3 1. Application The NOVAFLO 2000 is designed to provide visual and audible alarms whenever a predetermined level in storage tanks containing diesel or fuel oil is reached. A set of voltage-free relay contacts are also provided for external indication of an alarm condition. The system consists of a thermistor sensing probe and an IP65 rated weatherproof plastic enclosure containing the visual and audible alarms and the electronic PCB. A Sensing probe of the GWG type is supplied which has an integral 3.2 metre two core cable which may be extended as necessary with a PKVA in-line connector. 2. Operation The NOVAFLO 2000 sensing probe utilises a thermistor which is protected against mechanical damage. When the probe is covered by diesel or fuel oil, the thermistor temperature drops and the voltage across it changes. This change is sensed by the control electronics causing the activation of the alarm circuitry. 2.1 Fail-Safe The unit is designed such that an alarm condition will cause the output relay to de-energise. A loss of power or a sensing probe fault will also cause the output relay to de-energise ensuring fail-safe operation. The unit can be set for high level (HL) fail-safe or for low level (LL) fail-safe via an internal switch on the PCB. The default setting is HL. 2.2 High Level (HL) Fail-Safe High-level fail-safe is intended to prevent the storage tank from overfilling and operates as follows: When the probe is uncovered the output relay will be energised and the green 'normal' LED on the unit will be lit. When the probe is covered the output relay will de-energise, the audible alarm will pulse on and off and the red 'alarm' LED on the unit will be lit. Operating the mute pushbutton will turn the audible alarm off and cause the red 'alarm' LED on the unit to pulse on and off. The relay will remain de-energised when the mute pushbutton is operated. 2.3 Low Level (LL) Fail-Safe Low-level fail-safe is intended to prevent the storage tank from emptying and operates as follows: When the probe is covered the output relay will be energised and the green 'normal' LED on the unit will be lit. When the probe becomes uncovered the output relay will de-energise, the audible alarm will pulse on and off and the red 'alarm' LED on the unit will be lit. 4 2.4 Function Test Operating the test pushbutton simulates a sensor fault and de-energises the output relay, causes the audible alarm to sound continuously and turns on the amber 'fault' LED on the unit. It should be noted that the audible alarm cannot be muted either when the test pushbutton is being operated or when a sensor fault is present. 3. Installation The alarm unit is designed for four-screw wall mounting on a 117.5mm x 117.5mm square pitch. It is recommended that the unit is not mounted in a location where it is exposed to direct sunlight. All wiring must be in suitable cable for the application conditions. The installation must comply with the relevant regulations of the electrical supply authority concerned together with any other statutory requirements which may affect the complete installation. 4. 5 5. Probe Installation Pass the probe lead through the 1" BSP tank/cable gland to give the desired probe length and tighten the cable gland. Fit the probe assembly into the 1" BSP tank gland in the storage tank.
