2008 Future New opportunity space for the city
A great city project From an industrial peninsula to a creative island m 2 of surface. Property Public 51% Basque Government 40,4% City Council 10,6% Private 49%
Mixed uses residential, economical activities and public facilities Residential 74 % Social Housing Social Housing (higher price) Free housing Economical activities Productive Private facility Public facility housing units 50% socials Economical activities 26 %
Looking to the future, but preserving our past Investment attraction Decontamination Accessibility Mitigation of climate change Memory Mixture of uses
Preserving the memory Restoration of 320 houses Rehabilitation of 20 industrial buildings Relocation of previous existing activities Downtown of Zorrotzaurre
Preserving the memory 6,6 M invested in public subsidies for the restoration of the existing houses (56% of the real cost). 164 houses have already been benefited of this program.
Preserving the memory Different elements of the dock lands and of the factories will be preserved in the urbanization of the promenades and parks, to maintain the industrial memory of the area.
A sustainable island Decontamination and mitigation of climate change Decontamination Decontamination of m 2 of polluted soils 1,3M financed by the European Union for this purpose. The works have already started Zorrotzaurre is being transformed in an island (flood risk reduction) Mitigation of climate change 100% electric public transport system Sustainable mobility. The buildings will be emission free as we are proposing solutions based on geothermic and heat pumps.
A liveable island Accessible and attractive place to live An island conceived for pedestrians and public transport 7,5km of driveways transformed in promenades An island where there is always something to do housing units, half of them social 12 spaces for facilities Job-training and university buildings Spaces for leisure and sports Green areas 4 tram stations along the island, connecting with the central ring of the city
An attractive island for investment Great space of opportunity for the city of Bilbao It will be focused on priority sectors of Smart specialization for the city CONSOLIDATE IT BASED ON INNOVATION Knowledge Intensive Business Services (KIBS) Tourism & Business Conventions Urban Solutions BOOST A MORE ENTREPRENEURIAL FOCUS Cultural and Creative Industries SUPPORT GROWTH AND THE CREATION OF A NEW BUSSINES NET Digital Economy Technologies for health Priority sectors to be developed intensively during the period
Urban Techno Park Two different spaces are defined for an Urban Techno Park: Southern Techno Park: m2 to be built. Northern Techno Park: m2 to be built. Southern Techno Park new jobs expected Northern Techno Park
SOUTHERN TECHNO PARK NORTHERN TECHNO PARK There will be 19 buildings. Zone New Buildings Existing buildings SOUTHERN TP 8 0 NORTHERN TP 7 4 TOTAL 15 4

New buildings IMQ Zorrotzaurre, the biggest private clinic of the city (designed by the architect Carlos Ferrater)
Urbanization project (1 st stage)
New bridges The Frank Gehry bridge is already built (Arenas and Asociates Eng.) and the bridge of San Ignacio (LKS Eng.) will be finished in 2019
Promenade between Elorrieta and Idom (right river bank of the canal) Pedestrian area: 520m long and 10m wide. Includes a pipe of 1,5 m of diameter and 350 m long to gather rain water while the tide is up
Actual situation of the river bank
San Ignacio square Idom Engineering Company Playground New bridge
San Ignacio square (section) Covered playground
Promenade in Ibarrekolanda (right river bank of the canal, middle part) A promenade of 20 m wide will be built along the river bank. It will be divided in two different levels. The second level will be 1,5m over the other, to preserve the houses from floods. New trees will be planted in the upper level
Actual situation of the river bank
All the new buildings will be built at least 1,5 m over actual level of the island. Because of the length of the island (2,5 Km) and that all land is flat, a complex pumping system has been designed for the sewerage. To avoid the cross of the trash trucks along the island a pneumatic gathering system will be developed. Flood protection wall for the Downtown of the island (1 m high)
Rain water tanks (2.100 m 3 each) with pumping and cleaning systems. The rain water will be used to water the gardens and clean the streets, and will protect the Downtown when the tide is up
