4 Efficiency 4 Lowering operating costs Recirculating air cooling devices (including split-air units) exclusively cool the air of the thermally loaded space and thus require the permanent and operating cost-intensive use of mechanical cooling. In contrast, our Slim Line devices use the freely available cooler outside air and thus reduce the runtime of the mechanical cooling system. In Central Europe, outside air temperatures rarely exceed the desired temperatures in rooms with high-temperature loads, such as data centers. Our Slim Line Compact air conditioning units use this outside air in order to reduce the operating hours of the refrigerating plant (in Germany to approx. 7 % of operating life, data according to DIN 4710, Frankfurt / Main, see Figure 1), and thus clearly reduce operating costs compared with circulating air-cooling units. In addition, it offers a performance control of supply- and return-air ventilators as a function of the temperature load and outside temperature. The histogram shown in Fig. 2 represents the distribution of hours/year per temperature. The temperature range, in which the mechanical cooling system is active, is marked in blue. The total of the compressor s power requirements and the regulated ventilators per hour and the temperature for the Slim Line Q15 (green), as well as a 15 kw recirculating air-cooling unit (violet) are also drawn. The Slim Line device s reduction in power consumption is clearly identifiable after deactivating the cooling compressor for an outside air temperature of below 22 C (71.6 F), while the recirculating air-cooling unit consumes a more or less constant power. The total power requirements resulting from the use of the mechanical and free cooling as well as operating of the two ventilators is entered in Figure 3 for the relevant temperature range (blue). The requirements of the recirculating air-cooling unit with identical cooling unit are drawn as well (red). 6 Operating modes 6 Cooling with outside air exclusively As long as the outside air is able to cool the server room according to your requirements, the Slim-Line device uses this free cooling without activating the mechanical cooling system. The supplied volume flow is reduced as much as possible depending on the room load. The cooler outside air is added to the indoor air to achieve the desired supply air temperature. Cooling with outside air and refrigerating plant The refrigerating plant is activated when the outside air alone no longer meets the requirements. The continuously adjustable exhaust ventilator ensures a balanced volume flow ratio. Cooling with recirculation and refrigerating plant In the case of high outside temperatures, the cooler indoor air is utilized. The exhaust air ventilator takes in the outside air and passes it to the exhaust air for recooling the capacitor. In order to ensure the capacitor recooling, the continuously adjustable exhaust air ventilator is able to boost a higher volume flow as the result of a speed increase.

7 7 Function and Control Optimal adaption to thermal conditions The Slim Line cooling devices are designed specifically for use under conditions with limited space and high thermal loads. The supply and return air in the area of the floor and ceiling respectively corresponds to the thermal flow behaviour of the air and thus guarantees maximum efficiency. The supply air can be distributed via double floor or ducts. Flexible Control Our Slim Line units can be parameterised via the operating display and through a web interface by means of any Internet-connected PC. Furthermore, redundancies according to the n + 1 principle can be established via the DDC of the Slim Line series. The required communication for the redundancy and the system switchover can be realised via a BUS line between both DDCs. 10 Our delivery program 10 Customized air handling units Due to a certified (TÜV Süd) construction software and decades of experience, HANSA is able to build highly individualized AHUs upon customer request for a broad range of applications. Catalogue Blue Line Compact ceiling units Units ready for operating with counter-current heat exchanger and DDC up to m 3 / h and 400 Pa external pressure for installation in suspended ceilings. Catalog Kompakt Line Left: Three AHUs with hygroscopic circulating heat exchangers and a total airflow of 290,000 m 3 / h have been designed for seamless integration into the wings of the former AWD headquarter. Compact floor-mounted appliances The P-series air conditioning units are ideal for use in confined spaces because they have a very small footprint, overhead duct connections and DDC.
