1 Part 1. General This section identifies mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) equipment naming conventions and acronyms for the A/E to use when identifying equipment in the Contract Documents. Part 2. MEP Equipment Naming Convention The 1 st, 2 nd, 3rd, 4 th and 5 th characters are the equipment type designator. Equipment Type Designator The 6 th character is a dash and serves as a placeholder. Placeholder The 7 th and 8 th characters are the building floor. Building Floor Level The 9 th character is a dash and serves as a placeholder. Placeholder The 10 th, 11 th and 12 th characters are sequential equipment numbers. Sequential Equipment Number Example for a chilled water pump on the 3 rd floor of a building: Chilled Water Pump = CHWP CHWP Example for a secondary chilled water pump on the 1 st floor of a building: Secondary Chilled Water Pump = CHWSP CHWSP Page 1 of 6
