6 Just like the sun, radiant ceiling panels heat the space around them with the aid of thermal radiation. The irradiated surfaces (floors, room enclosing surfaces and objects) are heated by thermal radiation, as this permeates the air almost unhindered without being absorbed. The surface temperature of the irradiated enclosing surfaces exceeds room temperature by up to 3 K. The surfaces release the converted thermal energy into the space around them, thus heating the air. The effect is reversed with an irradiated cooling system. The ceiling panel has a lower temperature than its environment, which means that it can absorb the surplus thermal energy and transport it away from the space to be cooled. In times of continuously-rising energy prices and an ever-increasing scarcity of fossil fuel reserves, efficiency and energy saving become more and more important.
