2 Previously Funded Projects 1. Marietta Street and Centennial Olympic Park Drive Streetscape 2. Simpson Street and West Peachtree Street Streetscape 3. Fairlie-Poplar Streetscape (Walton and Nassau) All three projects eligible for stimulus funding from GDOT All three projects are shovel ready Final tasks are underway to secure notice to bid from GDOT All three projects expected to bid in 2009
3 Marietta Street-COP Drive Improved conditions Current conditions Marietta Street and Centennial Olympic Park Drive Streetscape Enhancements Project cost: $4.3 million Beautification and safety enhancement of sidewalks and intersections between Five Points and Centennial Olympic Park. Particular attention will be given to greening the corridor Design is complete. Construction is currently projected to begin 3rd quarter of 2009.
4 Simpson-West Peachtree Streets Improved conditions Current conditions Simpson Street and West Peachtree Street Streetscape Enhancements Project cost: $2.9 million Beautification and safety enhancement of sidewalks and intersections between Civic Center MARTA Station and Centennial Olympic Park Drive including new traffic signals Design and right-of-way acquisition is complete. Construction commencement is pending Georgia DOT authorization.
5 Fairlie-Poplar Improved conditions Current conditions Fairlie-Poplar Historic District Phase III Streetscape Project cost: $995,000 Beautification and safety enhancement of sidewalks and intersections to focus on Walton, Nassau and Spring Streets. Design is complete. Construction is currently projected to begin 3rd quarter of Funded by: Transportation Enhancement (TE) grant from GDOT and City of Atlanta Quality of Life funding.
6 New Funding Commitments for 2009 Goal: ensure the timely and cost effective delivery of visible results Approach: expand priority project identification to include multiple levels to address investment type Large scale projects suitable for leveraging and partnering Small scale projects suitable for direct ADID investment Immediate Impact: additional $1.5 million budgeted for shortterm, 100% ADID funded projects to be completed in 2009
7 Investment in Public Spaces Broad Street Plaza: physical improvements to support desirable activity in the plaza and accommodate new vending marketplace. Focus on planters, paving and lighting in Plaza Downtown Street Lights: replace and repair 50 missing and 34 broken fixtures throughout Downtown Fairlie-Poplar Planters: paint concrete, and iron fencing, install shade and sun varieties of landscaping, apply mulch to all planters and trees where needed Peachtree Street Tree Well Planters (International to Harris): In-ground tree well and above ground planters to eliminate need for police barricades and enhance landscaping
8 Investment in Mobility Enhancements Williams/Ivan Allen Intersection: turn lane reconfiguration, signal head replacements for split-phase operation, pavement re-striping and overhead signage to guide drivers to ease congestion at intersection Signalization Demonstration Project: signal system improvements (controllers, cabinets, signal heads, communications and re-timing) at 10 to 15 intersections within Westside TAD corridors West Peachtree Place Two-Way Conversion: signal, signage and striping improvements to convert to two-way traffic between Centennial Olympic Park Drive and West Peachtree Street Streetcar Planning: Engineering work to advance project and demonstrate readiness for application for stimulus funds. Includes design, financing, governance, advocacy and public involvement
9 Investment in Woodruff Park Hardscape Improvements: Repair missing and broken granite pavers. Replace cracked and missing seatwalls. Install anti skating devices. Recreation and Reading Room: First permanent building in the park will house reading room attendant, reading materials and recreation equipment. Plus planters to provide tree canopy and create an outdoor room Fountain Repairs and Water Recovery: Make fountains water ready by repairing pumps, filters & motors. First step toward capturing rain water for use in fountains and for irrigation purposes. Lighting Retrofit and Music Installation: Retrofit lights from high pressure sodium to metal halide. Bring technology into the park to play music.
