European Territorial Cooperation The EU's structural and investment policy Supports cross-border infrastructure e.g. job market integration and cultural exchange INTERREG is focusing on three main areas INTERREG three areas: (A) Cross-border cooperation (B) Transnational cooperation (C) Interregional cooperation 10

11 The INTERREG Program Implementation: INTERREG is not centrally managed from the European Commission Nat. and reg. authorities of the involved member states come together with representatives of local authorities, non-governmental organizations, business and social partners and define the development priorities of their relevant programs The implementation happens in specific projects Defining objectives, implement projects and reviewing performance is jointly done by the partners Source: 12

The EU member states are required to fulfill the targets, that are defined in the Treaty of Lisbon (thus social, economical and spacial grow together) INTERREG makes an important contribution to that, therefore thousand of target focused decision makers come together to exchange their experiences and failures from each other Further they achieve concrete results and make investments, that would not happen without the European networking 14
