Whilst our JG Layflat pipe sales continue to exhibit tremendous levels of growth, much to our surprise we constantly find ourselves informing stockists and installers that are still not aware of its availability. I am pleased that the feedback from installers who have used the product is incredibly positive and throughout the 2016 campaign we will continue to spread the word to all those that still haven t installed it. Since the last issue of The Push-fit People, First quarter has passed us by far too quickly and once again we find ourselves as busy as ever. In 2016 we are set to offer a wide range of apprenticeship opportunities at our West London based manufacturing site, in various engineering fields. The apprenticeship programme is generally at level 3 and would take 3 years to complete, with the first 2 years attending college. During the time students spend with us, they will receive full training, a very competitive salary and the benefits associated with working at an internationally recognised company. Pre-Season Update It s been a busy few months for the JG Speedfit Kawasaki team as they prepare for their assault on the 2016 MCE British Superbike Championship. Retaining the services of James Ellison for another season, the team first signed Peter Hickman to ride alongside James in the BSB series as well as compete for the team on the roads, before announcing a shock signing of World Superbike star Leon Haslam who is returning to the UK series following a number of successful years on the world stage. Now the official Kawasaki team in the UK, the trio have been out testing the all-new Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10R Superbike machine alongside the official World Superbike team ready for the season to kick off at Silverstone on April 8-10th. Fans attending the Carole Nash MCN London Motorcycle Show in February were able to see Peter Hickman pull the covers off the new-look 2016 JG Speedfit Kawasaki, which was pride of place on the Kawasaki stand. 6 PUSH-FIT CASE STUDY PUSH-FIT CASE STUDY HALO After under taking consultations with floor manufacturer, Beamshield, it was ensured that our UFH solution was ideally suitable for the project, providing a safe and secure system for installation. HALO FOR JG SPEEDFIT UNDERFLOOR Located in picturesque Cambridge, Halo is a unique mixed residential development by Crest Nicholson, defined by pioneering construction techniques and great aesthetic. Equipped with our JG Speedfit underfloor heating and heating controls technology, the development makes use of some of the most advanced and energy efficient heat management innovations available. HALO PROJECT Within a close proximity to the historic Cambridge city centre, the Halo development has been created with light and space at the forefront of the design. Housebuilding company Crest Nicholson Eastern appointed principal plumbing and heating contractors, PG Bones, as the plumbing specialist to ensure a smooth process was in operation for the sought-after development. Due to the ambitious design that relies heavily on space, it was impor tant UFH was incorporated within the structure of the building. Underfloor heating allows for maximum living space, meaning P09 Our JG Speedfit technical engineers provided a continuous suppor t and installation advice throughout the entire project, which included guidance on how to best incorporate the system within the original build plan, where we produced CAD drawings to show how the installation should be completed. Russell Dawkins, Technical Manager at Crest Nicholson Eastern, commented: Having worked with JG Speedfit for more than 10 years, we already knew that we were working with a proactive company and they provided the same service for the Halo project. The independently controlled zones provide our customers a level of flexibility that enables them to customise the system around their lifestyle, while the technical suppor t we received means we didn t have any concerns during the process. there is no need for compromise with how much room is left for interior design. Having worked with us for more than 10 years, PG Bones called upon our exper tise to help provide heating solutions for the contemporary build and therefore specified the JG Speedfit Underfloor system. PRODUCTS USED JG SPEEDFIT S INVOLVEMENT With a variety of proper ties ranging from onebedroom apar tments to five-bedroom houses, a total of 41 unique house types required a UFH solution. However, our technical exper ts faced an interesting challenge due to a very unique floor design. Crest Nicholson Eastern used a previously unseen floor construction method. While most housing developments apply block and beam concrete floors - where the blocks are made with concrete the Halo project saw the concrete blocks replaced with polystyrene in the houses, which interlocked underneath the beams. Using polystyrene as a replacement for concrete provided the building with superior insulation, but it also meant that our JG Speedfit team was working with a completely new base for the UFH system. JG Speedfit s screeded UFH system was specified in conjunction with JG Layflat pipe. Compared to traditional radiator installations, our JG Speedfit Underfloor system takes less than a day to install, with the warming effects immediately appreciated. Such speedy installation also allowed the project to be completed in a timely manner. 8 PUSH-FIT ENGINEERING O MARKS SPOT O rings are the most commonly used type of seal in fluid-power systems and are just one of the vital components that make up piping systems. Nigel Sanger, one of our Technical Managers, explains why O rings bring life long performance guarantee to a push-fit plumbing system and advises how installers can ensure they have a high quality and reliable product in their hands. O RING O rings are the part of the pipe connection that is used to make a seal, preventing any risk of leakage from the water inside. It has low insertion forces and allow the pipework and fitting to rotate. This seal guarantees the smooth performance of the plumbing system and helps resist both the internal and external pressures faced. Ensuring that a quality material has been used to mould the O ring will provide a more reliable product, and one that isn t prone to becoming brittle and frail. So how can installers ensure they have a high quality O ring and therefore avoid a system failure? To answer this question, we must investigate the pressure testing they are subjected to and the strength they have. P13 PUSH-FIT SPOTLIGHT STRENGTHS AND PRESSURES One way to understand the strength of the O ring is by looking at the internal pressures they have been designed to work under. For example, our JG Speedfit EPDM rubber O rings are rated at 12bar when used with cold water. As a comparison, this is about 5 or 6 times the air pressure in a typical car tyre, which is between 2 to 2.5bar, and more comparable to the pressure within a lorry tyre which can approach 10bar. Nobody would exceed their recommended tyre pressure by a factor of five, yet on our JG Speedfit internal laboratory tests the O ring is often subjected to fluid pressure tests at 60bar without any failures. Additionally, O rings can sometimes be subjected to high insertion forces when systems are installed, depending on the pipes and fittings chosen, but our JG Speedfit Twist and Lock push-fit fittings have been cleverly designed to minimise insertion force, while our unique Twist and Lock technology then ensures the security of the connection through additional O ring compression. The quality of an O ring is not something most people would consider when installing a plumbing system into a home. However it is becoming more important for plumbers to ensure that the products they use are made of materials, which are tested to the highest standards possible.
