Vuores neihgborhood A green district in the south part of Tampere, middle of natural woods and waterbodies Currently 3000 people -> 2030, people and jobs Vuores storm water management system is one of the largest in Nordic countries and the most North of the world. Constraction phase started in 2009 with a housi

Series of Design Thinking workshops in case area Visioning Ideating Testing 6 workshops active participants

UNaLab project ,4 milj / 3 years Funded by European Union Tampere as a Frontrunner city two case areas Vuores Hiedanranta Focus: Develobing further innovative nature based stormwater management Monitoring performance in north climate conditions Finding innovative business models for the implementation of the NBS in the future
Online monitoring in Vuores Measurement devices to monitor performance of Vuores stormwater management systems Online monitoring, seasonal variation, key indicators
New business models to fund more NBS on private blocks Innovation vouchers Housing companies, co-creation of plot-scale NBS
Better solutions on public areas Biofilters Management of water quality Main challenges with the natural sulphur consisting soil sulphate load to streams and lakes

Co-creation workshops 2018 visioning, Ideating and testing with residents and stakeholders
Stormwater Day at the School of Vuores Participatory design game and LEGO serious play to raise awareness of NBS collect ideas to develop NBS further to give the pupils tools to monitor water quality and biodiversity
Urban Nature Blue and Green Vuores Workshop Participatory design game Residents and other stakeholders received information on the NBS Experts received information on user experience and willingness to participate in cocreation/maintaining of the NBS
The Nature Trail and the Blue and Green Treasures of Vuores Identifying the real needs of the different stakeholders involved
Elements which contributed to success Vuores was built on a greenfield area and there was pressure to make the area environment friendly. The housing fair area gave resources to build a large storm water management system. Co-creation process with different stakeholders has given us a change for mapping different viewpoints for further development of existing NBS. Co-creation process also increased social cohesion. Active citizen society and NGOs have been actively taking part to cocreation process and also helped the progress of nature trails and urban gardening in the area.
