CHAPTER OVERVIEW Greenways, landsape dranage orrdors and dranage faltes reate a ontnuous pedestran landsape orrdor system throughout the Plan Area, prodng an alternate to tradtonal pedestran aess routes suh as street sdewalks. Ths reates a unque and dstnte element wthn the ommunty. These areas nlude greenways, as well as dranage areas suh as the Major Dranage Channel (Shed C Channel), Dranage Basns and Jont Use Park/Dranage Faltes. Greenways, as well as landsape dranage orrdors and faltes, are desgned to e an ntegral part of the ommunty, not ndependent elements wthn t. These areas prode permanent open spae, tral systems and extense landsape orrdors and pedestran onnetons. Together, these elements reate ommuntes that are ompat n sale and easly walkale, lnked y an extense network of multuse trals. Spefally wthn the dranage areas, a desgn emphass has een plaed on the dea of a safe and usale pedestran enronment, whh aentuates nature and the surroundng enronment. General Landsapng Standards The followng s a lst of general landsapng requrements for all Greenways, Dranage Corrdors and Dranage Faltes: 1. All Greenways shall e 0 wde mnmum, unless a arane to ths requrement s allowed y the Cty.. Ether low plasters wth splt ral fene, and/or park ollard shall e loated at the pathway entrane to all greenways, dranage orrdors and dranage faltes onnetng from a perpendular street as determned y the Cty.. Colored asphalt enhaned pang rosswalks shall e loated at spef street rossngs wth pathway onnetons, as determned y the Cty.. As determned y the Cty and CCSD, pathways shall e onstruted out of: Asphalt pang wth a wde deomposed grante shoulder on oth sdes () of the pathway. The shoulder shall e edged wth a redwood headeroard. Conrete pang wth a wde deomposed grante shoulder on one sde (1) of the pathway. Dependng on the ste s gradng, the shoulder shall e edged wth ether Cty of Elk Groe Type Cur or onrete mowstrp. Conrete pang (for mnor short onnetons only) All Greenway, Dranage Corrdors and Dranage Faltes pathway, shoulder, and shoulder edgng shall e reewed and approed y the Cty and CCSD.. Ste furnture and amentes shall nlude, ut not lmted to, enhes, trash reeptales, drnkng fountans, ke raks, dog waste statons, post & ale fenes, splt ral fenes, and nformatonal kosks.. Pedestran sale lghted ollards wth lamp defletors shall e loated throughout Greenways, Dranage Corrdors and Faltes. Lghted ollards shall e plaed along the pathway, and stuated to preent lght from shnng dretly nto adjaent land uses. Spang and foot-andle requrements shall e determned y the Eletral Engneer and approed y the Cty. 7. Where open ew fenng or open ew fenng wth low wall separates the greenway from any other land use, ommunty plasters shall e loated at the egnnng and termnus of open ew fenes, and any hange of fene dreton. Communty plasters at open ew fenes shall our +/- eery 100, or losest proxmty thereof. 4 GENERAL STANDARDS & REFERENCE ITEMS. Informatonal Kosks are loated throughout the Plan Area wthn greenways, landsape dranage orrdors and dranage faltes. Informatonal Kosk type and ontent shall e determned and approed y the Cty and CCSD. (Refer to Chapter ). Landsapng gradng and slopes shall not exeed :1 for turf areas and :1 for plantng areas (exept at Detenton Basn and Major Dranage Channel Sde Slopes). If Landsapng gradng or slopes exeed these ratons, a splt fae keystone retanng wall shall e requred. All retanng walls shall e reewed and approed y the Cty and CCSD. Steeper grades are permtted wthn the Detenton Basn and Major Dranage Channel Sde Slopes, howeer maxmum slopes must e reewed and approed y the Cty and CCSD. 1. The plantng desgn shall e sujet to the most urrent Cty of Elk Groe Model Water Effent Landsape Ordnane (MWELO). Turf n Greenways, Dranage Corrdors and Dranage Faltes s permtted as long as the requrements of the MWELO are met. 1. Plantngs n Greenways shall nlude shade trees n nformal plantngs, as well as turf, groundoer and eergreen shru massng along property lnes. Addtonally, nes shall e loated at -0 on enter spang along any ommunty walls. 1. Plantng outsde of dranage areas shall nlude shade trees n nformal plantngs, as well as turf, groundoer and eergreen shru massngs throughout the landsape area and along property lnes. The plant palette outsde the dranage areas shall e onsstent wth the landsape onept of the ommunty and as requred n the General Landsape Plant Palette. The dranage areas shall e planted wth aeptale trees, groundoer and grasses as requred n the Dranage Areas Plant Palette. 1. Grasses and groundoers wthn the Major Dranage Channel, Dranage Basn and Detenton Faltes shall e a seed mx, nstalled y hydroseed. Seed quantty, nludng pounds of seed per are, and the exat hydroseed method of nstallaton, shall e determned y the Cty other requred goernment agenes. 17. All grasses, nludng nate grasses, outsde of the dranage areas shall e ether 1 gallon ontaners, plugs, hydroseed or sod to e determned y the Cty. 18. When a partular sze plant s spefed aross large setons of greenway/dranage orrdor and faltes (.e. medum shru), the landsape arhtet shall use alternatng groupngs of plants from that spef seton of the General Landsape Plant Palette (refer to Chapter ) to ahee a plantng desgn that has dfferent genus and spees along the entre streetsape. Ths shall e done to preent a monolth plant palette extendng along the entre greenway/ dranage orrdor and faltes. 19. Seondary or aent trees loated wthn the streetsape landsape area (not medans) or greenways shall our n nformal groupngs of three or fe trees of the same spees, planted etween the sdewalk and adjaent land use property lne. Mxed massngs of flowerng trees and eergreen spees are enouraged. 0. Seondary or aent trees shall e a omnaton of deduous and eergreen trees for purposes of sreenng and reatng seasonal hange. A mnmum of 0% of the street trees and seondary or aent trees shall e eergreen spees. 1. All trees shall e 1 gallon mnmum, one-thrd of all trees shall e ox or larger.. All shrus shall e gallon mnmum. A layer of walk-on type ark mulh shall e loated n all planter areas around trees, shrus and groundoer wthn all greenways, dranage orrdors and dranage faltes. Bark mulh shall not e used on any dranage sde slopes and dranage low-flow areas.. All trees planted wthn 10 feet of a street, sdewalk, paed tral, walkway or plaza element shall e separated y a root arrer to preent damage to pul mproements. Ths root arrer must e nstalled at tme of plantng of the tree. (Refer to Chapter ). A mnmum dstane of 1 s requred etween the enter or a tree and all lght standards. 7.
