6 SECION FIRE ALARM PAR 1 GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY A. Section includes references to fire alarm control panels (s), fire alarm signaling appliances, and auxiliary fire alarm equipment and power and signal wire and cable. B. Related Sections: 1. Section Minor Electrical Demolition. 1.2 REFERENCES A. National Fire Protection Association: 1. NFPA 72 - National Fire Alarm Code. 2. International Building Code (IBC) Guidelines. 1.3 SYSEM DERIPION A. Fire Alarm System: NFPA 72, SimplexGrinell 4100U fire alarm control panel furnished by Owner. B. Work covered by this Section includes furnishing of labor and materials for repair of fire alarm system as indicated on Drawings and Specifications. C. System power requirements: 1. shall receive 120 VAC power via dedicated fused disconnect circuit. 2. System shall be provided with sufficient battery capacity to operate entire system upon loss of normal 120 VAC power in normal supervisory mode for period of 24 hours with 10 minutes of alarm operation at end of this period. System shall automatically transfer to battery standby upon power failure. All battery charging and recharging operations shall be automatic. 3. All circuits requiring system-operating power shall be 24 VDC and shall be individually fused at. 4. Incoming power to system shall be supervised so that any power failure will be indicated at. Green "power on" LED shall be displayed continuously at user interface while incoming power is present. 5. System batteries shall be supervised so that low battery or depleted battery condition, or disconnection of battery shall be indicated at and displayed for specific fault type. 1.4 SUBMIALS A. Shop Drawings: Owner to provide Contractor with Manufacturer s shop drawings which shall indicate system wiring diagrams showing each device and wiring connection and indicating annunciator layout. C. Product Data: Owner to provide Contractor with Manufacturer s catalog data showing electrical characteristics and connection requirements; system operation description including method of operation and supervision of each type of circuit and sequence of operations for all manually and automatically initiated system inputs and outputs. Contractor to provide list of all input and output points in system with label indicating location or use of IDC, NAC, relay and auxiliary control circuits. D. est Reports: Owner to provide Contractor with Manufacturer s procedures for specified field testing and inspection. E. Manufacturer's Field Reports: Indicate activities on site, adverse findings, and recommendations. F. Submission to City of Madison Fire Department (MFD): In addition to submission of above material, make identical submission to MFD. Include copies of shop drawings as required to depict component locations to facilitate review. Upon receipt of comments from MFD, make resubmissions if required to make clarifications or revisions to obtain approval. 1.5 CLOSEOU SUBMIALS A. Section Basic Requirements: Contract Closeout Procedures; As-Built Drawings and Specifications. B. Project Record Documents: Record actual locations of fire alarm equipment. C. Operation and Maintenance Data: Submit manufacturer s standard operating and maintenance instructions. 1.6 MAINENANCE SERVICE A. 8 B. Verify products and systems receiving devices are ready for installation. 3.2 EXISING WORK A. Maintain access to existing fire alarm equipment and other installations remaining active and requiring access. B. Extend existing fire alarm installations using materials and methods compatible with existing installations, or as specified. C. After system repairs are complete and all operations have been verified: 1. Remove exposed abandoned fire alarm wiring, including abandoned wiring above accessible ceiling finishes. Cut cable flush with walls and floors, and patch surfaces. 2. Disconnect and remove abandoned fire alarm equipment. 3. Clean and repair existing fire alarm equipment to remain or to be reinstalled. 3.3 INSALLAION A. Install system components and all associated devices in accordance with applicable NFPA Standards and manufacturer s recommendations. B. Install complete fire alarm system as described herein and as shown on Drawings. Include sufficient wiring, terminations, electrical boxes, and all other necessary material for complete operating system. C. Persons who are qualified and experienced in installation, inspection, and testing of fire alarm systems shall supervise installation personnel. Examples of qualified personnel shall include, but not be limited to: 1. Factory trained and certified personnel; 2. National Institute of Certification in Engineering echnologies (NICE) fire alarm level II certified personnel; and 3. Personnel licensed or certified by state or local authority. D. System Wiring: Wire and cable shall be type listed for its intended use by approval agency acceptable to MFD and shall be installed in accordance with appropriate articles from current approved edition of NFPA 70 and National Electric Code (NEC). 1. Contractor shall obtain from system manufacturer written instruction regarding appropriate wire / cable to be used for this installation. Contractor shall make no deviation from written instruction without the prior written approval of system manufacturer and Public Works Project Engineer. 2. Color-code fire alarm conductors differently from normal building power wiring. Use one color code for alarm initiating device circuits wiring and different color code for supervisory circuits. Color-code notification appliance circuits differently from alarm-initiating circuits. Paint fire alarm system junction boxes and covers red. Fire Alarm Bid No
9 3.4 FIELD QUALIY CONROL A. Section Basic Requirements: Quality Assurance / Quality Control of Installation; Starting Systems; Demonstration and Instructions. B. est in accordance with NFPA 72 and MFD requirements. C. Manufacturer's Field Services: Owner shall provide factory-authorized service representative to supervise field assembly and connection of components and pretesting, testing, and adjustment of system. D. Pretesting: Determine, through pretesting, conformance of system to requirements of Drawings and Specifications. Correct deficiencies observed in pretesting. Replace malfunctioning or damaged items with new and retest until satisfactory performance and conditions are achieved. E. Final est Notice: Provide ten (10) day minimum notice in writing when system is ready for final acceptance testing. F. Retesting: Correct deficiencies indicated by tests and completely retest work affected by such deficiencies. Verify by system test that total system meets Specifications and complies with applicable standards. G. Report of ests and Inspections: Provide written record of inspections, tests, and detailed test results in form of test log. 3.5 DEMONSRAION AND RAINING A. Furnish 8 hours of instruction each for two (2) Facilities Management personnel, to be conducted at project site with manufacturer's representative. B. raining shall include procedures and schedules involved in operating, troubleshooting, servicing, and preventive maintaining of system. C. 10 SECION MINOR ELECRICAL DEMOLIION PAR 1 GENERAL 1.1 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: 1. Removal of existing electrical equipment, wiring, and conduit in areas to be remodeled; removal of designated construction; dismantling, cutting and alterations for completion of the Work. 2. Disposal of materials. 3. Storage of removed materials. 4. Salvaged items. 5. Protection of items to remain. B. Related Sections: 1. Section Fire Alarm. 1.2 HEDULING A. Schedule work carefully with Facilities Management and Public Works Project Engineer so that no portion of facility is ever without fire alarm protection and that facility is switched over to new equipment one floor at a time. 1.3 COORDINAION A. Section Basic Requirements: Coordination. B. Conduct demolition to minimize interference with occupied building areas. C. Coordinate demolition work with Steve Alwin of Facilities Management and Public Works Project Engineer. D. Coordinate and sequence demolition so as not to cause shutdown of operation of surrounding areas. E. Shutdown Periods: 1. Arrange timing of shutdown periods of in service panels with Owner. Do not shut down any utility without prior written approval. 2. Keep shutdown period to minimum or use intermittent period as directed by Steve Alwin of Facilities Management. 3. Maintain life-safety systems in full operation in occupied facilities, or provide notice minimum three (3) days in advance. F. Identify salvage items in cooperation with Owner. 11 PAR 2 PRODUCS Not Used. PAR 3 EXECUION 3.1 EXAMINAION A. Section Basic Requirements: Cutting and Patching; Protection of Installed Work. B. Verify wiring and equipment indicated to be demolished serve only abandoned facilities. C. Verify termination points for demolished services. 3.2 PREPARAION A. Erect, and maintain temporary safeguards, including warning signs and lights, barricades, and similar measures, for protection of the public, Owner, Contractor s employees, and existing improvements to remain. 3.3 DEMOLIION A. Remove exposed abandoned conduit and wiring, including abandoned conduit and wiring above accessible ceiling finishes. Cut conduit flush with walls and floors. B. Remove conduit, wire, boxes, and fastening devices to avoid any interference with new installation. C. Disconnect electrical systems in walls, floors, and ceilings scheduled for removal. D. Reconnect equipment being disturbed by renovation work and required for continued service. E. Disconnect or shut off service to areas where electrical work is to be removed. Remove electrical fixtures, equipment, and related switches, outlets, conduit and wiring that are not part of final project. F. Install temporary wiring and connections to maintain existing systems in service during construction. G. Perform work on energized equipment or circuits with experienced and trained personnel. H. Remove, relocate, and extend existing installations to accommodate new construction. I. Repair adjacent construction and finishes damaged during demolition and extension work. 12 J. Remove exposed abandoned grounding and bonding components, fasteners and supports, and electrical identification components, including abandoned components above accessible ceiling finishes. Cap abandoned empty conduit at both ends. 3.4 SALVAGE IEMS A. Items of salvageable value may be removed as work progresses. Carefully remove equipment, materials, or fixtures that are to be reused. B.
