1 The cotton mill in Cannelton provided many of the uniforms for the Union Army during the Civil War. One tower shows the effect of a cannon ball shot from a Confederate gun boat sailing on the Ohio River. Architecture Plus was commissioned to design a new roofing system for the then empty Cannelton Cotton Mill to avoid further deterioration of the historic structure. The work also involved determining the extent of existing stone damage and foundation settlement, and a recommendation on its repair. Years later the facility was turned into a housing development. With this development the structure is assured of remaining with us for decades to come. Client: Historic Cannelton Location: Cannelton, Indiana Size: 20,000 square feet
2 Following a long negotiation period with CSX Railroad, the Princeton Railroad Station was finally deeded to Restore Princeton RR Depot. Tim Henning of Architecture Plus was a member of the board and worked on a pro-bono basis to assist in providing construction documents to receive bids for the restoration of the facility through an Indiana Grant. John Burris, a retired banker and member of the board, worked endless hours in physically restoring the station to its original beauty. Interesting note that the wood overhangs were made of Bald Cypress, a rare wood known for its decay resistance. The building is currently being used as an office. Client: Restore Princeton RR Depot Location: Princeton, Indiana Size: 2,000 square feet
3 Sacred Heart Hospital, built in 1902, was renovated into assited-living apartment units. The unique rooms of this amazing structure demanded special attention and detailing during the design phase, but resulted in very distinctive living spaces. During the dedication ceremony, project manager Mark Henning recalls the excitement of possible tenants as they toured each room, trying to pick a favorite. A new, 16-unit complex was also developed on the same site to offer additional living options. Architecture Plus teamed with Ratio Architects of Indianapolis on this project. Client: Pioneer Development Location: Garrett, Indiana Size: 20,000 square feet
4 Located in historic New Harmony, the Duclos House has a central proximity to all recreational activities and restaurants, and therefore is a favorite retreat for tourists and world artists as a temporary residence. Architecture Plus was commissioned to upgrade the mechanical and electrical components of the house. The kitchen was also modernized. Interior finishes are compatible with period architecture. Client: Red Geranium Enterprises Location: New Harmony, Indiana Size: 1,200 square feet
5 The Green Gothic residence located in historic New Harmony, is a rental property leased through Red Geranium Enterprises. Attention to detail during the remodel of this facility was carefully woven with the mechanical and electrical upgrades required. Interior design included a new kitchen and finishes compatible with the original architecture. Client: Red Geranium Enterprises Location: New Harmony, Indiana Size: 1,500 square feet
6 The Red Geranium Restaurant has offered visitors to New Harmony a peaceful and elegant dining experience for decades. During an eight week shutdown, the facility was completely renovated, giving the restaurant a much-needed facelift. Exterior improvements include a new gabled roof and a new Red Geranium Restaurant sign over the entrance to enhance the once hidden passageway. Inside, the old bar was salvaged and moved into a once private dining area containing an invaluable mural painting on the walls and vaulted ceiling. The old bar room was modified with additional seating area and was dressed up with new leather benches along the walls. New lighting throughout the facility improves the ambiance for customers. A polar ionization filtration system within the HVAC system removes smoke particles and odor from the bar. A 42" plasma television and ipod docking station provide audio/visual entertainment for bar patrons. Client: Red Geranium Enterprises Location: New Harmony, Indiana Size: 9,600 square feet
7 The Gibson County Courthouse was built in 1884 and placed on the National Historic Register by architect Timothy Henning in The Richardsonian Romanesque structure was originally designed by the McDonald Brothers architectural firm located in Louisville, Kentucky. The building is the third courthouse to be built on the Princeton Public Square. The first phase of restoration for this project included masonry re-pointing (tuck pointing) and general water proofing of the exterior. Phase II included cornice repair, removal of lead based exterior paint, and application of new paint to the exterior of the building. Phase III included mechanical, electrical, and plumbing upgrades for energy efficiency. The hot water (originally steam) system, cast iron radiators, and boilers were removed and replaced with a VRF (variable refrigerant flow) HVAC system. Asbestos abatement was part of this project. Client: Gibson County Commissioners Location: Princeton, Indiana Size: 32,800 square feet
8 Greenway Condominiums is located on the Evansville Greenway pedestrian and bicycle corridor. The building is on historic West Franklin Street close to downtown and a busy commercial district. The old manufacturing - warehouse building contains both housing units and a parking garage for residents. The storefront space along West Franklin Street is being maintained for a potential restaurant space. Client: Jeff Kahre Development Location: Evansville, Indiana Size: 16,800 square feet
9 The Huntingburg ballpark was originally built for the production of the move "A League of Their Own". This move captured the essence of women's baseball during the WWII era. As the women's baseball league historic collection had run out of room at Cooperstown, New York, they were looking for additional space for housing their artifacts. Architecture Plus was commissioned to do a preliminary design for a new museum to house these artifacts, a new facade for the existing stadium, and new dugouts. The architecture was designed to be representative of the 1940's era. The two story museum's roof was designed as a viewing deck from which the entire ball field could be seen. 10 Located on the south side of the courthouse square in Boonville, this historic office building has become the primary residence of its Owner. Windows will be opened on the second floor to display the original architecture while providing light and egress for bedrooms. The first floor will be used for kitchen and living spaces.
