Transcription

1 At the last meeting, members got to discuss their primary likes and dislikes about the City Center Plan. After reviewing major elements of previous meetings, committee members jotted down things they liked most and least about the plan and placed them on the wall under the headings of Historic Downtown, Midtown, and Uptown. Then the notes of similar content were grouped together and discussed by the committee. These discussions lead to some very interesting incites. Unfortunately, we did not get finished so we need to pick-up where we left off. On the bright side, this also opens up the opportunity for all to add to your list and discuss at our February meeting. The following are the comments the committee generated at the January meeting.

2 HISTORIC DOWNTOWN Historic Downtown LIKES / EXCITED ABOUT Funky Urban theme like Austin Congress Street. Prominent Housing Expandability of Retail Tax Incentives Phillips Area (Complimentary Development) Implement some type of EXPERIMENTAL development on Phillips property for a SPARK Keeping the eclectic feel of Downtown Artisan Village / incubator (Phillips?) Like Belt Line Corridor (Village) Ag focus for Downtown is a HUGE draw for young professionals Character on tact Eclectic Vibe Entertainment venues (funky) Downtown Development focus on west side near new Toad Keep area Eclectic Urban Agriculture Neighborhood Acquire school property (old Maintenance facility) Explore the ways into Downtown Keep the funk! Historic downtown Road A Enhanced downtown entrance New Roadways Road A\ bond issue? Preserve Structures

3 HISTORIC DOWNTOWN Historic Downtown DISLIKES / CONCERNS Lack of Parking Regulations Yucky old Town farm Keep historic charm but gave boundaries to limit unappealing entities AG focus is a bit too broad. Possible not realistic Ag Development possibly too extreme Rundown neighborhoods On-street parking on belt line Parking on Belt line. On-street vs. off-street More emphasis on existing business upgrades Better / More tax incentives districts & private funding incentives Condemn existing eyesores & dilapidated buildings Aggressive zoning enforcement

4 MIDTOWN Midtown LIKES / EXCITED ABOUT Explore cost of Midtown Street connections and layout Identify Parameters of Plaza for possible bond issue Midtown Plaza Midtown Green Space following creek bed Train Station Development around the racetrack Plaza Campus on 1382 and Strauss Urban Residential Upscale feel Better specialized shops Green Space 24 Hour Fitness Roadway Midtown Plaza parking and public building on RR Track Park behind Include dog park component Open Space Trails / Bikeways Sustainable (Green) Round-a-bout Community focus (park / library) Park Behind Gov t Center Slowing Traffic on Uptown Blvd. Plaza Maximize green spaces / trees, shrubs, flowers to create people magnets. (Plan seems to do that) Improved traffic flow Hotel, Apt/condos Residential Components Explore the possibility of the race track with Cinemark (Begin dialog) Road in front to JC Penney I really like the Plaza!

5 MIDTOWN Midtown DISLIKES / CONCERNS No pedestrian path between Uptown and Midtown No real commitment to event space Midtown Oval Way how does it affect the Architecture and Pedestrian Flow of Theater Entertainment District needs more definition Culture and Church should be separated (Programing) Lack of Parking Regulations Belt Line onstreet parking Parking needs to available with easy in and out / no delays Parking needs to be evaluated Chocking down Belt Line may potentially cause some challenges Treatment of Belt Line is tricky and needs to be done well with a lot of thought focus on keeping the city clean otherwise will discourage developers & citizens Inventory businesses, etc. and pursue developers to fill specific gaps not hodgepodge. Control auto access Better Mass Transit access
