1 Volume 2: Assessment of Environmental Effects 237 Part G: Assessment of Effects on the Environment 11 Environmental Effects Assessment 11.1 Types of Effects Anticipated The proposed works can be summarised, as follows: SH1 westbound route improvements: new direct link from Paterson Street to Tory Street via a bridge; improvements to SH1 westbound intersections with Paterson Street, Sussex Street and Taranaki Street; and increasing Buckle Street and Karo Drive to three lanes. SH1 eastbound route improvements: improvements to the intersection of Vivian Street and Pirie Street with Kent/Cambridge Terraces; improvements of Vivian Street between Tory Street and Cambridge Terrace (introduction of clearways); and, re-alignment of SH1 around Basin Reserve to bring SH1 eastbound traffic to the north of the bridge and to separate local traffic from SH1 traffic. related local road network improvements; walking, cycling, and public transport improvements; urban design and landscape treatments that create over 1 hectare of new and improved open space (which is designed to read as a continuation of the NWM Park); a new Northern Gateway Building and landscaping within the Basin Reserve; improvements to the car parking facilities at the St Joseph s Church; improvements to the car parking area of Regional Wines and Spirits; and the building under the bridge on the corner of Kent Terrace and Ellice Street. It should be noted that the above describes the overall Project. The designation boundary does not include Vivian Street or Pirie Street improvements as these works are entirely within legal road and permitted activities. It should be emphasised that works within the Project Area but outside of the designation boundary facilitate the outcomes sought by the application and assist the achievement of the Project objectives.
