6 A medium-sized city. It is the capital of the Basque Country It has a population of 252,000 and a surface area of 277 sq.km It is surrounded by an extensive natural rural area, with 63 small villages 4 Natura 2000 Network spaces + a Ramsar wetland

18 Objectives 1. Foster the biodiversity of the city, by increasing the spatial and functional connectivity between urban and peri-urban green spaces. 2. Increase ecosystem services in the city, by favoring urban metabolism processes more in line with natural processes, reducing the consumption of natural resources. 3. Integrate ecological and hydrological processes and flows into the urban developed network through adequate planning. 4. Reduce urban heat islands, prevent climate change and improve conditions and processes to adapt to this. Increase the resilience of the city and reduce its vulnerability. 5. Promote public use compatible with green spaces, increase opportunities for leisure and recreation, increase accessibility and country-city connections, preserve the cultural heritage and traditional landscapes and increase a sense of identity. 6. Create environments that favor health, collective well-being and the general habitability 7. Contributes to economic development through green employment.
