THIS ASSEMBLY IS NOVEL BECAUSE IN MANY PREVIOUS PROJECTS WHERE STRUCTURAL SOIL HAS BEEN USED:. TREES HAVE BEEN PLACED IN ISLANDS ALONGSIDE PARKING SPACES OR IN ISLANDS BETWEEN DRIVING LANES (EXAMPLE: NAITO PARKWAY). 2. TREES ARE THE FOCUS WITH LITTLE TO NO REGARD FOR STORMWATER MANAGEMENT OPPORTUNITIES VIA INFILTRATION. TYPICALLLY, NATIVE SOILS ARE EXCAVATED TO A DEPTH OF 3 FEET, THE BOTTOM OF THE TRENCH IS HEAVILY COMPACTED, AND THE TRENCH IS BACKFILLED WITH STRUCTURAL TREE SOIL. FOR OUR PROJECT, A GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEER HAS BEEN ENGAGED TO RECOMMEND A PAVEMENT SECTION, BASED ON LABORATORY TESTING AND FIELD INVESTIGATION THAT WILL SUPPORT VEHICULAR LOADS, ON A WET, UNCOMPACTED NATIVE SOIL CONDITION, WHICH WILL REDUCE RUNOFF THROUGH INFILTRATION. WE WANT TO STUDY IF:. SHEET FLOW RUNOFF FROM ABOVE THE TREE WELL ASSEMBLY WILL FLOW INTO A 4-FOOT WIDE PLANTER STRIP AND SPREAD THROUGHOUT A SUBSURFACE FOOT WIDE TRENCH TO INFILTRATE INTO THE NATIVE SUBSOIL. 3. WITH ADEQUATE SOIL VOLUME IN A 2-FOOT WIDE TRENCH, TREE CANOPY WILL BE SIMILAR FOR ALL THREE TREES, EVEN THOUGH ONE TREE IS LOCATED COMPLETELY IN NATIVE SOIL IN THE PLANTER. 4. WATER QUALITY IS IMPROVED FROM THIS MODEST DRAINAGE AREA. Sheet List SC0.0 SC.0 SC2.0 SC3.0 SC4.0 SC5.
