3 BACKGROUND WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA A boyhood visit to Arlington National Cemetery left a big impression on Morrill Worcester one he never forgot. Decades later, in 1992, his company's surplus of 5,000 wreaths and his desire to have them placed at Arlington kicked off an annual tribute that went on quietly for over ten years. With national interest in the project having grown so greatly, in 2007 a dedicated group of volunteers formed Wreaths Across America as a non-profit 501-(c)3 to continue and expand the mission to Remember, Honor, and Teach.

6 Detroit Metro Chapter Project We are a fund raising unit established with the WAA and can support the activities at the Great Lakes National Cemetery (GLNC). We can obtain wreaths for $15.00 each and receive $5.00 refund for each wreath purchased for the Chapter. Other MISSAR Chapters who submit checks to the DMC for the Wreaths Across America program will receive their portion of the refund from the DMC, based upon the number of wreaths they purchased/ sponsored. (*If your Chapter will be sending checks to DMC, request consolidation of checks to the extent possible, and be sure the Chapter is identified in a listing or cover letter, with mailing address for the person we should mail the refund check to) We can personally be involved with the laying of the wreaths at the GLNC in Holly on Saturday, December 15 th at 12:00 noon, along with other MISSAR Chapters, friends, associates, business partners, and members of our State Color Guard and the community.

7 Materials Available for Each of Us Each Compatriot will have the sign up materials for one or more wreaths and the receipt for the donation. The form can be copied and will also be available in an attachment. We need to purchase wreaths between now and November 22 and get the orders in to the DMC Secretary to forward to WAA before Nov. 25 th. Then all Michigan SAR members can be a part of the group to lay wreaths on December 15 th. We suggest each group keep detailed records of all donations and donors on the form provided, and that each Chapter send thank-you notes to all donors.

9 This Project will be our support to our Veterans There is a packet for each of you to take with you. If you choose you can ask Chapter Compatriots, friends, associates or businesses to purchase a wreath(s), and give them a receipt for their donation. The Detroit Metro Chapter will purchase wreaths for the this year s project and we hope many of our compatriots will purchase one or more as well. Tom Reardon will collect the donations and any specific information and send it on to WAA.

10 Our Refund will Support the VSC The DMC will use the $5.00 refund for each wreath donated to support the Veterans Support Chapter in Clinton Twp. (Previously: Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 154) We will present the refund to them early in DMC President, Joe Williams, presents a check for $ to Brian Bobek, Pres. Of VVA Chapter 154 in 2017
