4 Message from the Manager (cont.) Page 4 of 6 Green Tips 1. Make sure your washing machine is full. Don t use the washing machine with half a load unless you have the option and you are sure that this size is correct. Even better, invest in a high efficiency washer. A lot of money and water is saved by maximizing your efforts. 2. Wash your clothes with cold water. It is unnecessary in most cases, to wash your clothes in hot water. Most of the energy used by the washing machine goes into heating the water rather than any other part of the process. Want to save energy? Start with cold water. 3. If you have a leaky faucet, make sure you fix it straight away! Leaky faucets can waste gallons of water costing you and the earth. You can check whether you have a leak or not by checking your water meter at regular intervals when you are not using the water. If the readings are not identical then there is likely to be leak. 4. Mulch your plants to save water. Mulch ensures moisture is kept in the soil, reduces erosion, help s to moderate the soil s temperature and prevents weeds. Place a few layers of organic mulch over the roots of plants and trees to help hold as much water as possible.
