loss of product. The spraying system must produce a droplet spectrum with the lowest possible Relative Span. Position all the atomisers within the inner 60 to 75 % of the wingspan to prevent droplets from entering the wingtip vortices. The difference in temperature between the wet and dry bulb thermometers, of a whirling hygrometer, should not exceed 8 C. Stop spraying if the wind speed exceeds 15 km/h. Stop spraying under turbulent, unstable and dry conditions during the heat of the day. Spraying under temperature inversion conditions (spraying in or above the inversion layer) and/or high humidity conditions (relative humidity 80 % and above) may lead to the following: - reduced efficacy due to suspension and evaporation of small droplets in the air (inadequate coverage). - damage to other sensitive crops and/or non-target areas through drifting of the suspended spray cloud away from the target field. Ensure that the Aerial Spray Operator knows exactly which fields to spray. Obtain an assurance from the Aerial Spray Operator that the above requirements will be met and that relevant data will be compiled in a logbook and kept for future reference. APPLICATION DOSAGE RATES: CROPS/PESTS: DOSAGE RATE: ALL ROW For satisfactory control it is essential that the top 3 cm of CROPS soil is moist at the time of application. Apply post emergence of the crop as soon as the pest occurs using Cutworms sufficient water. Repeat the application if a reinfestation occurs. Row Treatment: Apply in at least 3 litre water per 100 metre row. Apply in 0,23 ml/100 m row a band at least 120 mm wide over the row. Increase the dosage proportionately if the application is made in a wider band. Overall Treatment: 70 ml/ha Apply in at least 300 litre water per hectare. 70 ml/ha BEANS Apply as soon as eggs or larvae are noticed on the plants. Repeat after 10 to 14 days depending on the level of infestation. Apply in at least 200 litre water per hectare. AKITO/13/01/
APPLES & PEARS Codling moth & Leafrollers Banded fruit weevil (snoutbeetle) COTTON All Bollworms (, Red, & Spiny larvae) & Stainers 6,5 ml/100 l water 10 ml/100 l water 12,5 ml100 l water Weekly Application: 75 ml/100 l water 75 Apply as a corrective spray. Do not apply before 75 % petal drop. This concentration will also control Codling moth and suppress Weevil. Apply as a full cover spray commencing at 75 % petal drop. Repeat after 14 days in orchards where high infestations warrant intensive control or where pheromone traps dictate applications. Repeat after 21 days in orchards where low infestations are experienced. This concentration will also control and suppress Weevil. Two applications are required; the first at 75 % petal drop and the second 4 weeks later. Initially this treatment will also control and Codling moth. If a third spray is necessary in mid-january to prevent late damage, use a product from a different chemical group with a different mode of action. AKITO is primarily intended for use as a preventive control measure against all larvae. In order to comply with the principles of integrated pest management only apply AKITO during the period of fruiting from peak flowering to boll split, i.e. approximately 12 to 20 weeks after plant emergence. This will fall between 1 January and 28 February depending on planting time. Therefore alternative methods of control, based on scouting results, should be used in the period from beginning of flowering i.e. about 6 weeks after emergence to peak flowering for the control of all larvae and after boll split for the control of Red and Spiny s and Stainers. Stainers will be controlled by applications for control of larvae. With boom and nozzles ensure thorough coverage of the plants. Apply 100 to 200 litre spray mixture per hectatre. Apply lower spray volume to plants less than 60 cm high. Mistblower: Apply in sufficient water to obtain thorough coverage of the plants. Apply lower dosage rate to plants less than 60 cm high. AKITO/13/01/
COTTON All Bollworms (, Red, and Spiny larvae) & Leaf eaters (e.g. Semi(Plusia) Looper & Spodoptera) CITRUS Thrips ml/ha 250 ml/100 l water 250 or 500 ml/ha 250 or 500 ml/ha Apply lower dosage rate to plants less than 60 cm high. CORRECTIVE TREATMENT: Apply as a corrective spray to control an established infestation, i.e. when more than 5 larvae are found per 24 plants during scouting or when Leaf eating larvae are found and damage to leaves is more than 25%. Threshhold limits are: - 5 larvae/24 plants; Red - 2 larvae/24 plants or - 6 eggs/24 plants; Spiny - 2 larvae/24 plants; Bollworm complex - 5 larvae/24 plants. Later instar Red s established inside bolls may not be controlled successfully. Success of treatment is related to quality of application, density of crop foliage, stand and developmental stage of larvae. Allow up to 4 days for AKITO to achieve its full effect. A corrective spray should be considered as an emergency measure. Thereafter the regular programme must be resumed irrespective of the crop stage. With boom and nozzles - ensure thorough coverage of the plants. Apply 100 to 200 litre spray mixture per hectare. Apply lower spray volume to plants less than 60 cm high. Mistblower: Apply in sufficient water to obtain thorough coverage of the plants. Apply lower dosage rate to plants less than 60 cm high. Apply lower dosage rate to plants less than 60 cm high. IMPORTANT: See USE RESTRICTIONS. Only for use in orchards where Red scale is under commercial and not biological control. If after using any other registered product, a reinfestation occurs in the periods mentioned below, apply as a light cover spray to wet the foliage canopy to the point of run-off. CRUCIFERAE Use a progressively lower dose rate the later the reinfestation occurs in either of the designated periods of time for application ml/100 l I.
