4 Main Identification (MID) Sign Ordering Information for all Image Elements of a MID Sign: Company: Everbrite Sunoco Account Representative: Jason Schmieden Phone Number: Fax Number: jschmieden@everbrite.com Website: Standard Systems For renderings of all Sunoco standard MID sign systems, please go to Sunoco standard MID sign systems include 5, 7, and 9 wide twin pole goalposts with a traditional diamond mounted on top. All standard poles are design to withstand 90mph wind loads. If a locality has higher wind load requirements, custom poles meeting these requirements can be ordered from Everbrite. The cabinet hierarchy is as follows (from the top to bottom): Official Fuel of Nascar, LED price sign, car wash (if applicable), distributor strategy (if applicable), and LED reader board (if applicable). No visible gaps are allowed to exist in between cabinets. Please see Figure A-1 for reference. Figure A-1. 7 wide LED Goalpost MID Sign System with 9 wide Diamond Sunoco Retail Image Guidelines_Rev6_ doc Page 4 of 93

5 When mandated or when a goalpost identification system is not permitted, a standard Sunoco monument sign may be installed. The Sunoco logo cabinet would be installed closest to the street in the upper corner of the monument. The Official Fuel of Nascar cabinet should be installed below the Sunoco logo cabinet. The LED price cabinet should be installed in the upper section of the monument adjacent to the Sunoco logo cabinet. Any ancillary or distributor strategy cabinet should be installed below the LED price cabinet. Please see Figure A-2 for reference on a standard monument sign. Figure A-2. Monument Sign Diamond Sign versus Logo Cabinet There are two allowable image elements on top of each MID goalpost system. The Sunoco standard is the free standing Diamond sign. Diamond signs should be mounted via the match plate and (4) 5/8 mounting bolts. These are shipped with every order. A steel cross bar with a stub pole for the diamond is typically mounted to the top of the goalpost system. Figure A-3 shows an unpainted steel cross bar with a stub pole while Figure A-4 shows a painted cross bar with a diamond mounted on the stub pole. The tip of the diamond should always be installed so that it points towards the dispensers. Figure A-3. Steel Crossbar with Stub Pole Sunoco Retail Image Guidelines_Rev6_ doc Page 5 of 93

6 Figure A-4. 7 Sunoco Diamond Sign Whenever a Diamond Sign is not permitted by the local municipality officials, an internally illuminated Sunoco Logo Cabinet may be installed as a second option for the top element of the goalpost system. Where permitting regulations only allow re-facing of existing MID sign systems, this option may also be used. Figure A-5 shows a between pole, internally illuminated Sunoco Logo Cabinet. Figure A-5. Sunoco Logo Cabinet Official Fuel Of Nascar Cabinet For Distributor locations, the OFN cabinet will typically be installed underneath the steel cross bar. This cabinet should be installed so that the bolt is at the bottom of the slot inside the cabinet. This will minimize the gap in between the top of the OFN cabinet and the bottom of the steel cross bar. If any gap exists, it should not be more than 1. If there is a gap greater than 1, pictures should be taken and submitted to the Sunoco Image Coordinator. The slots in the cabinet should be modified or new holes drilled to properly install the OFN cabinet so that the top of the cabinet is as close to the bottom of the steel cross bar as possible. Please see Figure A-6 for an example of an incorrect installation. Please see Figure A-7 for an example of a correct installation. Sunoco Retail Image Guidelines_Rev6_ doc Page 6 of 93

8 Distributor Strategy Panels Distributors have the option of adding a custom strategy panel to the MID sign system. This panel will typically be installed below the price cabinet. Figure A-8 shows an example of the various kinds of strategy and sub-strategy cabinets available to be ordered through Sunoco. For the most recent strategy panels, please refer to Figure A-9 shows an example of a distributor strategy panel. Figure A-8. Strategy and Sub-Strategy Panels Figure A-9. 9 LED versus Non LED Internally Illuminated Price Signs Light Emitting Diode technology is Sunoco s primary standard for illuminated price signs. The LumiDigit-2 price signs are installed directly below the OFN cabinet with no visible gaps. White letters and red digits are the Sunoco standard for all gas products. Yellow letters and green digits are the Sunoco standard for diesel products. The posted grades of gasoline are always Regular, Plus, and Ultra 93. Figure A-10 shows an example of a two product LED price sign. Fluorescent tubes are used to illuminate each cabinet as well. Figure A-10. Two Product LumiDigit 2 Price Sign When LED technology is not allowed, internally illuminated price signs may be installed directly below the OFN cabinet with no visible gaps. Figure A-11 shows both a three product and a one product internally illuminated price cabinet. Fluorescent tubes are the only lighting source used to illuminate these cabinets. Figure A-11. 10 High Rise Diamond Sign Traditional diamond signs come in widths of 7, 9, 11, 16, and 22. Figure A-12 shows the various diamond sign widths and square footage as well as the standard heights of the pole systems. The 16 and 22 wide diamonds are typically used for high rise signs along the interstate. The poles are to be painted the Sunoco Onyx Gray color. Please refer to the section Paint Specifications for the latest paint information. Figure A-13 shows an example of a typical high rise sign. This figure can also be viewed at Figure A-12. 12 Canopy The standard Sunoco Image on the canopy consists of illuminated Sunoco sign boxes, red vinyl, blue vinyl, horizon graphics, checkered flag graphics, and Official Fuel of Nascar decals. There should be a smooth, flat, seamless fascia in place before installing any Sunoco image material on the canopy. Sunoco will only accept Optimal and Satisfactory canopy fascia conditions before any Sunoco image material can be installed on the canopy. Please refer to section in the Sunoco Image Conversion Process Document for a more detailed description on the acceptable fascia conditions. Figures A-14 and A-15 show examples of non compliance with regards to the Sunoco Image. The only case where Sunoco Onyx Gray vinyl (also called 3M Pearl Gray) should be used is when the fascia height is greater than 48. If the fascia height is greater than 48, the gray vinyl should be installed on the top and bottom of the graphics as shown in Figure A-14. However, this theme should continue around the canopy corners. This theme should also be used for building and car wash fascias. Figure A- 15 shows an incorrectly ordered and installed flush mounted illuminated Sunoco sign box. Figure A-14. 14 Design & Permitting For Diesel and Gas Canopies Figure A. 16 shows the various canopy configuration layouts. The canopy image will depend on the following conditions: location of canopy relative to primary and secondary streets, the dispenser layout (stacked versus dive-in), and overall dimensions of each canopy façade. If the site will be selling Sunoco branded diesel and the diesel dispensers are under a separate canopy, this canopy will be upgraded to the Sunoco standard image. Sunoco branded diesel canopies follow the same design guidelines as gas canopies. All of the diesel dispensers will receive Sunoco standard diesel door graphics as well as Sunoco valances. If the site will be selling a different brand s diesel, the diesel canopy and dispensers may be left as is. If the site will be selling unbranded diesel, the canopy can be left alone or given a blue vinyl wrap if desired by the distributor and approved by the Sunoco Image Coordinator. 26 Figure A. 17 shows the Sunoco standard canopy image permit hierarchy. Permit Style 1 should be used whenever possible. If permit restrictions limit the amount of signage square footage, permit styles 2, 3, and 4 should be referenced for image design purposes in that order when applying for image permits. 27 Rounded Corners Ordering Information for 24 Radius Canopy Corner: Company: Madison Sunoco Account Representative: Jessica McCurdy Phone Number: (770) Ext Website: Canopy corners should be rounded to a 24 radius whenever perimeter steel does not prohibit this. If there is an I-beam located at the corner of the canopy and the existing ACM is satisfactory, the corners should not be modified. If the existing ACM is unsatisfactory, the option of building out the new ACM so that rounded corners can be installed should be evaluated with the Sunoco Image Coordinator. When rounding the corners, the gutter system should be re-routed accordingly so that no leaks are present after the installation. There should be no exposed rivets, jagged, or corrugated edges on the outer perimeter of the corners. Please see Figure A-18 for examples of correct and incorrect installations of a 24 radius corner. Figure A-18. Rounded Canopy Corners Sunoco Retail Image Guidelines_Rev6_ doc Page 27 of 93

28 Illuminated Sunoco Canopy Sign Box versus Sunoco Decal Ordering Information for SUNOCO Illuminated Canopy Sign Boxes: Company: Madison Sunoco Account Representative: Mark Gladden Phone Number: (770) Ext Website: When imaging the canopy, the primary image element is the illuminated Sunoco canopy sign box. The length of the box is 11 9 while the height should match the existing height of the canopy fascia. Depending on the configuration of the canopy relative to the street, this sign box can be installed in three different locations. It can be installed so that it is centered over the canopy column, centered in the middle of the side of the fascia, or 2 from the canopy edge. Please refer to the Design & Permitting For Diesel and Gas Canopies section for direction on proper placement. Figure A-19 shows a Sunoco standard canopy sign box. Figure A-19. 29 Ordering Information for SUNOCO Canopy Decals, Horizons, Checkered Flags, and OFN Decals: Company: Pro Sign Company Sunoco Account Representative: Ashley Rassow Phone Number: (610) Ext. 109 Fax Number: (610) Website: When permit restrictions do not allow an illuminated canopy sign box or illuminated channel letters, a SUNOCO decal should be installed. This decal (along with any vinyl, checkered flags, OFNs, and Horizons) should never be installed so that it covers the gap in between to canopy fascia panels. The decal should be cut vertically from top to bottom and not stretched over the gap in the canopy fascia. The placement of this decal is also dependent upon the configuration of the canopy relative to the primary street. This can be installed so that it is centered over the canopy column, centered in the middle of the side of the fascia, or 2 from the canopy edge. Please refer to the Design & Permitting For Diesel and Gas Canopies section for more detail on placement of the SUNOCO decal. Figure A-20 shows the artwork and dimensions of a standard Sunoco decal. Any alterations made to this decal to accommodate locality permitting conditions must be approved by the Sunoco Image Coordinator prior to permitting. Figure A-20. Typical SUNOCO Decal Three Color versus Two Color Horizons Another main component of the standard Sunoco image on the canopies, building bands, dispenser doors, and dispenser valances are the horizon graphics. Two standard horizon types exist; a three color horizon and a two color horizon. Three color horizons are used to transition blue vinyl to blue vinyl. Two color horizons are used to transition red vinyl to blue vinyl. At no time should any part of the horizon graphic touch any letter in the Sunoco logotype or any letter of the storefront building entrance door decal. This rule should be taken into account when trying to determine what size horizon to use on a particular fascia length. Please refer to the Sunoco Distributor Image Order Form to view a complete list of Sunoco standard horizon sizes (heights, lengths, and directions). Please refer to the Design & Permitting For Diesel and Gas Canopies section for more detail on where to install horizon graphics. Figure A-21 shows the dimensions and types of Sunoco standard canopy horizons. Sunoco Retail Image Guidelines_Rev6_ doc Page 29 of 93

31 Checkered Flags Another image element installed on the canopy fascia, building fascia, dispenser doors, and dispenser valances is the Checkered Flag. There are three standard lengths of canopy/building fascia flags: 16, 33, and 40. Generally, 16 flags are specified for fascia lengths greater than 20 but less than 50. For fascia lengths equal to or greater than 50 and less than 100, 33 flags are specified. For fascia lengths equal to or greater than 100, 40 flags are specified. All flags are made to fade into the Sunoco Blue vinyl or prefinished Sunoco Blue ACM. Each flag starts out at 100% Cyan and gradually fades to the Sunoco Blue color. There are two standard heights: 36 and 48. The 48 tall flags can be trimmed to accommodate fascia heights in between 36 and 48. Figure A-22 shows the various lengths, heights, directions, trimming instructions, and control points of the flag graphics. Figures A-23 and A-24 give more detail on installation guidelines for the checkered flag on the canopy and building fascias. Sunoco Retail Image Guidelines_Rev6_ doc Page 31 of 93

41 Canopy Columns The Sunoco standard for canopy columns requires the removal of all competitive signage and the removal of all existing shrouds with previous brand s colors as well as any extraneous hardware. For any in particular questions regarding what should be removed, please contact the Sunoco Image Coordinator. The canopy columns should then be properly prepped and painted according the Sunoco standard Paint Card. Figure A-28. Prepped Canopy Columns on a Sunoco Branded Diesel Canopy Figure A-29. 42 Canopy Underside The Sunoco standard finish for the gas canopy underside is Sunoco White. The standard finish for the diesel canopy deck is black. Figure A-30 shows a standard gas canopy deck. Figure A-31 shows a standard diesel canopy deck. All canopy decks should be power washed. Canopy decks should only be painted if the underside was previously painted. Figure A-32 shows an example of a deck which should be power washed, dried, sanded, and painted. It also shows an existing 2 x 2 canopy light box that should have been prepped and painted. The damaged lenses should have been replaced. If the existing lenses are not damaged, they can be left in place but must be cleaned. All canopy lights must be fully functional after a imaging project. All lights that are not functional should be noted on the Sunoco Punch List form. For all paint and prepping specifications, please refer to the Sunoco Paint Card. Figure A-30. Gas Canopy Deck Figure A-31. Diesel Canopy Deck Sunoco Retail Image Guidelines_Rev6_ doc Page 42 of 93

49 Fuel Dispenser / Islands Valances and Valance Graphics Ordering Information for Sunoco Standard Valances (Install New Units): Company: Everbrite Sunoco Account Representative: Jason Schmieden Phone Number: Fax Number: jschmieden@everbrite.com Website: Ordering Information for Sunoco Standard Valance Graphics (Re-image Existing Units): Company: Pro Sign Company Sunoco Account Representative: Ashley Rassow Phone Number: (610) Ext. 109 Fax Number: (610) arassow@prosign.net Website: New valances must be ordered when converting an unbranded or previously branded gas station to Sunoco. If the site is currently a Sunoco and has the proper H-style or ovation style valances installed, new valance graphics can be ordered and installed on those valances. Sunoco s standard valance graphics include a three color horizon, checkered flag, Self or Full decals, and number decals. As mentioned above, there are two main types of valances; ovation style and H-style. When new valances are ordered, the horizon and flag graphics will come installed on the units. The Self and number decals must be installed. They should be installed so that the bottoms of the decals are 2 apart from the bottom edge of the valance. The right edge of the number decal should be installed so that it is 2.75 from the right edge of the valance. The Self decal should be centered horizontally on the valance. Figure A-36 shows an incorrectly installed new ovation valance. This valance was installed upside down. The self decal was installed in the incorrect place and the number decal is not the Sunoco standard. Figure A-37 shows a correctly installed ovation style valance with the exception of the Self decal placement. It should have been installed 2 from the bottom of the valance. Figure A-38 shows an incorrectly imaged H-style valance as the numbers are placed on the back of the unit. Figure A-39 shows a correctly installed and imaged H-style valance. When a valance is installed between two canopy columns and the back of the unit cannot be seen, a separate aluminum self sign can be installed on the canopy column as seen in Figure A-40. Aluminum Self Canopy Column Sign Dispenser Door Graphics Ordering Information for Dispenser Door Graphics: Company: Pro Sign Company Sunoco Account Representative: Ashley Rassow Phone Number: (610) Ext. 109 Fax Number: (610) Website: There are many different types of dispensers. New dispensers will arrive with doors that have Sunoco standard graphics. If an existing dispenser will be reimaged with Sunoco graphics, specific door skirts will need to be ordered based upon the existing make and model of dispenser. Include this information as well as the general location of the nozzles (left, center, or right) at the bottom of Pro Sign s order form in the Comment section to ensure the proper dispenser door graphics are ordered. Indicate if the dispenser will be dispensing gasoline only, diesel only, kerosene only, or a combination of various fuels. The various part numbers and descriptions of standard door graphics can be viewed in the Pro Sign s section of the Sunoco Distributor Image Order Form. The previous brand s door graphics must be removed and the surface must be prepped before new vinyl installation can occur. Prepping includes removing all previously existing material down to the original surface so that it is clean, dry, and smooth. If the existing doors are damaged, cannot be prepped properly, or if there are embossed letters of the old brand existing on the door face, new doors with the new Sunoco Image are required to be ordered and installed by the Distributor. If there is any question regarding the existing condition of the door, the Sunooco Image Coordinator should be consulted. Official Fuel of Nascar Decal Sunoco standard building graphics DO NOT include this decal. Storefront Entry Door Decals (Sunoco, Food Mart, etc.) Sunoco distributors may use custom storefront entry door decals but they must match the standard Sunoco font and color as well as be centered over the building entry doors. 74 General Guidelines Figure A-62 shows some design guidelines for building fascia graphics. On the side building fascias, there should be a minimum of 2 of Sunoco Red vinyl before starting the horizon graphic. The smallest acceptable height of a building fascia is 24. The full Sunoco image will not be installed on any building fascia height below 24. When faced with a fascia height larger than 48, Sunoco Onyx Gray vinyl should be installed in equal heights on the top and bottom of the 48 tall Sunoco graphics.
