Centrum Naukowo Badawcze Ochrony PrzeciwpoŜarowej (Scientific and Research Centre for Fire Protection) Nadwiślańska 213, Józefów, Poland Telephone (+48) Fax.: (+48) TECHNICAL AND USER REQUIREMENTS FOR FIRE-FIGHTING PRESSURE HOSES FOR FIRE-FIGHTING PUMPS according to annex to the Regulation of the Minister of the Interior and Administration of April 27, 2007 on the list of products used for ensuring public safety or protecting health, life and property, and the principles of issuing admittance to use these products (Polish O.J. dated 2007, No. 143 position 1002) introduced by the amending regulation of July 20, 2010 (Polish O.J. dated 2010, No. 85 position 553) Issue: July 2010
On the basis of publications from Polish O.J. dated 2010, No. 85 position FIRE-FIGHTING PRESSURE HOSES FOR FIRE-FIGHTING PUMPS DIVISION AND MARKINGS Sizes Depending on internal diameter, differentiation is made in hose size in mm: 25, 42, 52, 75 and Types The type of hose depends on the kind of couplings supplied: - ŁA with aluminium alloy couplings, - ŁA with copper alloy couplings, - B without couplings Types Depending on the construction of the hose tape, differentiation is made between fire-fighting pressure hoses with or without external coating An example of marking Fire-fighting pressure hose for pump and mounted pumps (W) with diameter of 52 mm (52), length of 20 m (20) and copper alloy couplings (ŁM): W ŁM FIRE-FIGHTING PRESSURE HOSE PERFORMANCE Construction The hose should be equipped with pressure couplings in keeping with the PN-M standard; its size should correspond to the diameter of the hose (for size 42 hose one should use the crown of the 52T coupling and a sleeve with diameter corresponding to the size of the hose). Page 2 / 7
The hose connection with couplings should guarantee tightness and resistance to test pressure Marking The following minimum information should appear clearly on each end of the external surface of the hose: - the manufacturer s mark or name, - marking according to the example shown in point excluding the verbal section, - the year of production PARAMETERS Basic parameters Table contains the basic parameters. Table Un. of Hose size Parameter measu re Maximum working pressure Test pressure bar Bursting pressure (minimum) R bend radius at 10- bar pressure not mm greater than Page 3 / 7
Length increment E L at working pressure External diameter increment E D at working pressure % % 0 5 φ * angle of torsion at working pressure calculated in terms of 1 m length not greater than o /m *) the hose is not permitted to twist anticlockwise. Increment in length, diameter and angle of torsion at working pressure (initial pressure of 0.5 bar) Chief dimensions and mass Chief dimensions and mass are given in Table Table Parameter Un. of meas. Hose size Internal diameter mm Standard length *) m 20 ± 0.5 Page 4 / 7
Max. line mass for hoses without external coating g/m Max. line mass for hoses with external coating g/m *) other hose lengths are permitted in agreement with the purchaser in that hose mass and couplings cannot exceed 50 kg Tightness and resistance to test pressure Pressure hoses subject to test pressure for 2 minutes should not drizzle and should not have permanent or transitory jets of water. During testing the hose should not demonstrate changes in tape structure and other damage along its entire length Resistance to delamination Resistance to delamination in accordance with the PN-EN ISO 8093 standard of textile material and padding, concerning rubber padding this should be less than 1.00 N/mm. For the remaining padding materials resistance should be not less than 1.60 N/mm Accelerated ageing Following the conditioning of hose samples in environmental chambers at (70 ± 1) o C, in air atmosphere over a period of 14 days, bursting pressure should meet the requirements contained in Table of the Annex. Furthermore, following conditioning the resistance to delamination should not be less than 0.9 N/mm. Prior to placing in the environmental chambers the samples of approximately 1 m in length subject to testing for bursting pressure, it is necessary to twist them 180 o in the middle section of their length and to attach them in this manner. The sample which is earmarked for testing resistance to delamination should be rolled up loosely. Page 5 / 7
Resistance to low temperature A hose which is double coiled in dried state, conditioned at air temperature of -30 ± 2 C for 4 hours and removed directly from the environmental chamber should uncoil or unfold easily and once again be rolled up without any folds, cracks and delaminations Resistance to wear Fire-fighting pressure hoses containing an external coating should be resistant to 100 test cycles for wear resistance without leaking. Following the test the hose should stand up to a 2-minute tightness and resistance-to-working-pressure test. During the resistance-towear test the hose should be filled with water at a pressure of 5 bar and should revolve around its own axis at a speed of 27 revs/min. The shoulder with the 60 granularity abrasive paper should be pressed against the surface of the hose with 105 N pressure and moved in the form of reciprocating action along the hose axis with a speed of 18 to 20 mm/second on a 80 mm road, in that the time that the shoulder remains at the turning point is not more than 0.1 second Resistance to high temperature Fire-fighting pressure hoses with external coating should be tested for resistance to flames. A tested hose filled with water at 0.05 bar pressure should stand up to the flame resistance test without any leaking for at least 20 seconds. The heat source should come from a Bunsen burner using propane-butane gas with pressure of 0.1 bar. After turning off the burner the flame (providing that the sample is burning), should go out after not more than 3 seconds. Page 6 / 7
