PRECAUTIONS Wear rubber gloves, a cotton overall and face shield when preparing the spray mixture. Wear a hat, nose and mouth protection, cotton overalls, and shoes when applying the spray mixture. Wash contaminated clothing daily. Wash hands and face with soap after mixing or applying SENTRY EC. Do not eat or drink during mixing or application of SENTRY EC or before washing exposed parts. Avoid contamination of human or animal food, feeds/utensils or drinking. Spray drift should not be inhaled, nor should it be allowed to spread over any non-target area such as bodies or flowing, grazing areas or other crops. Ensure that no residual product is left over in containers by rinsing thoroughly. Used empty containers should be punctured and disposed of in a sanitary landfill or be incinerated. Prevent any contact with eyes through drift or splashing. In case of accidental contact wash with for at least 15 minutes and contact a physician if eye or skin irritation persists. SYMPTOMS OF HUMAN POISONING: May irritate eyes, nose, and skin. FIRST AID TREATMENT: Remove patient from source of poisoning and keep him quiet and reassured. Eye contact: Flush eyes with clean gentle flowing for at least 20 minutes, occasionally holding the eyelid(s) open. If irritation persists, obtain medical attention. Skin contact: Remove contaminated clothing and rinse contaminated body area thoroughly with plenty of soap and cold. Do not rub skin. Apply olive oil to affected areas for prompt relief. Get medical attention if irritation persists. Inhalation: Move the patient to fresh air. If breathing difficulty or irritation occurs and persists, obtain medical attention. Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. If the patient is alert, have the month thoroughly rinsed with and give 1 to 2 glasses of to drink. Do not give anything by month to unconscious person. Obtain medical attention immediately. NOTE TO PHYSICIAN: There is no specific antidote available. This product contains a pyrethroid. The stomach should be emptied as soon as possible by careful gastric lavage. Inducing vomiting to remove this preparation from the stomach can increase the risk of chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema due to aspiration of stomach contents. Treat symptomatically and supportively. Treat discomfort due to irritation symptomatically. RESISTANCE WARNING SENTRY EC is a group code 3A insecticide. Any insect population may contain individuals naturally resistant to SENTRY EC and other group code 3A insecticides. The resistant individuals can eventually dominate the insect population if these insecticides are used repeatedly. SENTRY EC or any other group code 3A insecticide may not control the resistant insect. To delay insecticide resistance: Avoid exclusive repeated use of insecticides from the same insecticide group code. Alternate or tank mix with products from different insecticide group codes. Integrate other control methods (chemicals, biological, cultural) in an insecticide control programme. SENTRY EC/01/07/
For specific information on resistance management contact the registration holder or your nearest SENTRY EC dealer. DIRECTIONS FOR USE USE ONLY AS DIRECTED Compatibility: do not add wetting or sticking agents or oils to SENTRY EC when spraying deciduous fruit. Do not mix with seaweed extracts, amitraz, chinomethionat, dodine, prothiophos and vamidothian. SENTRY EC is compatible with Chlorothalonil 500SC, Cyanazine, Atrazine SC, molasses and most acaricides commonly used in cotton, ; with surfactants such as Tronic in a tank mixture (see below). All WARNINGS, PRECAUTIONS and DIRECTIONS FOR USE mentioned on the labels of agricultural remedies used in combination with SENTRY EC, must be complied with. Mixing instructions: 1. Containers of SENTRY EC should be shaken well before measuring out or adding to spray tanks. 2. Fill the spray tank with with half of the final spray volume required. 3. Mix the volume of SENTRY EC required with about 10 litres of before adding it to the in the spray tank. Other products to be tank-mixed with SENTRY EC should also be pre-mixed with about 10 litres of before pouring into the spray tank. 4. SENTRY EC efficacy will be reduced if the ph of the before mixing deviates far either above or below ph 4 and if the is very hard (>1000 app. solutes). ph reducing agents should be introduced to the spray tank before addition of SENTRY EC. Molasses can be used to reduce ph and to minimise evaporation from spray mist. It should be added at 10% overall volume for ground application and 20% overall volume for aerial application. 5. The sequence of additions to the half-filled spray tank is critical for maximising efficacy of SENTRY EC: agitate the in the tank and first add the adjuvant or acidifying agent; then the suspension concentrate (SC); then any -soluble concentrates (WSC) and finally the emulsifiable concentrates (EC). 6. Now fill the spray tank with the required volume of and maintain agitation up to and during spraying. 7. Spray mixtures do not retain solubility characteristics indefinitely and should be used on the day of mixing. General directions: Always use methods and materials of application which will ensure premium penetration of plant canopies and wetting of leaf and other plant surfaces. Equipment must be in perfect working order and must be properly calibrated. Ground applications should be made with conventional booms and hydraulic nozzles or with mistblowers. Dense row crops must be sprayed under high pressure and high volume. Monitor efficacy within a few days and reapply if necessary, i.e. if control of pests is not adequate. SENTRY EC/01/07/
AERIAL APPLICATION: Aerial application of SENTY EC may only be done by a registered Aerial Application Operator using a correctly calibrated, registered aircraft according to the instructions of SABS Code 0118 (Aerial Application of Agricultural Pesticides). Ensure that the spray mixture is distributed evenly over the target area and that the loss of spray material during application is restricted to a minimum. It is therefore essential that the following criteria be met: Volume: A spray mixture volume of 30 l per hectare is recommended. As this product has not been evaluated at a reduced volume rate, the registration holder cannot guarantee efficacy, or be held responsible for any adverse effects if this product is applied aerially at a lower volume rate than recommended Droplet coverage: 25 to 35 droplets per cm² must be recovered at the target area. Droplet size: A droplet spectrum with a VMD of 280 to 300 microns is recommended. Limit the production of fine droplets less than 150 microns (high drift and evaporation potential) to a minimum. Flying height: Maintain the height of the spray boom at 3 to 4 metres above the target. Do not spray when aircraft dives, is in a climb or when banking Use suitable atomising equipment that will produce the desired droplet size and coverage, but which will ensure the minimum loss of product. The spraying system must produce a droplet spectrum with the lowest possible Relative Span. Position all the atomisers within the inner 60 to 75 % of the wingspan to prevent droplets from entering the wingtip vortices. The difference in temperature between the wet and dry bulb thermometers, of a whirling hygrometer, should not exceed 8 C. Stop spraying if the wind speed exceeds 15 km/h. Stop spraying under turbulent, unstable and dry conditions during the heat of the day. Spraying under temperature inversion conditions (spraying in or above the inversion layer) and/or high humidity conditions (relative humidity 80 % and above) may lead to the following: - reduced efficacy due to suspension and evaporation of small droplets in the air (inadequate coverage). - damage to other sensitive crops and/or non-target areas through drifting of the suspended spray cloud away from the target field. Ensure that the Aerial Spray Operator knows exactly which fields to spray. Obtain an assurance from the Aerial Spray Operator that the above requirements will be met and that relevant data will be compiled in a logbook and kept for future reference. Use restrictions: Chemical resistance. Certain localities do have strains of American Bollworm which are resistant to control by synthetic pyrethroids. In order to prevent proliferation of the resistant American Bollworm strains, the following guidelines must be applied for their treatment: o COTTON: Apply synthetic pyrethroids (including SENTRY EC) only between the period 1 st January to 1 st March o ALL OTHER CROPS: Do not apply more than 2 applications per growing season. Do not respray a suspected pyrethroid control failure with any synthetic pyrethroid even at corrective dosage rates. Use a product from a different chemical group (non-pyrethroid). Efficacy on dry soil. Most often cutworm damage in lands with a dry surface soil, can only be detected by the withering of emerging seedlings. Under such dry conditions feeding (stem severance) takes place below the surface. Under conditions of dry or drying soil surfaces, pyrethroids may not provide adequate cutworm control as the caterpillars do not move above the soil surface and do not come into contact with the SENTRY EC/01/07/
chemical. Under these conditions SENTRY ECshould only be reapplied when the soil surface becomes moist again. CROP PEST DOSAGE DIRECTIONS FOR APPLICATION AFFORESTATION: Eucalyptus Pine Forestry Proteas Willows Acacias Wattle Poplars Oaks Pine tree emperor moth (larvae) (Imbrasia cytherea) Wattle bagworm (Kotochalia junodi) Willow emperor Moth (Gonimbrasia 35 ml/ha 70 ml/ha 70 ml/ha Apply aerially in 30 l/ha Hand spray on young trees. NOTE: Certain minimum tillage practices can encourage the build up of excessive cutworm populations. Where such practices are followed it is recommended the cutworm population should be carefully monitored after the initial application, as a follow-up treatment may be indicated. In this case it is recommended that an overall corrective treatment is applied at the appropriate dosage rate. See the Use Restrictions for a description of conditions during which poor control of cutworms can be expected. 5 ml / 100 l 10 ml / 100 l 5 ml 100 l Corrective spray. Do not apply before 75% petal drop. Will also control Codling moth, leaf rollers and suppresses weevils. Warning against resistance: See Use Restrictions High volume application: Apply 125 to 175 ml SENTRY EC/ha. Apply two sprays: the first at 75 % petal drop and the second 4 weeks later. a third spray can be applied in mid January to prevent late season damage. High volume application: Apply ml SENTRY EC/ha. This treatment will also provide corrective control of American bollworm and codling moth. Apply as full cover spray commencing the first spray at 75 % petal drop. Repeat application after days in situations where pest pressure is high or where pheromone traps indicate potential pest outbreaks. Repeat less frequently in orchards with lower pest pressures. Will also control American Bollworm, leaf rollers and suppress weevils (snout beetle). High volume application: Apply 125 to 175 ml SENTRY EC/ha. Spray when eggs or larvae are seen on plants. Thereafter scout plants regularly SENTRY EC/01/07/
CITRUS COTTON (Agrotis spp) Ants (Anoplolepis custodiens; Pheidole spp.) Bollworm larvae: American ), red and spiny bollworm 250 ml / 1.0 l or repeat sprays at 14 day intervals. Warning against Ground applications: Apply in 300 l /ha. Aerial application: apply in 30 L / ha. (See General Directions under DIRECTIONS FOR USE). See ROW CROPS Only for use in conjunction with Sper Barrier, Attach the Sper to the tree trunk as directed. When the ants become active in the orchards (usually from August to September), the SENTRY EC spray mixture must be applied to the fibrous part of the Sper with a suitable applicator, e.g. an adaptable knapsack sprayer. Apply to the point of run-off. Repeat the SENTRY EC treatment when necessary. Suitable for use in biologically controlled orchards. SENTRY EC should be used as the vital part of an integrated pest management system, where it functions primarily as the preventative measure against all bollworm larvae damage. The system requires weekly scouting for monitoring pest pressure. Either treatment in response to the findings of the scouting practices or a regular weekly spray programme should provide adequate crop protection. In order to comply with the principal pest management and integrated control measures, SENTRY EC is intended to be used during the period from 1 st January to 1 st March. This pest management system should begin when the first flowers appear. This is about six weeks from seedling emergence. i.e. about 6 weeks after emergence The presence of SENTRY EC on Cotton plants may repel bollworm moths and cause less egg laying. Note the General directions under DIRECTIONS FOR USE). I. PREVENTIVE: Base application on scouting: check 24 plants selected randomly per 1-15 ha land weekly from 6 weeks after plant emergence. When scouting reveals the presence of (i) 12 SENTRY EC/01/07/
larvae and Stainers eggs per 24 plants of American bollworm; (ii) 6 eggs per plant of red and/or spiny bollworm; (iii) >2 larvae of bollworms, a spray treatment should be applied. Repeat scouting weekly from flowering until the last bolls split. Regular SENTRY EC sprays for bollworms will also control stainers. Warning against 50 ml / 100 l 50 ml / 100 l (0,5 % to 1 ml / 100 meter row) 50 ml or 62,5 ml or 125 ml / ha Ground applications: Boom and hydraulic nozzles: Apply 200 l/ha of spray mix to mature plants. Proportionately smaller volumes of spray mix can be used on younger or smaller plants (minimum 100 l/ha spray mix on plants <600 mm tall). A minimum of 100 ml/ha of SENTRY EC should be used on mature plants. Tramline treatment: Apply 50 to 100 l / ha of spray mix (depending on plant size). To ensure adequate coverage five nozzles should be mounted on the boom for each tramline. Three overlapping nozzles should be directed downwards to provide coverage over the rows and two should be placed on drop arms so that their spray is directed at 45 0 upwards on either side of the tramlines Mistblower: The lower dosage is for plants <600 mm tall. Use at least 100 ml SENTRY EC/ ha on mature plants. Aerial application: Apply 30 l/ha spray mix. Recommendations as for Mistblower. Bollworms; leaf eaters (Plusia, Spodoptera) II. CORRECTIVE CONTROL MEASURES: Only to be resorted to when exceptionally high bollworm or leaf eater populations are present. SENTRY EC will control pests at different instars, except for red bollworm larvae inside bolls. Take into account all factors which may impede efficacy, i.e. climatic conditions, size and density of plants and stage of development of pests. SENTRY EC/01/07/
A number of days may pass before control is regained. Thereafter normal scouting and weekly treatments should be resumed. Warning against 150 ml / 100 l 150 ml or 300 ml / ha 175 ml or 350 ml / ha Ground application: Boom and hydraulic nozzles: Apply 200 l/ha of spray mix to mature plants. Proportionately smaller volumes of spray mix can be used on younger or smaller plants (minimum 100 l/ha spray mix on plants <600 mm tall).
