3 General Information Registration Information: Registration is now open for the Eau Claire Area School District High School Summer Program for any student entering grades 9-12 in the school year. Private school students who reside within the Eau Claire Area School District are all eligible to attend. Registration for Band, Choir, and Orchestra will be handled at your high school. All credit recovery courses your student needs to take because they failed will be handled by referrals from Student Services. Credit recovery courses include English 9, 10, and 11, Algebra, Geometry, U.S. History, World Studies, Biology, Civics, Health, Physical Education and Earth Science. Please contact your student s counselor if you have any questions in regard to credit recovery courses. Attendance: Except for emergencies, students are expected to attend all classes. Students who fail to meet attendance expectations, as presented by the teacher, will be dropped from the course. Class Times/Dates/Locations: Please see individual courses. Lunch: Lunch will not be provided by the Eau Claire Area School District. Student Conduct: Students are expected to follow the same standards of conduct that are in effect during the school year. Transportation: Transportation is not provided by the Eau Claire School District. Waiting List: Classes do fill quickly. Then here is your chance. This Strength and Conditioning class will be offered to all high school students entering 9th, 10th, 11th, or 12th grade for the school year. In this class, you will complete workouts that will increase your speed, strength, agility, and explosiveness. The class will be taught by various high-school teachers and coaches. Advanced Strength and Conditioning The Advanced Strength and Conditioning class is the premier physical training class. The primary goal of this class is for the student to make significant gains during the summer months. In order for this goal to happen and to strive to prevent injuries, students who sign up for this class will have specific attendance, behavior, and effort expectations that go above and beyond the traditional Summer Strength and Conditioning classes. Recommended for students in Grades Course #4004 June 13 July 28 Monday Thursday (No class on July 4) 7:00 8:30 Course #4005 June 13 July 28 Monday Thursday (No class on July 4) 9:00 10:30 High Strength and Conditioning Through this course you will have the opportunity to improve your speed, agility, quickness, explosiveness, vertical jump, flexibility, strength, and cardiovascular fitness. Your instructors will provide and guide you through a rigorous training program in a group setting to develop the above mentioned qualities. If you want to work hard, be challenged, develop confidence, and improve your total health along with your physical and mental capabilities this is the class for you! Students can alternate between sessions to fit their schedule. Attendance is not mandatory. Enrollment is open, so students can enroll when they attend the sessions. Please meet on the athletic track 5 minutes prior to start time. We will continue to work with Momentum Sport Fitness/CrossFit 715 in providing a structured strength and conditioning program.

Decorating can be easy with a quick glaze or a smooth buttercream and topped with colorful sprinkles or a more detailed design. Come and try a variety of decorating techniques. (Students must be able to read and follow recipe directions independently.) Using basic techniques, tools, and ingredients you ll learn how to make a variety of candies. Join the fun as we make delicious, gorgeous, and professional-quality candies. (Students must be able to read and follow recipe directions independently.) The Game of Life (Financial Literacy) This class will cover consumer topics on finances and feature guest speakers from the surrounding area. Topics will include: budgeting, income, investments, benefits, buying a car, buying versus renting a home, planning a vacation, taxes, credit cards, identity theft, student loans, college applications, and other financial planning topics. Join this class to get a jump start on your financial future! Multicultural Studies Around the World If you want to learn about world, this is the class for you! Through daily tours throughout the world, you will learn about different counties current events, history, folk tales, and food! This class combines cooking, math, reading stories, watching and discussing videos and clips. Open Library Come to open library hours to check out and return books and use the library computers. Browse the shelves and book displays to find great books for summer reading. Rolling in the Dough Whether rolling dough for pizza, cinnamon rolls, stromboli, dinner rolls, calzone, or any other type of yeast bread it is sure to be fun. Join us as we make a variety of dough for an even bigger variety great tasting and wonderful smelling breads. (Students must be able to read and follow recipe directions independently.) Course #M06 June :00 10:00 Course #M07 June :30 12:00 Course #NH02 June 20, 27 July 11, 18 8:00 10:00 North Candy Making II This class is especially designed for candy lovers. Isn t that all of us? Join us as we explore a variety candy making techniques. Why make your own candy? Well it costs less, fewer preservatives, most ingredients you already have in your kitchen, they make great gifts, and the number one reason they taste so darn good. (Students must be able to read and follow recipe directions independently.) You do not have to take Candy Making I prior to this section. Script Analysis Script Analysis will give high school students the real-life experience of choosing a season for an established theatre program. Each day of class students will read a play representing a different genre. Following the reading students will be assigned a role in one of the following groups: Play Synopsis, Play Critique, Scenic and Technical Design Challenges, and Social Significance. Students will rotate so that they have an opportunity to participate in each of the four groups. Maker Spaces and Fun Tech Explorations Come and explore all sorts of fun technology: 3D Printing, Drone flight, robotics, Makey Makey boards, Hue Lighting. Learn their use and uses.

Take advantage of book talks, online reporting and rating of the books you read, discussion of your summer favorites, and personal time with library staff to help you find the best new books and past award winners. Use social media to promote favorite books. Fun activities to celebrate books and reading. Fun with Fabric Are you a big fan of Pinterest? Just loving those projects you find on Pinterest, see in a store, or find in a magazine? Then this is the place you need to be this summer. Come and hang out with us and make a variety of fabric crafts and projects. (Students must be able to read and follow directions independently.) Simply Sensational Cookies Cookies are easy, enticing and fun. Join us as we make a variety of cookies. Some may already be your favorites and some will be new favorites. Previous cookie baking experience not required just a willingness to have fun. (Students must be able to read and follow recipe directions independently.) Fun with Fabric, Again If Fun with Fabric didn t fit your schedule or you just want to spend more time sewing, join us. Plan to sew something new, finish a project you have already started, or make another project again. What you make will be up to you! (Students must be able to read and follow directions independently.) Travel Through the Kitchen Join us as we prepare a meal from a different regions of the world. We will spend our time together preparing and tasting foods from a variety of cultures. (Students must be able to read and follow recipe directions independently.) Essential Study Skills for Academic Success Join this class to learn effective study skill strategies to be successful in middle or high school and beyond. Topics will include: organizational skills, study techniques and habits, study environment, resources to assist in comprehension of reading material, and other essential study skills. Jump Into AP Jump into AP is a course designed to help students define, develop, and hone skills to enable them to have success in AP courses. We will focus on the development of content reading strategies, multiple choice question answering strategies, Free Response Essay writing skills, and other areas that will aid students in completing AP assessments successfully. Students will be introduced to innovative vocabulary strategies using the research based SIOP model. This course will also introduce students to some of the different topics in psychology including: What is Psychology?--Fields of Study Research Methods The Brain Sensation and Perception Abnormal Psychology Human Emotions and Motivation Human Development Learning Personality Assessment Human Consciousness Resumes, Cover Letters and Career Exploration Join this class to create or edit your resume and cover letter to apply for real-life jobs. You will learn what to include and language to use to help set yourself apart from other candidates. Mock interview questions and how to answer those questions to land the job will be addressed. This class will also feature career exploration where you will take interest inventories and research career fields/post-secondary colleges that meet your needs. You will learn about the costs of schooling, how to apply for financial aid (FAFSA), and what type of scholarship options are available to help you pay for your postsecondary education.

9 Summer Programs Offered Throughout the Community Feed My People Feed My People will again be extending the Weekend Kids Meals program through the summer months. The program provides participating students with food for the weekend when other meal options may not be available. The meals will be offered this summer at various Eau Claire sites including summer school locations, Parks and Recreation River City Adventures at Sam Davey, Flynn, Roosevelt, and Mitscher Parks, L.E. Phillips Public Library, the Boys and Girls Club, and the Community Table. The meals are available to all children who may benefit from the program during the summer. Look for more information including specific dates and times. If you have any questions please contact Suzanne Becker at Boys & Girls Club of the Greater Chippewa Valley The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Greater Chippewa Valley is offering a variety of programs for youth and teens ages 8-18 or going into 3 rd -12 th grade. Some of the courses offered will be Youth for Unity, Club Cuisine, Serve n Learn, Sports Club, Club Tech, Science Explorers, Drama Club, Reading Champs and Game Tournaments. Please note that your child must be a Boys & Girls Club member in order to utilize this service. If you are interested in these opportunities, please call the Boys & Girls Club at for more information or to register. Annual Boys & Girls Club membership dues are $15 per year per child or $30 per year per household. The ECASD summer school program at the Boys & Girls Club runs from 9:00am 11:45am daily and is free to ECASD students. Students wishing to spend the rest of their day at the Boys & Girls Club must pay a weekly fee of $50 per child. Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild The Chippewa Valley Theatre Guild is offering theatre arts classes through their annual Summer Youth Drama Camp, which provides a variety of classes for children ages Students will have the opportunity to explore all aspects of theatre arts and may choose from a variety of classes including acting, singing, dance, improv, playwriting, stage makeup, backstage tech, musical theatre, storybook time, and array of fun movement classes. The weeklong classes will run June 13-17, June and June 27-July 1 at the Theatre Guild s facility, The Grand Theatre, at 102 West Grand Avenue in Eau Claire. Students in the Eau Claire Area School District will be able to take these classes for free. The Theatre Guild also offers their annual two-week High School Shakespeare Theatre Workshop for students ages The workshop runs from 9am 4pm, July & July at the Grand Theatre, 102 West Grand Avenue in Eau Claire. On the evenings of July 28 and 29, the students will perform for families, friends and the community. The workshop is great for those who love to be on stage and/or those who are interested in backstage/tech activities. No experience is necessary. Students in the Eau Claire Area School District will be able to take this workshop for free. Eau Claire Children s Theatre Eau Claire s premiere presenter of plays and musicals for young people, the Eau Claire Children s Theatre has been offering a wide range of summer classes for children and adults since Course fees are waived for selected ECASD summer school courses noted in the Eau Claire Children s Theater brochure. Some courses being offered are Celebrate Summer with a Show, Drama Camp, Show Choir Prep, and Triple Threat. Classes are conveniently held in downtown Eau Claire at 1814 Oxford Avenue. You cannot register for the Eau Claire Children s Theatre programs through the Eau Claire Area School District. 10 Eau Claire Parks and Recreation The Eau Claire Parks and Recreation Department will be offering various instructional programs for Eau Claire Area School District school-age students this summer. Programs offered include; Camp Summertime Special Populations Program, River City GOLD - Leadership Development for teens, T-Ball, Tennis, Golf, Flag Football, Introduction to Hockey, Kubb, Pickleball, Art, Babysitting, Cooking, Outdoor Adventure, River City Adventures, Tumbling/Apparatus, Running Instruction, Sailing, Lifeguard Training, Red Cross Swim Levels 1-6, Aquatics Specialty Skill Classes, and Adaptive Swim. Information concerning program schedules and registration is in the Eau Claire Parks and Recreation spring/summer edition of Prime Times available March 15th. The Prime Times publication, a complete class list, and online registration are available on the Parks and Recreation website at (select the Active Net icon). Classes offered do require a materials and supply fee. Youth in the Eau Claire Area School District are not required to pay the full program fee for classes with the partnership symbol. Pre-registration for all classes is required. Registration will begin on Wednesday, April 6th. All classes do have enrollment limits so early registration is encouraged. Phone: (715) The Eau Claire Area School District will not accept Parks and Recreation summer program registrations. University of Wisconsin Eau Claire Upward Bound Upward Bound, a federally funded program offered through UWEC, serves students in grades 9-12 in a 30-day program from mid-june to the end of July, It identifies and assists promising high school students who face barriers to completing high school and enrolling in post-secondary institutions. You cannot register for Upward Bound through the Eau Claire Area School District. For more information, phone the Upward Bound office at Most participants are referred through their high school counselors. Youth Leadership Eau Claire Program The Eau Claire Area Chamber of Commerce is offering incoming eleventh graders the opportunity to enhance their knowledge and develop leadership skills that will improve and motivate them to become involved and committed to their community. The program begins with a 2-day overnight retreat in northern Wisconsin on July 28 July 29, 2016 followed by eight 1-day sessions during the school year. Applications are available on the Chamber s website at (click on Chamber Educational Foundation then Youth Leadership Eau Claire) or call The deadline to apply for this program is April 8 th and there is a limit of 36 students. You cannot register for this course through the Eau Claire School District. University of Wisconsin Youth Leadership PreCollege Camp The goal of this two-week pre-college camp is to prepare 35 8th 11th graders for higher education, improve students academic success, increase students knowledge of the Hmong language and culture, and prepare students to be leaders. Students will stay in a university dorm, learn math, English, Science, leadership, Hmong language literacy skills and history through class lectures, field trips, hands-on activities and discussion. This camp runs July 9- July 23, Students must be eligible for Free or Reduced Price School Meals to receive a DPI Precollege Scholarship to attend this camp for free. 11 Eau Claire YMCA The Eau Claire YMCA will be offering various instructional and enrichment programs for Eau Claire Area School District school-age students this summer. Various program offerings are available for elementary, middle and high school students. Programs offered include; the YMCA Athletic Enhancement Program (ages 12 & up), Writer s Voice, Junior! (ages 7-11), Writer s Voice! (ages 11-14), Explore! Junior STEM Institute (ages 7-11), Explore! STEM Institute (ages 11-14), Young Artists Studio (ages 11-14), Babysitter Training (ages 10-15), Y-Rep Productions (ages 8-14), Intro to ASL (ages 7-11), Learn a Language: Intro to French (ages 7-11), Learn a Language: Intro to Spanish (ages 7-11). Sport instructional programs are offered for K-2 nd grade and 3 rd -5 th grade and they include; basketball, volleyball, football, and racquetball. Information concerning program schedules and registration is in the Eau Claire YMCA spring/summer program brochure that is currently available online. A complete list of Eau Claire YMCA summer school programs can be found on our website (select the summer school link on the top of the homepage). Many of the classes are available for free, but some do require a materials and supply fee. Financial assistance is also available. Pre-registration for all classes is required.
