1 SSET S S G Balekundri Institute of Technology Belgaum Department of Civil Engineering End Semester Report (Even Semester 2017) INDUSTRIAL VISIT Industrial tour was arranged for 8 th semester students on 23/02/2017 to study about construction of pile foundation for Railway over Bridge (ROB), boring (Helical augering and bucket augering) and concreting of piles. Students along with Prof. Sagar B., Prof. A. Amarnath., Prof. Akshay U., & Mahesh C. visited site under construction at 3 rd railway gate, old PB road, Belagavi. Prof A Amarnath explained about the methods and equipments used for drilling the bore hole, type of soil strata encountered, type of pile under construction & concreting of the pile. 1. Prof A. TECHNICAL TALK Association of Civil Engineering Students (ACES) arranged a technical talk on E-Tendering and E-Contract on 9 th March 2017 in seminar hall S. G. Balekundri Institute of Technology Belagavi. The occasion was graced by Principal, Dr. S. S. Salimath, Dr B. R. Patagundi HOD, Civil Engineering Department, Dr. V. M. Devappa ACES Coordinator, faculty and students of Civil Engineering Department, SGBIT. Er. Manoj N. Charantimath, Retired Deputy Chief Engineer was the chief guest. In his lecture he mainly stressed and explained about E-tendering of various projects in government sectors. He also explained in detail about different types of contracts based on estimated costs of the projects. Finally access of E-tendering through online was also highlighted. The Principal Dr. S. S. Salimath delivered the presidential remarks.

4 TECHNICAL TALK The LEAD Cell, National Service Scheme and Association of Civil Engineering Students jointly organised INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FORESTS AND WORLD WATER DAY on 21/03/2017. The occasion was graced by the presence of Principal Dr. S. S. Salimath, Dr B. R. Patagundi HOD, Civil Engineering Department, Dr. V. M. Devappa ACES Coordinator, Dr.Veeranna D.K., LEAD Cell and NSS Program Officer, faculty and students of Civil Engineering Department, SGBIT. Er. P. M. Ganiger, Superintendent Engineer (Retired), Public Works Department addressed the gathering. Every year the world loses 164 million cumec of water. Only five countries contribute which is unfortunately led by India. This includes India s 64%, China s 18%, USA s 8%, North Africa s 6% and Saudi Arabia s 4%. On an average every year India receives 400 Million Hectare meter of water from rain & from snowfall, 20 Million Hectare meter as surface water from outside the countries. India has enormous amount of water theoretically as much as 173 million hectare meter which is lost as evaporation or becomes soil moisture, which can be captured directly as rain water or as runoff from small catchments. Er. Amrut Charantimath, Civil Engineer by profession and well known Wild Life Photographer graced the occasion as a Guest of Honour. He told that in Western Ghats only 12% trees are useful for feeding the birds and animals of the forest, the remaining 24% of trees are acacia. Now it is time for all of us to change the Nursery Rhymes like Rain Rain Go away to, Rain Rain Come early. A small awareness programs by youth to educate the general public about the optimal utility of water may be initiated to help the society at large. The Principal Dr. S. S. Salimath in the presidential remarks said it is time to design an eco system where the priority should be given for sustainable development of the environment. He suggested all students to celebrate their birthdays by planting and watering at least one tree on the eve instead of wasting on cakes.

6 INDUSTRIAL VISIT Industrial tour was arranged for 6 th semester students on 27/02/2017 to study about construction of Fly over, pile foundation for Railway over Bridge (ROB), boring (helical augering and bucket augering), concreting of piles. Students along with Prof. Spurti M., Prof. Vidyashree H. & Prof. Vishwanath C. visited site under construction at Old P.B. Road, 3 rd railway gate, Belagavi. Site Engineer Mr. Vinod explained about the collection of soil samples for testing, Excavation, placing of reinforcement of pile foundation, concreting of pile foundation and equipments used for drilling the borehole. 7. INDUSTRIAL VISIT Industrial tour was arranged for 6 th semester students on 20/04/2017 to Visit Sambra Airport Belagavi and to study about the layout of Airport which includes Runway, Taxiway, Terminal Buildings, Aprons, Hangars etc. Students along with Prof. Santosh Chikkabagewadi., Prof. V. S. Korishetti & Prof. Mahesh Chabbi. visited site. Prof. Santosh C and Prof. V. S. Korishetti explained about Airport Terminology, Aircraft Characteristics, Airport Site Selection and Runway Orientations. 9. Prof. Santosh C. explaining the Airport Terminology to students

The Fire Department Staff giving the Demonstration of use of Fire Extinguisher VALEDICTORY FUNCTION Valedictory function for final year UG & PG students was organised by Association of Civil engineering students (ACES) on 1 st June 2017 in seminar hall at S G Balekundri Institute of Technology Belagavi. Er. Vinay Behere, Consultanting Structural Engineer, Belagavi was the chief guest of function. Dr. B. R. Patagundi, HOD of Civil Department welcomed the gathering. Prof. Akshata M gave introduction about the Chief Guest. Dr. V. M. Devappa, coordinator, ACES highlighted activities organised under ACES. Er. Vinay Behere shared the challenges and opportunities in various fields of Civil Engineering. Also he stressed on various structural softwares used in the field of Civil Engineering. He enlightened the students about pursuing higher studies in the specialised fields of Civil Engineering such as Transportation, Environmental, Geotechnical Engineering, etc. Dr. S. S. Salimath, Principal of SGBIT Belagavi, gave presidential remarks, the need of dedication, integrity and commitment to be developed among budding civil engineers. Prof. Sujata S. proposed vote of thanks. All the faculty and Students of Civil Engineering Department attended the function.

11 World Environment Day World Environment Day was organized by Civil Engineering Department by Prof. Rahul R Bannur & Dr. B. R. Patagundi, HOD of Civil Engineering, on 05/06/2017. The program was inaugurated by the Shri. Mahant Devaru by planting the samplings., Dr. U. C. Kapale, Dean Academic. HODs, Dr. V. M. Devappa, Staff and students of other departments were present in this programme. 15. Mahant Devaru watering the Plant Sapling Faculty Achievements 1. Dr. B. R. Patagundi & Manjunath H. published a paper Performance of Concrete by partially replacing Fine Aggregate with GGBS & Cement with Fly Ash in The Indian Concrete Journal June 2017, Volume 91, No Prof. Akshata A. Mulgund published a paper Push Over Analysis of Multistoreyed Building with Infill Masonry in International Journal of Advanced Technology in Engineering & Science. Volume: 5, Issue 6, June It is also published in the proceedings of International Conference Recent Developments in Engineering Science, Humanities & Management held at NITTTR Chandigarh. 3. Prof. Sagar Waghmare was invited as resource person for KSCST Sponsored workshop for Highschool Teachers, held at Belagum Science Center, Shivbasav nagar, Belagavi. 4. Prof. Sagar Waghmare was invited as resource person for One day workshop on identification of Minerals and rocks, organized by KLE s B. M. Kankanwadi Ayurvedic Institute, Belgavi. 5. Prof. Sagar Waghmare, was invited as as field expert by Mines and Geology Department, Govt. of Karnataka during Geological issue took place at Hangarga, Belagavi also gave interview on effects on recent earthquake to Sakal Marathi news paper.

Prof. Sagar Waghmare, attended meeting with Deputy commissioner of Belagavi Mr. Shashidhar Kerur and some other eminent personalities to discuss on the environmental issues and development to be done in Belagvi on the day of World Environmental Day. Discussion is well printed in Vijay Karnataka headline on 06 June Prof. Sagar Waghmare, attended National conference on Recent trend in social sciences on 2 & 3 Dec. 2016, organized by Shahu mandir mahavedylay Pune. And presented paper on Aqifer Valunaribiity on Karwar Coast, West coast of India, and Landuse and cover changes along west coast of India. 8. Prof. Sagar Waghmare presented paper on Premonsoon study on sea water intrusion using GALDIT Model, Karwar, West Coast of India at International Conference on on Hydraulic and Environmental Systems (ICHES-2017) on 23 to 25 th March At KLE MSCET, Belagavi. 9. Prof A. Amarnath, Prof Sagar. L. Amarnath attended Workshop on Qualitative and Quantitative Analysis in Research using SPSS Organised by KLS Institute of Management Education and Research in Association with AIMS on 27 th and 28 th Februray 2017.

College, Bangalore under the guidance of Prof. Akshata A. Mulgund. 7. Umar Meera and Vedant, students of 6 th semester were in SGBIT team, which won VTU Intercollegiate Football Zonal Tournament held in SGBIT Belagavi. 8. Ashwini H. and Pooja M., students of 6 th semester won 2 nd Prize in paper presentation event held in AITM Belagavi. 9. Anushri J. and Azim, students of 6 th semester won 1 st Prize in paper presentation event held in AITM Belagavi. 10. Kiran Pujari, student of 4 th semester won 2 nd and 3 rd Prize in State and National level Karate Championship held in Hubballi and Kolhapur. 11. Amitkumar, Aparajitha, Kavya M., students of 8 th and 4 th semester Represented Interzonal Hockey tournament (Men and women) of VTU held in SDMCE Dharwad and Bellary Engineering College, Bellary.
