1 Advice from Department of Ecology The simplest way to reduce landslide risk is to avoid slideprone areas in the first place. Simple practices such as building a house farther from the edge of a steep slope, maintaining native vegetation above the slope, or inspecting drains annually are important.

37 Landscaping All lots shall be generously landscaped, and consistent with the natural environment of Langley and appropriate to the planned use. Retention of natural landscaping is encouraged. (Ord. 527, 1989)

39 Native Vegetation Removal of native vegetation shall be avoided, where feasible. Where removal of native vegetation cannot be avoided, it shall be minimized to protect ecological functions. If non-native vegetation is to be removed, then it shall be replaced with native vegetation within the shoreline jurisdiction. Bulkheads: Nonstructural measures, such as placing the development further from the shoreline, planting vegetation, or installing on-site drainage improvements, are not feasible or not sufficient;
